You can now put your Wii Code under your XBL name (if you have one of course)
I guess this was just added.
I haven't seen many people at all with it, so I figured I'd try and spread the word.
That's all :)

Does anyone know how the Wii number is actually going to be used? Is it going to work like XBL so you have one ID for all online games?

Well to say it'll work *like* XBL would probably be misleading since friending people isn't exactly as easy as it is on XBL. But yeah, one system-based wii code seems like it'll be the key, rather than multiple game-based codes like on the DS.
Good job picking up on the wii code addition, Lilboo, and of course props to CheapyD for staying on top of things!

This is great. Obviously having a number instead of a gamertag isn't as convenient, but I was worried that we'd have to use those DS friend codes.

How do Nintendo expect people to remember/use a 16 digit number?? Insane.

Not that I doubt you guys, but does anyone have a link to where Nintendo confirms that the Wii number will be used for all online games and messaging?

Do you remember the phone number of everyone who is in your cell phone? I don't even know my fiancee's number. I put the number in once, and forever after I reference it by name, just as I will enter someone's Wii code in once and use the name from then on. In one way it's better than gamertags: I can be botticus instead of b0tt1cus9773.

I guess it's pretty nice. My only problem is you won't have any idea if someone had added you unless they inform you. But atleast it isn't as bad as the DS's friend codes.

Does anyone know Nintendo's reasoning for having a ridiculous 16-digit number versus just a online nickname? Like...a real reason, not an excuse.

The same reason credit card companies use 16 digit numbers and the same reason license plates don't use people's names. 16 digits allows them to sell an insanely large number of consoles and never run out of numbers to assign to new console owners, as such it insures that every console is unique, which is also important to them, being that virtual console titles are tied to that particular machine.
If they used handles like Xbox Live, then people are likely going to have to add funky characters to or spell their handles with strange characters to get the name they wanted, as Botticus pointed out.

Well, you don't really have to remember it, as once you enter someone's number and they enter yours, you're done. So in that sense it's much less hassle than the DS way of doing things, where each game requires a new 16 digit code. But yes, it's much more cumbersome than XBL or instant messaging.
