View Full Version : Abandoning my 360 :(

I've owned a 360 for 2 weeks, and I'm already on my second system. The first one gave me DRE's and cracked my copy of Dead Rising's inner ring, the 2nd one I've had for 2 days and I noticed my copy of gears of war was now cracked in the same spot.
I think I'm just going to return my 360, get my money back and try to ebay my cracked, but still playable games.
I thought the 360 was great, but the hardware problems are insane! I hope I can get away with only a lossof $60 or so...
btw: I called MS when I had my 1st 360 to order the extended warranty, they said somehow it was already out of warranty.

Hmmm
1st off you should've posted here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91772&page=25
Sorry to hear about your 360 problems, but can I ask why you've been a member here for almost three years and this is your first post? (Not trying to sound like an ass, just wondering)

I joined a while back because you needed to be a member of the forums to see some of the deals. I became active on here to find other gamers to play with. Sorry for posting in the wrong spot

Where did you buy your console? Given that your console is already out of warranty, it sounds like you got one of the many launch/near-launch units that people returned using the ol'switcheroo. My friend had this same thing happen to him. Turned it on and three lights almost immediately. Called MS and the console had been registered 8 months prior. I really wonder how many people experience this issue. Anyways, really hope you can give MS another shot at least sometime down the line. Defects aside, there are some really great games to be had.

yeah i'm bummed out cause I had so much fun with it, but I figure I'll return all my shit and maybe in a couple months when they figure this crap out I'll buy another 360.
FYI my 360 has always been vertical

That could be your problem. Put it horizontal.

Dude I almost thought this thread was going to be about you, and I was sad.

Thats bull crap. IF that happened to me, I would probably abandon the consoel as well. M$ should offer you a free game and a free console replacement.

Granted the situation sucks with the botched hardware, the only one that really loses is you as a gamer...MS already had your money, they probably dont care.
With all of the quality games that are out for 360, and the games coming out in 1Q next year, I'd fight to get that thing working again.

M$ should offer you a free game and a free console replacement.I've been without my 360 for a while, since it completely died on me with the ring of death. Since I have a late 05 model I was able to get free repairs, but if I called later, I would not have qualified for free shipping (MS now makes people pay their own shipping, from what a rep told me). My 360 still hasn't been received at the repair center yet. I will say that if my 360 breaks again, in a short time period (I won't be surprised if it happens) and if MS were to make me pay something (such as shipping the console and/or repair costs), then I'm dropping the 360 very quickly and buying a Wii and/or PS3 (or maybe just saw screw next gen for a while). I wouldn't re-buy one until it was $200 or less (at least for a core, since I'd keep my HDD).
Hopefully, that doesn't happen.

The warranty on the 360 should be 1 year, like Sony and Nintendo are doing with their consoles and handhelds.

I have exchanged my console once already the first was giving me disc read errors.

Just put it HORIZONTAL. Don't bump anything...make sure it's completely flat. Try clearing the cache if you have disc read errors (Hold "A" button when a game is booting up or there is another method).

I would have immediately taken it back to the retailer when it became apparent that this was a previously sold system.

I was going to abandon the system but now I'm really enjoying my games and getting friend requests...
Maybe I'll return my console and get uncracked games and leave the console horizontal.
I hate that this is such a hassle, I really enjoy my 360 why cant it just work?

I'm on my second on since buying one on Black Friday, DVD drive died on mine. However I have the product replacement plan from EB and swapping for a new system was easy. New system runs just fine.
If you like the games I wouldn't give up on it so quickly.

1.) I know it's aesthetically 'cooler', but I never put my consoles in the 'upright postion'.
2.) 2007, when it's all said and done, could be the best year for 360. Just sayin'...
3.) Abandoning my 360 :( Don't do that! At least take it to a console shelter where hopefully in due time, it will find a loving home!

Okay so I decided tomrrow I'm going to get a new console, a new copy of GoW and a new copy of Dead Rising. I'm laying the console on its side, but at the first sign of trouble I'm returning it for good. Wish me luck!
