Yeah, the story isn't doing much for me, and they've just now begun to establish the main villain's m.o., when they had 20 hours prior to do so. The gameplay, however, is just phenomenal (and I agree - the "Rare Game" and hunts are what I'm shooting for, storyline or not).

I'd have to say that the voice acting is good, though Fran has a bit too much of a "Dr. Evil" accent. Balthier's voice actor is *perfectly* smarmy.

Register through godaddy or any other reputable registrar. You'll be able to renew each year and the domain is yours as long as you continue to do so. (Assuming a court doesn't make you give it up in some sort of copyright/trademark lawsuit.)

You can get very good hosting for $5 a month. (1and1.com has a great $5/month plan.)

You can get gimpy hosting for much cheaper. If you just want to use it to host some static pages gimpy hosting would be fine. You can even get some use out of a domain with no hosting. I have one (registered through godaddy) that simply redirects to a blogger blog while I'm 'in between' real hosts.

When you buy webspace, you can apply your domain name to it.

They charge $6.95 a month for their basic plan.

It costs money to keep your domain each year (ICANN charges it I think) so that's why you can't register forever. I guess you could up for a ton of years though.

To setup your hosting somewhere else you just put their DNS servers on your account with your registrar. It is very simple. Godaddy offers their own hosting, but you can probably get similar stuff cheaper elsewhere and it's not a hamper to your site or anything.

Lil late to the discussion, but id recommend godaddy for the domain and hosting bit. Its like $7 a year for the domain and then im in a hosting plan thats $3.99 a month. You can easily find codes online that give you 15% or so off, so winds up being pretty cheap. The 3.99 includes SQL and Access DB , and .ASP net backend stuff - if you choose windows - otherwise theres PHP and crap for linux that i dont know as much about.

I bought mine from Target when their rainchecks didn't suck and you could use them to sub on anything. I think I picked it up for $22-something + tax.

Past posts by CAGs have shown that accessories do work with the B2G1 sales, though most likely, you end up with the accessory on the cheap.

There is truth in why I hate calling K-Mart as I've probably posted about the dumb as hell woman working the electronics area at the one I "frequent" (and I use the word "frequent" lightly). The last time I was in there I instead saw some semi dumb idiot literaly standing around taping security devices to DVDs. No I kid you not. He was taking shipping tape and using it to wrap a security device around the DVD case. Jesus have these idiots ever thought of buying... I dunno.... security cases. Yeah it costs a little more but it doesn't look as ghetto or tacky as the method they are using.

Plus here are a LOT of other dumb things I observed at that K-Mart:

- Superman Returns (on the week of release) was "on sale" for $19.99.
- The Guitar Hero 2 bundle with the guitar was "on sale" for $86.99.
- They had several boxes of DVDs with all various prices on them mixed together with no ryhme, logic, or reason. Yet there was a sale sign right next to them all with only 3-4 titles listed.
- Numerous items on "clearance" for a few dollars more than what they sell for normally elsewhere.
- Several Mario Kart Red DS Fatteys for $149.... "normal everyday price" of course.
- A voice recording of a person hyping up how we need to run to the K-Mart cafe right now for the breakfast special... at 6:30 PM! :lol:
- Sports jersey's high enough to where you can't reach them yet low enough to where one can just yank it off from the hanger. :roll:
- Christmas seasonal items marked UP at least 40-60% from what everyone else sells them for.

I could go on but I think you get my point. Thank god you got out of there Rufass. :D

As just a worker, all you had to do was show up, clock in, do what people told you, and leave. But higher up, you had to deal with the most inane and retarded things ever.

Once, I had to change a display every day for 4 days... everytime the DM came in he wanted something different, and he'd yell at ME for how it was before even though HE made me change it!!!!

Once they wanted me to re-arrange my display case... I did, it looked great, customers love it, then a week later they told me to change it back to how it was.

I re-arranged the game case so everything was PERFECT... each case was it's own seperate game, again, customers loved it, game sales went UP because people could find what they wanted. I was told it "didn't follow the planogram" and to change it back, so PS2 was mixed in with Xbox, GC was mixed in with both, it looked like a fucking train wreck, and confused the hell out of the customers.

