I've noticed that older 360 units had an issue of scratching discs. Well yesterday I was watching Dead Man's Chest DVD on my 360 and once I took it out I noticed a small chunk of the top layer of the inner ring of the disc missing. Now I don't know if the 360 did it, or if the disc came like this, but it played just fine either way. If it indeed WAS the 360, is it possible that the small bit that broke off is still inside the drive and could potentially damage other discs? I tried playing a game and it worked fine, plus it received no scratches. Plus, I shook the 360 (when it was off) and heard nothing that sounded like a bit of plastic flopping around inside. My 360 was manufactured in June 2006, if it matters. Thanks.

Mine did this with DOA4. Took a chunk out of the top layer of the middle. Made a thread about it (http://cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85485). Since Rhino offers a lifetime guarentee on their games, they switched it out no problem. Only happened the one time, though. It made a crack in the middle of my GRAW, but DOA4 is the only time a piece came loose/off.

Well, I work at CC, and they don't mind swapping anything out for me for a new copy. My worry is the 360. Are you still using the same one without any other issues?

Well it did happen to me one time only after opening my Xbox 360 and doing all the updates I put in my copy of Halo2 and it came out broken from the inner ring, I called Microsoft and they just offer me to check it-fix it but I just had t for a couple of hours the guy said that it will take at least two months to get it back, I told him that all I wanted was my copy of Halo 2 back and they said that they did not have that game t give and they send me a free copy of Need For Speed and the coffin just in case I wanted it to send my Xbox 360 anyways, I have to say that the xbox was standing up and since I decided to lay it down and had no issues since.......

Call Microsoft......

It may be unrelated, but is the 360 set up vertically or horizontally? I've never noticed anything like this on mine, but mine is always horizontal.

Yeah, if it's horizontal I'd be worried, but it seems a LOT of issues come when it's vertical.

I'm starting to think it was just the movie itself that came that way, not the 360. When I exchanged it, I noticed that the disc itself was colored differently than the cracked one. Plus it was odd to me that the crack was right where the paint of the disc ended. Plus, the piece was not still on the disc like in other cases, it was just gone. I shook the 360 to see if it was in there and heard nothing out of the ordinary. So I'm guessing it came that way and the 360 isn't giving me any grief. Just my paranoia :/

My 360 cracked a little bit of the inner ring of my brother's copy of Madden 07 (including part of the data portion), and it made the game unplayable. It happened within the 90 day warrantee, so EA replaced it for free.
They even included a letter about proper disk care, because my brother has so much control over if the 360 cracks a disk.
