--------------------------------------------------

I want to congratulate the CAG community on this awesome achievement. I never would have guessed we would have smashed our goal and topped $10,000. I am really so proud of all you who contributed.

A big thanks to Play-Asia.com (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-ci2.html) who were so easy to work with!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the help of Play-Asia.com (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-ci2.html), I am pleased to announce this year's Child's Play Charity (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/) fundraiser. A $5 donation will purchase an entry into a raffle for a chance at winning the grand prize, a $1,000 credit to Play-Asia's online store.

Raffle entries are sold through PayPal and there is no limit to the number of entries one may purchase. A single winner will be chosen at random and obviously, the more entries one purchases, the greater their odds of winning. 100% of the money raised will go directly to Child's Play. We are even covering the PayPal fees.

On December 19 at 12:01AM PST, no more entries will be accepted and the winner will be announced soon after.

UPDATE: Thanks to the CAG community, we have some additional prizes for 8 runner ups. marten is donating prizes #1-6, Wolve22 is donating prizes #7 & 8, kjauburn is donating #9 & 10, youruglyclone #11

Yes, but now you get entered into a raffle to win a $1,000 Play-Asia credit. The more raffles you buy, the better your chance of winning.

This year we are using PayPal because Amazon was a pain in the ass when it comes to collecting over $500 or so.

It's definitely towards a good cause, so I'll see if I can scrounge up any money regardless (have to pay rent though :P). However, I was wondering if anybody could tell me whether http://www.play-asia.com is a sitethat offers only Japanes games/ systems, or US games/ systems? I like RPGs and my Japanese is a little rusty :P

They are primarily Japanese games but they do offer some US things as well.

Very awesome site, I've used them more times than I can count.

yeah I mean the more prizes the more likely people will enter.

Plus I don't think the average CAG is very big on import gaming so giving one person $1,000 might be a little excessive.

With a smaller number at least they can get region free 360 games or something and not be left with a ton of money and not know what to spend it on.

But hey, if someone wins the $1,000 and wants to sell me import games for cheap let me know ;)

That's an excellent question, how much was raised last year?

PS For Cheapy - if we were to donate a significant amount of money, is there some receipt that we can get to use for our taxes for the donation? I know that I can get the same thing by donating directly to the charity, but if things work out correctly, I'd like to throw my money in with other CAG's.

Also, a CAG has contacted me about providing runner-up prizes for the raffle. Maybe some other CAGs want to donate stuff too.

I was thinking about asking the same thing. Unless you feel setting up ebay auctions for child's play would be a better way to go. If we are going to donate items as runner-up prizes how would you suggest going about it. Should we notify you or do you want to select a point person? Also should the CAG honor system be used to send out runner up prizes or do you want to select a point person to receive the runner-up prizes.

I know I don't have anything huge, but I have a few things I would donate. Picked up a matted print of chakan the forever man with a original chalk drawing on the matting this summer with child's play in mind. The print and chalk drawing are done by the creator of Chakan Robert Kraus. Yeah I know its not exactly a rare gem, but its unique and I am sure there are a few Sega Fan boys out there.

Edit: I don't have a problem picking up a new game as a runner up prize with my GR store credit I built up, thanks in part to fellow CAG's. No promises on what it is because of selection, but I figure Zelda, Gears of War, or Rainbow Six Las Vegas sound good. On the other hand if there are other CAG's with GR credit they wish to burn let me know and we could build upon the $60 something in credit I have for a DS Lite.

Something like a DS (or even better, a Wii) would be an absolutely awesome runner up prize. I'm glad this is doing well regardless, and it's great to know that it's already raised enough to break even. What was last years rake Cheapy? It'd be a good bench mark to try and top every season.

For anyone who is ?ing doing this I can tell you the cause is more than worthy. My 2 year old boy was diagnosed with leukemia about 3 weeks ago and we spent 2 weeks straight in the hospital in Kansas City called Children’s Mercy. Thanks to this fine org my little guy still got to play Marvel UA on the 360, because Childs Play had setup them up with both a 360 and the game at the hospital hooked up to an LCD and could be wheeled into the room when he wanted to play. So again if you have doubts I hope this is proof that it goes to where it should go, Kids who really need it

A video game gives them something to do instead of listening to a machines beeping, and local channels on a shitty tv.

Well, I'm in for another $20. I would have thrown some in earlier, but I haven't been home all week.

I'll probably give $20 every week until the end. As someone who was once in a children's hospital for an extended stay, anything that can help does. The PlayAsia raffle is cool, but this is such a good cause that the raffle is in the background.

$2850 in a week is very nice - and unless there is a major slow down, you should make your goal and then some!

Nice job, Cheapy!

Hello,

I put in 4 tickets ($20.00 usd) - wish I could do more, but I'm living in China for a year so US money is short, as I'm being paid in Yuan.

I'll re-evaluate my funds in my bank account back home to see if I can send more. I've donated every year now, and I'm always pleased to do so.

I know it can be a lot of work, even more so from a different country, so I really appreciate all the hard work that everyone who is involved puts into it. I may not be a heavy poster, but I sure do visit this site multiple times per day, and have been since the early days.

Thanks again, and looking forward to going back home to Texas in 9 months.

Hey everyone,

Since Cheapy decided to nix the eBay route becuase of the excessive skim, I've been sending out the following message to my buyers on eBay after I have shipped their items.

Hello again. Your item was posted at 8:30 am this morning. USPS confirmation# xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx.

Thank you again for your bid. As a result of this auction, I have made a contribution of $xx% of my profit to Child's Play, a charity that purchases videogames, toys, and books for children's hospitals accross north America.

I learned about this charity from Cheapassgamer.com who is holding a charity raffle for every donation given through their website. You can even buy specific items through Amazon.com and ship them directly to the charity, or just visit Childsplaycharity.org for more info. It's really a great cause. Thanks for reading, and happy holidays!

You aren't allowed to mention charities or websites in your lisings, but nothing prevents you from sending a friendly reminder like this to a buyer to let him know his items have shipped. Give it a try. Not only could we draw more people into CAG, but they may decide to make donations as well.

You probablyy use this rational to continue playing the lottery too, don't you?

With 10 prizes, your odds are not approximately 1:100.

Let me explain further. The odds of winning the first prize (with 1000 entrants) would be 1 in 1000. Assuming that no one entry can win twice, the second prize would be 1 in 999. The third would be 1 in 998...etc.

The way that you state this (as 1:100), is not accurate. But that's okay, I plan on getting my donation in soon to help skew those odds.

OK--I'm in. I saw how much the other cheap-asses had gotten together, and decided to get off my own cheap ass and pony up.

One thing to think about guys--remember, it's nice to have the prizes around, but it's really not about all of that. It's about the cause. If you want to buy a lottery ticket and get rich, buy a lottery ticket. If you want to help a sick kid have a little fun, send Cheapie a few bucks.

This isn't an analytical decision, it's an emotional appeal. Dig deep--remember what the holiday season is all about. Pitch in a couple of bucks.

I'm in, plus if it's not too late, I'd like to offer up another runner up prize, a year of free rentals from hollywood video. 5 dvds or games a month for a year. It's the least that I can do. Great cause, keep donating people!!!

In for a ticket. With all the money I spend selfishly on games, it's the very least I can do. Good to see so many people supporting the cause.

Donated a bunch more. Third time's the charm, and even if I don't win squat, I'll be glad to have put some of my extra cash toward a good cause. It'll be so ironic when a site called Cheapassgamer ends up donating about 10 thousand dollars for charity.

CAGS UNITE!

Every time I hear about kidney selling I think of Dr Venture getting robbed of both of his kidneys and having to hook himself up to Helper. ohhhhhh good times watching Venture Brothers....good times....

Actually, I opened yours ;)

This is one I picked up way back when Outpost got their small shipment in, and I was lucky enough to call them and snag one.
