I managed to get a Wii on release date, and have been loving Wii Sports and Zelda: TP ever since. The system is simply amazing.

I had my first problem tonight. My brother is home visiting for the next two weeks. He absolutely loved the first Metroid Prime game, and has been dying to play MP2 since it came out, but his GC was stolen before he ever had a chance to play it. We knew Wii was backwards compatible with GC games so (being the good brother I am :) ) I went out and bought MP2 and a GC controller so he could play it. As soon as we turn it on, it says unable to find a memory card. The only way to get the game to start is to click "continue without saving". As you all know there is no way to play any Metroid game without saving. Why is this happening? Is there no support to save to the Wii's internal memory? If we actually need a memory card to play this thing, where does it plug in? I searched all over the Wii console, and couldn't find a slot for a GC memory card. The only possible thing I can think of is that the slot is supposed to be on the GC controller (?) and since we got a 3rd party controller it doesn't have it. Please help!

Sorry, this was a bit long - short version:

1) Bought Metroid Prime 2 & 3rd party GC controller to play on the Wii.
2) Unable to save game.
3) Where is the memory card slot?

Summary: you need a GC memory card to save GC games. Slots for memory card next to plugs for controllers.

the top side of the wii (if the wii was standing vertically) should have two panels. one panel should open up to reveal 4 GC controller ports, the other right next to it, has two GC mem slots

once a GC game is started, the Wii's feature become none existent. i dont even think you can use the wiimote to turn the system off when you're playing a GC game.

Mine won't recognize a third party MC that has an assload of saves on it. I'm too lazy to transfer back and forth with an official card with a fraction of the space.

Yep, the Wiimote is useless.

I hear even the rushed PS3 lets you save to the HDD when you're playing PS2 games. Do most people already have memory cards or something?

Yeah, that's not good either. But the Wii's problem could have been fixed with a software change.

It was worse with me, my MC card was corupted by my Wii. In one shot Boom all my Smash Bros data lost.
