Alright this is my problem. I ordered DBZ Tenkaichi 2 from buy.com for 29.99. (google checkout). It will come in a week but i can't wait that long. Over this thanksgiving break i actually have the weekend off without homework, so i really want to play it now. Since i live like a block away from target, i am thinking about going over there and buy Tenkaichi 2 for $40. I plan to save the receipt and once my shipment from buy.com comes i will just return that one (buy.com's new tenkaichi 2) to target and get my $40 back. So overall i will get the game a week early. Will this work? And what is targets reutrn policy on unopened new games? Also, does each game have their own serial number? Because im sure they have to scan the game during returns, and possibily the numbers wont match and they will not accept it. What do you guys/gals think?

no problem if you have the receipt and the item is unopened.

Positive. You have the same item... how would they know if you bought it somewhere else? Think about it, you arent returning a game without a receipt or anything.

I can confirm as well you can do this. Also, if you pay by credit card, you don't even need the receipt, just tell them you paid with that credit card, they will swipe it, and thats it.

Hold the store - many (if not most) stores add thier own bar code to the outside of the package. If that is missing, you will have problems.

this can be sketchy it has been for me in the past because the UPC that buy.com uses on the game will be different from the UPC target uses, ifyour younger i'd have an adult do it for you... the older the better (i know you may be early 20's what not, but if your 45 yr old mother does it they won't question her)... it took my target about 20 min to decide to take a game back that i did this w/ and it was the last time i tried.

What do you mean by "targets upc"? do they add there own barcode as in their own sticker? If it helps, the lady at my target scaned the barcode that was originally on the game box.

You'll be fine. I've done it many of times myself.

I do this sort of move all the time (I work there so I sort of bend the rules sometimes ;) ).
You'll be fine, especially with a receipt.

I have done this during the Buy 2 get one free on touch generation games at Best Buy with Target before. Prior the week before, me and my friend but a copy of brain age a piece at target. The next week BB has the b2g1 deal so i get elite beat agents and 2 copies of brain age. I walk over to target with old receipt in hand, and return the 2 brain ages for $40 cash back. So yes Op, it will work.

question- I have this unopened game I got from bestbuy (a cheaper price) but I wanna return it to target (for more dough) saying it's a gift and I don't have a receipt... will it work for like a store credit or something?

First off, you're an idiot and that is fraud.
Second, Target will only allow you to exchange it for another game.

For this game I'm pretty sure it'll work, but FYI there are certain products that work in the US, and when ordering online, they send you the Canadian version, which has a different bar code.
When I tried this it was for a gamecube Action Replay. I know some DVD's are also Canadian and not US.
In any case, when you get the buy.com game, compare the bar codes to the one you got at Target. If they match (which I'm pretty sure they will), you're good to go.

Are you certain? The UPC on the back of a video game is the same for every single game. Unless your talking about a Target specific deal (like Kmart's Mario Party WaveBird combos) or video game hardware, the barcodes are always the same.
