Is there a way to change the font color?

Like maybe dark blue or red to show up against lighter background pictures.

You have to go to settings and click themes. Even though their're 6 themes which ever one you choose they each have their own lettering text so that should help you with the text problem. Just make sure you apply the theme before you apply your background picture , otherwise the theme will put their default background picture.
