A year after Enchanted Arms (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3143731) was released for the Xbox 360 in Japan, From Software is releasing the game for the PlayStation 3. But is the new version worth the wait?
From Software is promising a large scale improvement in many areas. Most noticeable of which will be the improved graphics--textures are being beefed up to narrow the gap between the movie scenes and the in-game graphics, providing a more seamless experience. The story is also receiving several new episodes, and a large number of conversational scenes will be changed into full demo scenes. Multiple character poses are being added for existing conversations and new modelling data is being created to add further drama to the characters' performances.
On the gameplay side, a large number of new golems will be added, and the battle system is being improved with some tweaks here and there. The theme music for the opening and ending movies is being recreated, this time by an artist called "mink", and background music within the game is also being rewritten.
The PlayStation 3 release of Enchanted Arms is scheduled for release in Japan on January 25 for 8190 yen.

Ubisoft have announced that the bilingual (http://www.ubi.com/US/News/Info.aspx?nId=4354) PS3 port of Enchanted Arms will be released in North America this March. When it landed "exclusively" on the Xbox 360 last year, From Software's first-to-an-empty-market initiative ticked just about every box on the official list of Japanese RPG requirements. Goofy protagonist with a hazy memory and an untapped power? Check. An ancient evil unleashed within the opening moments of the game, completely wiping out the hero's beloved town? Check. A surly princess who refuses to act like a princess? Check. A flamboyantly gay stereotype and an army of sentient pizzas? Ch -- wait, that doesn't seem to be on here.
Shinier saxophones? Sorry, couldn't resist...

LOL! That's the sort of thing I was hopping for when I saw this thread.
I'll at least rent this (once I get my PS3!) It sounded kind of wacky.

Being improved? Are they throwing the whole game out and starting over? Cause that's a start.

Also LOL. That's what I'm kind of figuring about it. The wacky saxaphonyness means I'll probably give it a rental though.

Quick bump for the new release date for those interested.

Heh, I take it this game is really bad. Thanks for the heads up though Tanuki.
I thought it was a pretty solid, albeit by-the-numbers, RPG. The battle system was certainly pretty cool and strategic. I'd say if you're an RPG fan it's at least worth a rental.

I actually enjoyed this game. However I have no intentions of spending $60 for a slightly better 360 port.

I thought the game was decent, although there are better RPGs out there. I'm going to get rid of my 360 version (since I never beat it) and buy it for PS3. My 360 console sounding so freaking loud distracts me whenever I tried playing it (luckily my PS3 is quiet). I really want Japanese voices too.

And another PS3 title continues on the "2little2late express" to the bargain bin.

I love how when something that was a PS3 exclusive appears on the 360 people say it shows how the PS3 is dying, and when a 360 exclusive appears on the PS3... people say it shows how the PS3 is dying. Hmm...

Yep, that's right, cause Enchanted Arms is equally as popular as the Virtua Fighter franchise
I enjoy(ed) Enchanted Arms, but I don't see this becoming a hit on the PS3.

I enjoy(ed) Enchanted Arms, but I don't see this becoming a hit on the PS3.In the U.S. it won't, but Japan is another story. The game only sold 20k on the 360 in Japan. Also, there happens to be almost 2X more PS3 consoles in Japan than 360 consoles (And PS3 lacks appealing games to the Japanese now too and it's selling better), so I'm assuming it will do better on PS3 (Plus PS3 continues to outsell 360 in Japan by 3-4 times). That's part of the reason the game is being ported to PS3, due to horrid sales in Japan (although better than Far East of Eden Ziria, which sold 6k copies). Also, the developers wanted to add a lot of HD CG cinemas, but couldn't because the game would require several disc. A blu-ray disc allows the developers to do what they originally wanted to.
I love how when something that was a PS3 exclusive appears on the 360 people say it shows how the PS3 is dying, and when a 360 exclusive appears on the PS3... people say it shows how the PS3 is dying. Hmm...Yeah, tell me about it. Even for games that probably won't be AAA (like Bladestorm, Fatal Inertia, etc.), people acted like OMG, PS3 is dying. Seriously, I can't tell you how much it sickens me. Personally, I do like all consoles, but the only reason I get so defensive over PS3 is because I get tired of hearing people bash it (especially from those who don't own one, and will probably never buy one).

