I just realized that we seem to clash on the topics. But in a previous topic, it hit me. You know what? At least the members of cheapassgamer are active in the political process and at least we vote. Since it would seem most do not (we're still way under 50% voter turnout, right?), we should be proud to say we do!

I agree--as long as you educate yourself on the issues and the candidates, whether it be for Town Clerk or President, I support your vote and your voting.
I think we've only hit above 50% voter turnout in maybe 3 Presidential elections since 1950. Which is incredibly sad.
That said, I think an ignorant vote, or one made solely on soundbites or commercials, is possibly worse than no vote at all.
I have voted in every election, local, state or national, since I turned 18, even the ones that occurred when I was away from home at school and they make it an ordeal to get a ballot.

Thank you! This is exactly why I hate all these campaigns to get people to vote, like Rock the Vote and such. They basically say everyone should vote, but I don't agree. In the past, I have not voted, because I did not pay attention to politics, and therefore, my vote would have no basis. This year, however, I have more political knowledge and may indeed vote.

No one should vote just to vote, or to say they did.

I think Rock the vote tries to educate people in what the politicans stand for. They will be doing interviews with them allegedly or at least have shows discussing the issues closer to election time.

Rock the Vote's primary goal is to get people registered, which in itself isn't a bad idea.
Their secondary goal is to ask Presidential candidates if they wear boxers or briefs, and their tertiary goal is to elect Democrats.

chickenhawk: Absolutely--a random vote, or, worse, a vote because 'someone' said to vote for this person is like vote stacking. Let me clarify my history: I have voted in every election, but i haven't voted for everything/everyone on the ballot if I don't know anything about it [something that the FL voting board didn't realize--there's something called 'abstaining.']