Ever wonder why there is nobody in electronics? K-Mart FREQUENTLY would pull all my staff members for other projects because "Electronics is never busy and dosen't make sales". I *couldn't* make sales simply because they kept pulling away my staff, and people got frustrated and left!!

It was literally hell to work there.

Sears is part of K-Mart, K-Mart is smart and owns the land their stores are built on, and much of the land is worth a shit ton, so when they sold the land K-Mart got rich. It's the same way Toys R Us avoided bankruptcy I believe... they closed the stores, sold the land, made a ton of money.

One TRU here closed a store that was right next to a new multi story shopping center with a Target in it, once it was done and the land value went extremely high TRU closed the store and sold the land.

I would hear that from customers all the time. "$19.99 isn't a sale, that's the normal price, Best Buy has it for $13.99". Here it is.

K-Mart had a job position where the positions only job was changing prices, updating clearance prices, getting the correct tags on all the ad sale items, making sure everything was ringing up what it was supposed to ring up.

Corporate decided the job was dumb and axed it to save money, and to axe everyone who held the job as well. The lady who was to get axed was with my store for 19 or 20 years, some ridiculously long number, and she was like 60 +.

Rather than fire her, they wanted to keep her since I guess she was close to retiring, and push someone else out instead. I was the last person to be made manager, and the first person to get cut because of it. So I got laid off, and they gave her my job being an Electronics Manager.

The funny thing is she HATED electronics, she wouldn't even tag my stuff for sale because she hated it that much.

From what I've heard the dept. is a mess again. I haven't stepped foot in the store since.

The funny this I took my dept from shit sales to meeting our sales goal each and every day... I effectively 180'ed the whole dept., but I guess that's just "office politics", the low man on the totem pole gets the axe. No, it's ok, fire me, who worked my ass off, don't fire the one manager who took 10 smoke breaks a shift or the other manager who spent the majority of her time on her cell phone dealing with her divorce and talking to her new boyfriend.

Yea, stockroom was awesome, we'd play hockey back there with some of the stock, there was a camera back there but it didn't work (i.e the camera was involved in an "Accident" that nobody ever fixed). We came in late, left early, took longer breaks than usual, as long as we got our quotas filled we could do whatever we wanted.

Back then I was drinking pretty heavily among other things so we'd frequently get trashed during our breaks and come back to work. Nobody cared or noticed since we worked in the back where nobody saw us.

K-Mart had a job position where the positions only job was changing prices, updating clearance prices, getting the correct tags on all the ad sale items, making sure everything was ringing up what it was supposed to ring up.

Corporate decided the job was dumb and axed it to save money, and to axe everyone who held the job as well. The lady who was to get axed was with my store for 19 or 20 years, some ridiculously long number, and she was like 60 +.

Rather than fire her, they wanted to keep her since I guess she was close to retiring, and push someone else out instead. I was the last person to be made manager, and the first person to get cut because of it. So I got laid off, and they gave her my job being an Electronics Manager.

The funny thing is she HATED electronics, she wouldn't even tag my stuff for sale because she hated it that much.

From what I've heard the dept. is a mess again. I haven't stepped foot in the store since.

The funny this I took my dept from shit sales to meeting our sales goal each and every day... I effectively 180'ed the whole dept., but I guess that's just "office politics", the low man on the totem pole gets the axe. No, it's ok, fire me, who worked my ass off, don't fire the one manager who took 10 smoke breaks a shift or the other manager who spent the majority of her time on her cell phone dealing with her divorce and talking to her new boyfriend.

The site *should* be about cheap deals on games and DVD's, yet the front page is full of CAGcast's, opening Playstation 3's, and now some goofy editorial. I mean, I didn't mind the CAGcast's, those are fun, but it seems like all of this internet popularity seems to be affecting the site.

Cheapy mentioned in one thread how he is "redesigning" the front page and how "people who want to write editorials and articles should PM him" and I'm thinking this website is going to turn more into a kotaku and less of a place to find cheap game deals.

