saw this earlier today. My Wii doesnt come in till tomorrow, but is this true? I'm assuming it's probably like the recent 360 update which bricked quite a few consoles.

From what I've heard, it's just the nature of firmware updates no matter what the system. Something minute goes wrong, you have a brick. I don't know if we've heard of any CAGs having the problem.

Yea, kinda like flashing a DS. If you do it wrong, you get a bricked DS. So just pray nothing goes wrong when you're updating.

Just make sure you try updates within your warranty or you're screwed xD

I must have gotten a CS rep on a bad day then. My DS screen crapped out and had some kind of crack in the top display when I took it out of the charger one day (about 1-2 years ago, launch DS system). When I called CS they said my problem is not caused by a defective system according to their techs and was instead caused by physical trauma. Which was news to me because I played it before I went to bed, plugged in to charge, got up at 5 a.m. to go on vacation, took it out and put it in my DS carrying case, then turned it on in the car and had the problem. He said they would fix it, but it would be $50-$75. I was a little miffed, oh well.

After you setup the internet connection, it automatically tries to connect for the update.
After we updated ours, the controller stopped working. A reboot did nothing. Had to unplug the wii from the wall to fix the issue. Everything is fine now, just a heads up if you run into the same issue after the update

Naw, it glows blue after you shut down the machine and after it connects intermittently to WiiConnect24. If someone sends you a message/e-mail, it begins to glow blue.

firmware updates alwayse freak me out. I just hope they come out with a way to update via cd or whatnot. that would be best. maybe alocate memory never to be used unless the firmware isent found or is bad, that asks for a sd card or cd or somethign with the firmware upgrad or orginal or whatever. Online firmware updateing really sucks. It should really download the firmware first, then update and back up the firmware its over writeing, somplace. Oh well. I bet nintendo will fix it sometime. My update worked fine though.

I'd be nervous about a firmware update over an unreliable wireless connection. If the connection weakens and messed up the update, no more Wii. (in theory) :(

I finally got a Wireless router and updated my Wii, no probs.
The Wii Shop music makes me feel weird. It's classic QVC crap, which...I don't know, it creeps me out for some reason.
