View Full Version : Halo 2 on 360 Problem...help me?

Forgive me if I'm just an idiot (likely), but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I tried playing Halo 2 on my 360 on Live, and I'm having no luck - it tells me that I have to download the additional maps. Thing is, I did - at least the five it'd let me download. The other two map packs are locked out - I can't download them. WTF?

Because of my not having the extra maps, I -can't- play Live Halo 2.

In other words, I need one person to clue me in on what's wrong and twenty or thirty more to say "stfu n00b". Bonus points to the guy who asks me why I'm still playing Halo 2, and even more bonus points if he recommends Gears Of War and tells me to "get with the times".

You're going to 'Download Content' under the matchmaking options, correct? What does it say? What is 'locked out?' They're not selectable?

There should be 5 more maps for you to download. I'm not sure what the problem is. They should be free.

Also, there is no shame in playing Halo 2 still. No FPS better than it until Halo 3.

My old 360 died, traded the whole thing in including the HD. Big mistake, I tried to play Halo 2 tonight and it will not let me download any of the map packs. I'm in the same boat as you and the whole thing confuses me.

You still would to have had to REdownlaod the maps if you kept the HDD and had them send you another unit. The emulation works that way.

OP try deleting the ENTIRE Halo2 save file and then try re downloading the content

I'm going to try that, thanks!

I've had to re-download those damn map packs EVERY time i start up halo 2. They never stay, for some reason. I just stopped playing halo 2.

It let me download the "maptacular" pack (I think that's the name, it's the five pack). The other two map packs (each with two maps each) aren't selectable. It just gives me the dreaded "doot" beep and laughs at me.

Because of this, it won't connect me to the Live server for online games.

I just did the same thing on Saturday night, but I didn't have any problems downloading the maps.

I picked up the collectors edition of halo 2 off amazon because I lost my copy awhile ago. I also tried to play online but needed the maps too. It went half way getting the new maps and then said maps were not downloaded successfully. I believe thats because I'm on a satellite internet connection and its not always constant. Should I buy the map pack dvd because I too want to play on live.

Sounds like someone needs to let MS know there is a problem.

If you can borrow a copy of the Map Pack disc, it might be helpful to do that, since your 360 seems to have issues downloading it.

What is the deal with this map disc?

The map disc comes with all the Halo 2 extra maps and with a short video.

Pros: you always will have a copy of the maps, video

Cons: you have to pay for it (maps are free on XBL)

I don't see why you're having issues OP, I have a 360 and DLed all 9 maps with no problems at all. However, I do have a new GT, so I don't know what would've happened had I tried using my old one (on which I had purchased all the maps before).

After calling Microsoft, they told me that it's a problem with my Live account. It's semi-rare, but not unheard of. I was instructed to sign out of Live, fire up Halo 2, and download from there (logging in not at the system blades, but when Halo prompts me).

I did, and everything worked fine. The TS guy thanked me for being patient and supporting Microsoft and Xbox Live, and reminded me about the Halo 3 beta.

All is well.

Hey, thanks, I just got Halo 2 recently and might fire it up tonight. Send me a friend request and maybe we can play together some time?

Of course. Two years after I originally bought the game, I still more or less suck - but I suck with style.

I just bought it for my new 360 (never had an xbox) so I'll be playing it for the first time.