No, all I'm saying is that the PS3 seems to get negativity no matter what, and I don't really think that's warranted.

According to IGN, they are also recording a completely new English language track for it, which will (hopefully) be a big improvement.
The game really wasn't bad at all on the 360. I'd say it was a b-level RPG, certainly not in the top rung, but still a very solid & fun game. The improvements sound pretty substantial - I traded my 360 version off after I beat it, so I'll probably pick this one up. Not at launch, of course - not going to spend $60 on a game I've already finished - but after some price drops. ;)

A 1 Year delay...for what?In the case of the U.S., the delay is actually only 7 months, since Enchanted Arms came out in August in the U.S. Still, that's better than the amount of time Xbox fans had to wait last generation for some Capcom fighters, Onimusha, and others.

I'm lookin forward to the release =D. I just choose to ignore the negative comments on the PS3 cuz I've heard it all before. It's not like they'll shut up soon so we can just ignore em ^^b!
I like all the consoles, they all have pros and cons. The one that should have done better IMO is the dreamcast. They still release games on it in Japan! =/

Selective memory? The 360 had the same thing happen to it before and after its launch. Hell even the Wii had a little bit of negativity with the flying Wiimotes.

You do realize almost all of those are BS dates, right? EB/GS add generic dates to most titles coming soon. While there may be 1 or 2 games that actually arrive, not all of them will.

Well, I'll admit I wasn't as active in reading the forums and gaming sites when the 360 came out. I do recall talk about the 360 freezing up and overheating and whatnot, but I don't remember there being so many people who were positively rejoicing in the idea of MS's console failing.

The comments made about MS were rough (especially at the Gamespot War Room). People would say the Xbox has no good games, filled with too many PS2 ports, going all broadband was a bad idea (due to too many 56k people), and so on. Now, the same is happening to Sony. :(

The comparisons to the dreamcast and how it would be dead just as fast. Those were huge.

I liked the battles myself because they reminded me of BoF:DQ. Oh though I will say past that the game was painfully linear which I don't like in the least.

Having the option to play the game (1 year later, 2 years, or whatever) is always better than no option. If it flops then it's Ubisoft's problem, not you or me. I'm sure 360 owners would like to have the option to play Metal Gear, 1-2 years later regardless. Most would probably wait, same thing applies here. Makes no difference whether you think the game is in the same league with Metal Gear or not, RPG fans like myself will be picking up Enchanted Arms.
Also glad PS3 is getting Oblivion, a year later or not. Gamestop had Two Worlds listed for PS3 at one point, that might mean PS3 will get it too. Again having the option is better than no option. Only RPG's 360 almost has left is Microsoft published games like Mass Effect and Blue Dragon. Sony will have their own share of published games like White Knight and Monster Kingdom.
I'm getting a PS3 because in the long run I expect to see niche Japanese games only show up on it and 360 wouldn't ever see the game ported. If I'm wrong so be it, but PS3 getting Enchanted Arms, Oblivion, etc. makes it easier for me to stick with one console.

Exactly why I got a PS3. I want Oblivion so bad I was gonna buy a 360 but there wasn't anything else I had to have and I never played my xbox. I just wished it would have come out whe it was supposed to? Why is it taking till the end of Feb anyway? I know they were improving the blending of of the horizon but that doesn't seem like that big a deal (and knights of the nine is already out on 360 and PC so it can't be that)

It's not that long a wait. Remember it's a HUGE game, with really cutting edge technology. And they seem to be doing a great job brining it to the Playstation 3 (ie better graphics than the 360 version) which means they're having to really dig into the hardware, versus just throwing everything on the main CPU and calling it a day.
I'm glad they seem to be doing it right!
EA is a solid game and any one wanting a next gen visual JRPG and don't have a 360 preorder this now. Don't listen to the haters this game is not a 10/10 by any means but it is a solid 8/10.

How can you say that with a straight face? I'm not saying I hate the game by any means but the fact they overlooked a critical error which is make NO game as linear as FFX.

Massive bump as the game just dropped to $19.99.

Nice catch! I have to admit it's kind of tempting to get a next-gen RPG for $20.
Apossum, as I recall it's marginally upgraded over the 360 version-not that you'd want to buy it a second time if you already owned it, but it would be the version to get (well, be default it would be for me anyway since I hate how friggin LOUD the 360 is :( )
