The underside (or since its vertical, left side) of my Wii is really warm bordering on hot, should I be worried?

Mine is warm... not so much that I would call it hot, but it's warm.

It's warm. It's probably actually cooler when you're playing a game, since the power output is something like 17W, compared to 10W when in standby, but in standby the fan isn't on.

I noticed this with my Wii as well. If you're referring to it staying warm/hot when you're not using it, the problem is having WiiConnect24 on when in the Standby mode. I've played around with the settings and found that if you don't have the WiiConnect24 on during standby, it won't get warm at all. I leave my Wii this way. Not really a big deal to me if I don't get updates when I'm not playing. I'd rather have to manually update than have my Wii overheat.

Nice, my joke response would have been "only when you rub it".

Mine gets warm while in standby with Wiiconnect 24 on, so I've just been turning it off.
It doesn't get warm while playing since the fan runs.

Yeah I did the same.

I'm torn; I worry about WiiConnect 24 shortening the console's lifespan, but on the other hand, I like the idea of the constant connectivity, even if Nintendo's not done much with it yet.
I keep my Wii horizontal so that it'll fit in my TV stand, but I have a feeling this exacerbates the whole "Hot Wii" thing (man, I remember when my mom walked in on me as I exacerbated my hot wii--so humiliating), so it looks like I'll be moving it to beside the TV tonight. As an added bonus, I might shake the occasional error I've been having reading GC games once it goes vertical.
For those of you who have had your console on its side and upright, is it any cooler when it's vertical?
And maybe I'll disable WiiConnect24 until Nintendo actually starts doing something with it.

You can also just hold the power button on the Wii (doens't seem to work with the Remote) a few seconds and it will turn of and the light will show red.
Then it is off and not in standby or able to use Wiiconnect 24.
Slightly more convenient as then you can just put it in standby on nights/days when you know an update is coming or what not rather than having to get it manually or go turn the setting back on in the menu.
