Asking this question I mean what product would you buy and NOT be a cheapass or try not to be?
Me I'm trying to go completely Organic and I'm NOT being cheap in some of the product I buy because I know that quality goes along with it.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I like good quality pens that are sturdy enough to never leak (I tend to press hard when I'm taking notes.)

I was pretty much organic for a while aside from some comfort foods, but definitely can't afford that anymore. The meat prices are freaking ridiculous. They should change Whole Foods' name to "Wallet Rape." I'm back in school now, so I'm back to eating whatever soup is on sale for a given week :)

I agree on toilet paper. When you have a sensitive stomach, you can't skimp on it.

Another thing is most PC parts. For example, on price watch you can get a 500W power supply for 16 bucks shipped, but its a total piece of shit. I went and blew 80 bucks on a 500W CompUSA brand a few nights ago...

Toilet paper. Cause cheap toilet paper really does suckI don't know. I kind of like the institutional precisions of Scot single-ply.

I like good quality pens that are sturdy enough to never leak (I tend to press hard when I'm taking notes.)I like quality pens, too, but I've gone through tons that bleed too much or smear or don't write smoothly. Honestly, the best thing I've used so far is Papermate Flair felt-tips. One of my professors gasses on about their design often and he was right, they really are a triumph of form and function. I just wish they were waterproof.

Toilet Paper, Liquor, Shoes, Shirts, and some food items. For example cheap cheese taste likes ass, As does cheap Whisky. Cheap shoes make your feet hurt, and Cheap Shirts fall apart in the washer.

This is very true as well. I bought a 550watt power supply 6 months ago for $25. It doesn't work anymore. I just purchased a ultra x2 modular for $64 after mir.

Well, I do skimp on liquor. Bought a half gallon of Rich and Rare canadian whiskey for 14 bucks earlier (was on sale to boot). I had gotten a fifth a while back and it was pretty damn good and smooth. When it comes to liquore I kinda don't. Can't really be thrifty when you have a hankering for some ice cold jager...

Since you're in college have you thought of going a cheaper way for food than even including meat? Going Vegan or Vegetarian? I bet I could even show you some Organic prices for Quinoa, Pinto beans, Flour, etc that would be affordable. I mean these all from scratch and I bet you could have a healthy diet as well as having money to spare, no joke.

Earrings. I have very sensitive ears and will pay good money for earrings that don't cause metal allergies. I also agree with previous posters -- pens, clothes (especially shirts and jeans), toilet paper. I'm also highly unlikely to buy an off-brand major appliance.

I've just given up on earrings because of this. I've also given up on contacts too because of my sensitive eyes.

Yeah, I have the same problem with my contacts. 90% of the time I just wear my glasses, it's less of a hassle and I don't have those raccoon-like allergy shiners under each eye.

I was vegetarian for a while. Had to go back to meat since I was working on an organic farm and the work was too taxing :)

You bring up a good point about raw foods. I fear the time it takes to prepare, I guess.

I won't go cheap on totino's pizza. Yeah, I know they're already only $1, but I tried the HEB brand totino's before and it tasted like cardboard.

Most alcoholic beverages - beer is sometimes the exception

PC components - especially heavily used items such as your mouse and keyboard

Toilet Paper - this should be common sense

Watches - in my experience anything under $60 or so generally isn't worth a damn

WOW! I couldn't agree more on the major appliances bit. I'd even go so far as to go entirely commercial.
I want to go Zojirushi when I get a Rice Cooker and convince them, with a little extra money, to make sure the entire interior, or at least the part containing the rice is metal or polycarbonate.
I agree it's daunting Apossum but for beans all you really do is have an empty pot or container, fill it with at least 2-3 cups water compared to 1 cup of beans and just wait overnight and then cook at lunch, breakfast or whatever. All you do is prepare ahead of time and that's one example. Quinoa would probably take about 20 minutes to cook after placing in a pot full of boiling water and it contains a complete protein so it's nice to being able to switch up over Soy.
In respect to Organic I've managed to at least get Broccoli for like $1.24 a lb. or a bit lower.

after reading most of Fast Food Nation tonight, I might have to consider going back to my hippy eating habits. I mean, I could handle the Jungle, since it was fiction and written almost 100 years ago, but man....

speaking of Zojirushi, my Mr. Bento just doesn't get any love these days...

"The Jungle" is the biggest reason why we have safer food today. The government stepped in after the book was published, and gained famed. One thing we as a country need to remember is that not matter how bad our food is. Its 50 times better then a lot of places in the world.

TBW hit the nail with his head. Never go cheap on condoms. Saves you money in the long run!

Toilet paper gets a good and solid second place.

Third: Bullets. Shooting that cheap shit is no fun.

check out fast food nation, some of the descriptions of meat packing plants are not too far off from The Jungle (which was exaagerated in a lot of ways.)

not saying we aren't better off than a lot of people, but the whole set up is precarious.

Like most people have said..

1) Toiler Paper - yes ..common sense
2) PC components - specially Power Supply, MoBo and Hard drive.. be cheap and you will regret it..
3) Condoms - yeah..I use Crown skinless 100pcs for $25, thinnest condom ive used and no breaks yet.. awesome protection with great sex is priceless, you dont feel shit with the free kind..

Some more stuff im not cheap:
~Green Tea : buy the cheap ones and they taste like sand, most of the are stuck in the warehouses for months
~Car Tires : you do want to live longer right??

Toilet paper, I like a clean ass.

Condoms, I don't want kids yet.

Dates, I'm not going to take a girl to taco bell. Although, homemade dinner + DVD is a lot cheaper than fancy restaraunt + $17 worth of movie tickets, but I do not consider that cheap. I call it romantic and get away with it.

I don't know if I'd say I don't compromise at all, but I don't skimp much when it comes to groceries. I certainly buy house (generic) brand stuff, but only for things that I feel the house brand is nearly as good if not better than the name.

For example just today I decided to switch to Folgers Columbian Supreme coffee vs. getting the 'gourmet' stuff at the front that you grind when you buy. About half the cost and seemed just as good to my (probably not terribly discerning) pallet. Next time I'll probably try the house brand (Wegmans) as it's about a buck cheaper. Also get the house butter vs. Land O Lakes, etc.

But then I often stop at Panera on the way home and pick up a loaf of their sourdough bread (about $3) vs. buying a $1-2 loaf of Stroeman's at the market. It's just a lot better. And I have to have real Cheerios, haven't found a generic that measures up.

I do buy cheap TP. Get a metric ton of it at Costco for dirt cheap. (The Kirkland Signature brand.) To really get your ass clean you can't just use dry paper anyway IMO. (May have been too much info a la javeryh there...)
