Mooky made a Wii Sports DVD Cover (Ver.2.0!)

My girlfriend just got the Wii I bought her from Amazon, and of course, Wii Sports doesnt have a case. Now, I've seen one or two online, but they're such low quality and they print like shit... so after 2 1/2 hours... I present my version. Enjoy.

If you have any issues with it let me know, I didnt get a chance to print it yet and try it.

Ok, for my lunch break I cleaned up the cover a bit, and here's version 2.0. Thanks for the comments guys, you're keeping me when I need to be, on my toes.

Now I did what I can without an official Wii Font, but I think you'll be quite pleased.

1. I added some graphics on the back, to spruce it up a bit. Its some actions shots of Wii Sports in use.

2. I depixelated the whole cover due to scanning it, and upped the Saturation levels to make it pop a bit more.

3. I completely remade the upper right hand back side with new clean bkg shapes and I completely retyped the text.

4. I cleaned up the pixelation in the text on the front and side cover, and changed the Wii(tm) font color back to its original color.

5. Then ran a smart blur at a very low setting to kinda meche it all together.

Here is the final result. As you can probably see from the small picture alone, that quite a bit was tweeked.

Just to let everyone know, I still have the 50mb .psd file, and if it needs tweeking to fit in the case right, or seems off from the others... let me know, and I'll make the adjustments ASAP... AFAIK its good to go, but with printwork, you never know until its printed.

Nice work mookyjooky. But upon enlarging the image, it seems that you scanned the cover? Upon closer look, the color has a redish tint as well as the usual pixelated looking all the images.

The one I posted up is smooth and hi-res as well. But good job

I like the front. The back is a bit dull for my tastes though. I already printed one but I might have to do some mixing and matching with everyone's covers and print out a new one.

FYI, you can save that .jpg at 11 instead of 12 out of Photoshop. There is no discernable difference between the two when printed. It will also cut your file size in half, if not more. The file size at 11 will probably put you closer to a 3-3.5MB file if not less due to all the white space inherent in the Wii design.

11 is the standard quality in the DVD cover community. I've designed roughly 130 myself and printed out 100s and can attest to this. Just a helpful hint from a fellow designer. :)

Will do, tonight I'll work on the cover a bit, and smooth the colors out, it was a 2 1/2 job that ended at 2am, so I didnt do any real post work to it. I'll get to that.

Corvin, you're right about the back, I just decided to keep it that way, since I scanned the Cardboard CD case. I'm a big fan of trying to keep it as close as possible to the original design. But I'll spruce it up a bit and make a Ver. 2.0

you've got an older printer it seems, mines older too.. the new ones can print to the sides of the paper these days...

I use Epson A4 glossy paper that I buy from buy.com for all my covers, they look fantastic.

Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. 272x184mm is the Wii case size. Just need to resize it to that, set as landscape, and trim down the edges after printing.

I think the standard size for the dvd cover is 10.75" X 7.1875" or something in that range.

@ my job we can print on 11x17 paper so I made a word document, resize the paper margin to what it should be and pop the picture in. remember to put a border around the image so that you can know where to cut since part of the cover is white.

Before all blames go to me, I'm not the only one selling your cover. There are other sellers as well. So why not go after them instead of singling me out? There are people who dont have access to printers nor have the time. So I'm providing a service just like any other seller that is selling covers. Not once did I say that I made the covers.

I also emailed you stating that I would remove yours from the auction. And if you won my auction just to leave me negative feedback, then go right ahead.

If people are just going to keep on blaming me for something that I agreed to remove then I'll just keep doing what I'm doing if I'm just going to keep getting blamed.

Whoa, holy shit... I made my post last night, and removed the links, and just went home, worked out, and fell asleep at 10pm. I had no idea this would erupt into something like this. Thank you, so very much guys (and girls) for your support.

I knew legally there wasnt anything I could do, being that its Nintendo's stuff legally, and my only issue was that he was morally wrong. So I did what I could do, and took it down. I had no idea it would turn into this.

Anyways, you guys are awesome, and I'm really touched by this. I reported the others as well, but I really dont expect anything from this, and honestly, it doesnt bother me as much as a CAG doing it to another CAG.

Honestly, when I gave criticism, I never thought selling it. It was honest criticism. But after lots of people requested inserts because they didnt have access to printer or the time, I offered a service. Yes, I should of asked first. And I had a boat load of empty DVD cases that I couldnt get rid of.

BTW, even before these guys started ripping me a new one, I told you through email that I would remove it..so i was doing this on my own free will/reconasiance (sp). I could care less what people say on here.

No, I had cases in hand. I would never sell anything that I dont phyiscally have in stock. I ordered more cases but cancelled them. I was going to take my Wii cases from my own games to ship until Nintendo sent more. Thats when I would relist and put cases back onto my own games. Nintendo has been actually pretty quick with cases. When I called, the CS wasnt sure if she was able to cancel since it was in final stages of prep, but she was. If I had empty cases available, I would send you on free but I dont anymore.

All you had to do was ask to remove and I would of said OK without hesitation.

Sorry to disapoint anyone, but after iazybandit decided to profit off of a cover I spent 6+ hours creating (I retyped all the text for superior printing, recreated the cover from scratch and cleaned all the images and placed them, all while trying to keep close to the original design) then I went to eBay and saw others, as well.

I realized, that it was rediculous for me to make everyone else money. Thank you for your support, but I'm out of cover making for a while.

I'm really sad to see something like this happen to someone who's actually skilled. I never thought anything like this would happen on CAG.

If you order more than one item, they usually send them in a box. I know last time I ordered some Gamecube cases and DS cases I ordered 10 of each and both came boxed seperately.

It should already be sized to fit..the one I did at least. Just make sure to use legal sized paper (8.5 x14). If you use regular sized paper, it will get cut off due to margins.

Part of the problem here lies in the permanence of these message board posts. I'm willing to give iazy the benefit of the doubt. He clearly values the CAG community enough to return and remain active in spite of the vitriol continually spewed over his abhorrent mistake. Why would he even attempt to remain a member of this community unless he were truly penitent? It'd be easier to walk away and become a lurker. I really appreciate all the support guys, but lets just let the whole thing go and see where it goes from here.

Iazy did take it down, and my real issue with him was him not asking and him giving me shit after I mentioned it. He's since apologized and we can let this go. I've since realized that I should never put anything on the net I would be upset seeing on eBay. So I've reposted the cover.