I mean, about 2% of the hot deals ever wind up on CAG's front page, yet the internet popularity stuff goes up almost instantly.

Once this site moves away from gaming deals (which I think it is) I'm going to find a new deal site to frequent, I think. This kind of reminds me of how Penny Arcade stopped really being about the comics and evolved into something worse, imo. The comics seems to be an afterthought these days.

I just feel that same thing may be happen to CAG, where the deals are just will just be an afterthought to all of this other crap going on.

I think that's because most of the stuff is in forum threads nowadays -- only the most major stuff get's put up as a news item on the front page by mr CheapyD.

Well, I'm not damning anyone who contributes, no, if the opportunity is there you should definitely take it.

It just seems like this site is more about the growing popularity of CheapyD and Wombat and is becoming more or less a vehicle for that, rather than about the cheap deals and good bargins. This site seems to be taking on a Kotaku like prescence.

One thing that really got me was that ViolentLee wrote up an excellent article on the best and worst of 2006, yet that didn't get on the front page, yet this other sloppy article did? If you're going to put up articles at least make them good.

I mean, looking at the front page now, half of it is non deals, the other half is just redundant deals or deals from Amazon. I post in the OTT, I post in some of the other sub forums, but I'm mainly (90%) here for the deals, and if those get shoved into the background I'm going to jump ship and head to Fatwallet / Slickdeals or somewhere similar.

Not to sound like an asshole, but the major stuff usually always involves him and whatever he is doing in the media. I know Cheapy still posts deals occasionally and what not, but by and large I feel the site is mostly becoming a vehicle to propel him into internet popularity (and it's apparently working, more power to him I guess).

I mean, does CAG even need "news items" to begin with? I don't see this sort of thing on other deal sites. But then again, PA used to be all about the comics, but now the comics are just something that's still sort of there because I guess they feel obligated to do it.

I just see alot of parallel's between this and PA.

What's with the Cheapy hate? He keeps the bigger deals in the forums so that there's a reason to register and to keep it here for as long as possible before it gets to FW and the other deals sites. Yeah, there's been a lot of huge deals lately that you wouldn't know about unless you've scoured the deals threads. The TRU unadvertised specials emails thread (Final Fantasy and Guitar Hero) BLEW UP yet it didn't even get a nod on the front page.

The thing is, Cheapy could post a bit of info on the deals on the front page and then have something like "Visit or Sign Up for the forums to read the full details" Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that's what he used to do with a lot of B&M deals.

CAG has become such a large machine now that it doesn't really matter what he does with it, it'll only get bigger. He could probably skip updating the site for a month straight and it would still gain a ton of new users every month. You can thank google for that.

Well, the disappearing was a joke, I know that wouldn't happen ;) I'm just kind of using the OTT to air out my opinions (as usual), because the people who post in the OTT are about 90% of the people on CAG whose opinions I care about.

Not as much no. He keeps saying on CAGcast that he's hesitant to mention the site because of the "ASS" part. I remember when Best Buy dropped support for the site (they claimed it was because of the ASS in the title, it seems that wasn't the case but still..) and he was almost proud of the "ASS" in the title. Now he won't even mention the site. Wombat mentioned the other domain names that redirect to CAG that he could have mentioned and Cheapy just kind of had an attitude like "oh well"

Actually, I don't remember much about my early days here because there wasn't much to talk about. The community was really small so there wasn't much need to constantly check the site. It was pretty much a daily routine, check the front page, check the deal forum, and go about my day. The front page highlighted all the site really had to offer at the time. I stopped visiting the front page about 3 years ago.

Luckily, the site grew and at a certain point everything kind of clicked where the community was catching up, in terms of importance, to the deals part of CAG. I would guess that the site's about 60/40 in favor of deals being the major reason why CAGs visit every day, but that can largely be shown by the intense amount of lurkers we have compared to regular posters. The front-page has just grown up to show that from what I see of it. The deals are easily visible in the forums since I'm guessing you don't need to be told what good deals are out there.

I don't get why Cheapy's getting thrown under the bus because he's chosen to highlight the great community and how it's affected the site and left the good CAG deals in the forums?
