how is it for gaming ... the website lists it as a 12ms panel. Is it laggy/smeary while playing games?

It's not too bad on xbox, I've only played a few minutes of GTA SA so far to test it. But if you are going to use for gaming a lot, you might want one with a better response time.

what about ghosting? is it really noticable when playing games or watching sports? how does sdtv look for normal tv watching?

I've only noticed the ghosting when there is some fast movement against a dark background on tv. So far all the games I've played look great. I was just playing SSX Tricky and there was zero ghosting. SDTV looks better than my crt, but it may depend on what you receive your signal from. I have a cable with a Motorola DCT6412 DVR, and right now I have just the component cables running to it. It's set to send 720p for the HD signal and 480p for the analog signal.
