View Full Version : 360 the same as the PS2?
I found this very interesting...basically without HD graphics and LIVE the 360 is a PS2 with a smaller game library according to an indian reviewer. I guess when you have these things you don't realize what you could be missing. I guess the graphics didn't wow them either.

Difference between Xbox 360 & PS2 not obvious to Indian reviewer

A bleak console review has trickled out of India, where Xbox 360 made its debut just over a month ago. "[After] spending hours with [Xbox 360], the big difference between this machine and those in the market today, particularly, Sony's PlayStation 2, were not obvious," writes Raghuveer Malik of Rediff.
In India, HD displays have yet to penetrate the consumer market and Xbox Live is still a pipe dream. Remove what must be considered Xbox 360's two strongest selling points (HD gaming and Xbox Live) and really, what is the difference between Microsoft's console and PS2?
Now consider the unattractive price tag, relatively few software options, and lack of "support" from the pirating community; it's obvious why "[hardly] anyone was trying out the lonely, shop-soiled demo piece." India's games market is predicted to explode in the coming years, but Microsoft appears unable to gain any ground over the well-established PlayStation brand.

Looking at it that way, isn't every system a PS2 with a smaller library?

I wasn't looking for a flame war. I thought it was pretty funny. It just goes to show you that without a few elements a gaming system is a gaming system. I think I'm going with a 360 over a PS3 this gen.

Aren't all gaming systems just pong cabinets with no TV, different controllers, better graphics, and multiple games?

I think he's telling the truth. If you can't take advantage of HD gaming and Xbox Live, there just isn't much reason to own a 360.

I just realized that myself. The 360 is the PS2 only without Pirating and HiDef display it is a PS2. Personally I could care less seeing how the GCN proves that you don't need HiDef to have great graphics.
Also who is the moron trying to market in India?
I mean India along with China buying a games system is like me giving drugs to a Hippie. They don't really need it.

If I was poor and couldn't afford a 360 I wouldn't want one either.

Um pirating does exist with X360. In fact you can even go on live.

Exactly.
Except for the great games. Those are just a bit of a factor.

Isn't the ps2 just a NES with a smaller game library and a 'fancier' controller?

X-Box live is not pirating. That is nothing. Can run OSes and play imports?
Can you play NES. MAME. SNES. Gen, and others?
Copying games and backing them up?
MOD Chips?

It is a drop in the bucket compared to what happens with PS2 software. Thus far Microsoft's design has made it far, far less convenient to pirate X360 games. By comparison, there are open stall markets in much of Asia, including India, where copies are openly sold for miniscule prices. $100 worth of the local currency will buy you just about enough PS2 software to keep you busy playing for a year.
That the reviewer holds this up as a virtue for the PS2 suggest that maybe it isn't worth trying to open up the Indian market despite the growth of their middle class.

cept for the great games. Those are just a bit of a factor. There aren't many great games on 360 yet. IMO, the original Xbox was better when it was out for a year (with games like Blinx, Gun Valkyrie, Quantum Redshift, etc.).

What size sdtvs were all you guys using that say that without HD the 360 is worthless? I've seen it on a few boards and I disagree completely. The difference between ps2 and xbox1 and 360 is enormous on a large sdtv, and outside of Dead Rising's text there is no issue with using it on a non hdtv.

India will be an important market eventually, but right now the Xbox 360 will fail there. Let them stick to their cell phone games for now.

In China you can easily buy backup X360 games for a few bucks. Sure they are more expensive than PS2 backups due to it being on DL disc, but still very cheap. Modding is also easy too. Even downloading and burning games isnt that hard to do.

I mean you can run backups on Xbox Live with the X360.
