I was playing Lego Star Wars, the game froze. I restarted the console and got the red rings. I turned off the console once more and when it booted up this time it looked back to normal. Is there a chance that it was a fluke I got the rings once or am I pretty much screwed and dig out my warranty?

did you try unplugging all the wires and then plugging them back in? My 360 did this on the first week I had it, I did that and haven't had any problems with it since.

Everything is working fine now, but if this is an indication of things to come, I feel like I'd rather get it fixed now.

If you haven't had any problems prior to this, maybe it was only a one-time thing.

I wouldn't go send the system in yet unless it happens again.

I'll hold off for now then and see what happens. I played a little more and the game did freeze again, but when I restarted, no rings. Of course now I'm paranoid but I'll wait a week or so.

I've had mine since near launch and no problems but all these constant problems people have make my heart skip.

I thought I was safe because I've had my system since May and play it regularly. On one hand, I wouldn't mind getting it fixed now before the warranty ran out so I can sort of start with a fresh system.

Get it fixed while you have a warranty for sure.

I got the three rings after there was a power outage in my building. I restarted it and it worked fine. Two weeks later I got Gears and the thing froze on me every 2 minutes, now on all games. Not sure if it was related, but it could be a sign of things to come.

I called up EB this morning since I have the Product Replacement Plan and they said they will just replace the system, so I'm seriously considering getting a new system and hoping for the best. The only bad part is I will have to re-buy the warranty from EB.

I got the red rings at least once a week since around March (I bought it in December 2005). Every time it happened was in the middle of a game - it would freeze, give me the red rings and I'd be forced to turn it off. Once I rebooted everything would work fine. I thought about sending it in to MS for repairs but never did until 2 weeks ago when my entire system basically died a slow death. During Chapter 2 of Gears of War it would ALWAYS freeze at the same spot. Then all of my USB ports died (no camera, no HD-DVD drive and no iPod functionality). Next, I noticed during DVD playback that red spots would appear all over the screen for no reason and the DVDs started freezing. Then, I was unable to connect to Xbox Live at all. Finally, during another attempt at Gears of War the console froze, the red lights came on and it totally died. Every reboot produced nothing but the red rings so I sent it in for repairs.

I'd recommend getting it fixed and putting the refurb unit under warranty because I think it's only a matter of time before the thing breaks down completely. It's complete bullshit that a $400 machine doesn't work like it should. I've owned faulty electronics before but nothing like this. I'm hoping now they have everything to the point that these problems are few and far between...

I would replace it. My 360 froze once while playing a demo of R6: Vegas but there was no red light light of death. GoW and Dead Rising have been the main focus of my 360 since getting it back in August 06 and have had no real problem yet.

Every system has it's problems now a days, PS2's had DRE (on my 2nd PS2), my GC would freeze all the time playing Metroid Prime, and my Xbox would lock up every now and then in Halo 1 or 2.

I had a warranty from MSft. and i sent mine in on last tues*the 5th* and I got the tracking number for my fixed system and it says it comes today * HELL YEA* if this is true its only been 9 days THATS fuckING CRAZY ive never heard of a turn around that fast.

Well I have a warranty from EB so according to the person I talked to today, I just bring in my system without cables or HD and I get a new core(I'm guessing) system. This sounds too easy, does anyone else have any experience with EB's warranty?

My 360 isn't broken, nor did I plan on sending it in to Microsoft.

Well since the thread is very very long I checked the title and it didn't seem to apply to me. Yes, I'm sure somewhere in there my question is answered, but this got me help much quicker. And no one else seemed bothered by it.
