Well, I think the midwest is on a fault line, so it's not unreasonable for earthquakes to happen, but they're few and far between.

The Midwest actually has a huge fault line it's just not very active.
The geological survey said the three-second quake happened at a depth of 3.1 miles in a geologic structure associated with the Sandwich Fault Zone. It was not connected with the New Madrid Fault farther south, which has been responsible for the Midwest's most serious earthquakes.

The midwest actually has a fair amount of earthquakes, they're just almost all unnoticeable. I remember having 3 or 4 decent ones here in Ohio.

A few years ago we had a minor one up near Plattsburg, NY (near Lake Champlain). Since most of New England is underlain by granite, the tremors were felt all the way up into Canada, down to NYC, throughout most of Massachusetts and I believe over into Maine. I think it was actually considered an after-shock of a much larger earthquake that occured many many years ago.

Thats odd. I've never heard of an earthquake in the Chicago area.

The midwest has nothing on California when it comes to Earthquakes. Last one I remember was a few years back when I was at a Sharks game. I thought people were kicking my seat, but it was the earthquake...
Also, my dad was at the A's game during the 89 quake...

You're asking to get your usertitle changed to "forever n00b" by Defender. Just a heads up. ;)
I didn't hear of this earthwuake either. However, at a 4.1, it's not TOO big of a deal.

Yeah and California has nothing on the midwest when it comes to other natural disasters such as tornados. California might have the irregular big earthquake, but tornados tear our asses up all the time. And neither have anything on the south east and their hurricanes. Those things suck.
