View Full Version : Wal-mart Warranty on Game Consoles?
I finally got the Nintendo Wii after waiting outside of Wal-mart for 5 hours in the cold weather. When I finally got to the cashier and bought the Wii, they had extended warranty that works after basic manufacturer warranty is over.
I'm not sure of the specifics on the warranty (not sure what it covers) but the warranty is pretty cheap (2 yrs for 20 bucks I think).
Is the Wal-mart warranty worth it? Will it cover parts and labor? Or is it a replacement warranty (like Best Buy's)?

I would check, but I am willing to bet that if you took your broken wii back to Wal-mart a year and a half from now. They would see you extended warranty receipt and just give you a new console on the spot.

I agree with paddlefoot, the regular Wal-Mart warranty is 90 days, but with it extended I'm "guessing" you can return it for a new unit within that time frame.

The problem with a store warranty for the Wii is that Virtual Console games are tied to your machine. If you return the console for a new one, you lose anything you had purchased from the VC channel.

My understanding is that you can deactivate your My Nintendo account from your Wii and then load it onto another console, where you can redownload everything. Only one account can be activated at a time (and you can't just activate and take it online because you have to deactivate it instead).

what happen if your wii is broken before you deactiuvate it... then thats a problem

Firts of all its not worth it. Nintendo systems are always solid and have an extremely low defect rate. I've got every nintendo system, except the original, within 3 months of launch and have never had a problem with any of them.
Plus Nintendo give a 1 year warrenty on the system, and 90% of the time if you have a difective unit, it will have problems within the first year.

Keep in mind that its 2 years AFTER the manufacture first year, so its kinda like having 3 years of warranty.
Someone said that it covers the whole thing, if so that is really a crazy deal (its only like what, 18 bucks?)
Maybe they will let me add the warranty to it later on? ...

I work at Wal-mart, and I thought I should let you know the "product care plan"(as they call it) is NOT through Wal-Mart. If something goes wrong, you cannot take it to Wal-Mart. It's through a company called NEW(https://www.newcorp.com/), and you have to go through them to deal with any problems.
We haven't been offering them long enough that I've seen people actually try and use it at our store if something went wrong, or heard anything about dealing with this company, so as far as the level of service they actually provide, I have no idea.

I believe you have up to 90 days from the date of purchase to get the plan, just take in your reciept.
