View Full Version : Case Mods? (allowed to discuss?)

I was basically just curious about the replacement cases that I see for sale online. I am eyeing that green case that looks like the LE Halo Xbox or the crystal clear case, but wanted to know if anyone had experience with them. Also, I was wondering if anyone had managed to find a way to make the 360 quieter with fan swaps, though it seems that the majority of the noise comes from the DVD drive itself. Thanks for any advice, sorry if this isn't kosher.

I don't see why this wouldn't be allowed. Geez, these days, anything short of direct links to porn seems to be tolerated. Not as if you're asking for mod chip suggestions or places to download pirated games.

I'm trying to find the link for the cases that have a clear light up X on the sides. Give me a min to find the link.

Here we go.

If they didn't cost so much I would buy it with green lights.

Its not that strange of a question. If you frequent the OT forums here, you know just about anything goes, but I've been to other forums where you get banned for even using the word mod pertaining to consoles. Even just case mods. Why mod your case if you aren't going to do something illegal? *ominous music*

Some places just have zero tollerance.

Those look pretty nice, but the risk of gutting my console (and voiding any chance of it ever getting fixed if it breaks) to do it doesn't seem worth it.

Plus, my friend drew me a SUPER sweet Master Chief faceplate... used the cover of the halo graphic novel for inspiration.

i would assume it comes with instructions and you probably have to solder 2 connections, the power for the led's.

and i didnt see a black one. there is a chrome one with red lights. the shot is taken in a dark room to show off the lights.

The easiest way of making your 360 quieter would be to remove any disc from the drive. Of course, if you're playing a game or watching a movie...

i went to http://www.foundmy.com and purchased the Chameleon xbox case, and the black casing for a controller. received it in about 6 days, and it's fairly simple. there's no instructions, but online i found these

to disassemble your 360

http://www.xbox-modchips.com/xbox360-tutorials/xbox-360-opening-guide.htm

Your wireless controller mod instructions

http://www.xbox-modchips.com/xbox360-tutorials/xcm-wireless-case-mod-guide.htm

for the controller it's 3 wires to solder, fairly simple.

Abizolaki
12-12-2006, 11:21 PM
in reference to the com button in the middle, you can put the stock one into the mod case, but you'd have to take out the circuit board that's on the modded case, then pop it out and replace. i tried it, but i like the smooth black look so i switched back.

Abizolaki
12-12-2006, 11:25 PM
the buttons, controls, everything feels the exact same. i actually prefer this one since it has a more textured feel, unlike the regular one that felt too smooth. i do see a little bit of a drain, but i can get about 20 hrs of play with it, vs 24 hrs. with the rechargeable pack, you CAN get it to work, but you'd have to take the battery pack they include, and cut it up then superglue. i have some energizer rechargeable batteries, and they work better than the rechargeable pack.

yea the only difference is on the stock controller shows only green that it's indicating, with the others being dark. if you pop in the com button into the mod, it'll be green indicator and the inactive quatrants will be blue.

My Sears only had them in very expensive sets. No other store that I went to had a TM8 with at least a 1.5 inch shaft. I wound up just using a drill bit to snap out the security nub and then I could use a normal torx 8 on 5 of the screws. For the deep two in the handles, I just used a shitty flathead and cut it to the width of the screw hole.

The only bad part about the vinyl dye is the really limited color selection.

Krylon Fusion does look really nice, but its not the same thing. Its a paint that bonds better to plastic, not that actually recolors it.

Also, just a few words to the wise;
--When painting, get the under side lips around the edges, parts of the WILL be visible.
--Put the paint on slowly in several light passes.. If you hold the can 3 inches away its going to look like a runny mess.
--Be careful painting the button/stick holes, too much paint will make the buttons sticky/limit the range of motion on the sticks. Put the circuitboard back in the front with the buttons and test everything before you put it together, if anything feels too tight, sand it a bit.
--Don't paint any face buttons except the back and start buttons, it'll look like shit and will make them too big to use. Don't even contemplate painting the dpad or analog sticks. Grey is good enough.
--Be careful painting the controller sync and battery eject buttons. You don't want to paint them shut and have them just look like a messy paint lump. They do come out, but you have to break them off and then glue them back on.
--Get lots of latex gloves. The controller parts have a lot of curves and hard to reach areas. You'll have a hard time painting them just sitting them on the ground. Hold it in your hand with your back to the wind and rotate it to get all the areas.
--Don't wear good clothes. :dunce:
--You can put on new coats after the DRY time, but don't touch it until after the HANDLE time.
--Don't use newspaper to cover parts of your project, the paint will pull the dye out of the paper and fuse it to the plastic. Use plain white printer paper.
--I had used a sealant that ate through one of my colors. I used yellow black and red and everything looked fine before I went to seal it. After I put on the sealent and it started to try, the black started disapearing. :wall:

yea I didnt want to void my warrenty as I have modded my original xbox so I know a bit about it and I've been a member of xbox-scene.com for some time and have been watching their progression of modding. That said I went with the skins like the ones you would find at decal girl but I went with the same guys that did my xbox skin, http://www.gameconsoleskins.com (http://www.gameconsoleskins.com/) and I always like to skin my consoles, (xbox ds and 360) because it gives them a personality and they're that little bit more to you. I dont like how white is the new black and everything white now reminds me of macs or ipods so I really enjoy my 360 skinned now:
