View Full Version : so.. what'd you give for christmas?

mr ryles
12-25-2006, 02:24 AM
Didn't really get much for christmas, at least not to my knowledge yet, but I sure as hell did my fair share of giving this year.

Kodak digital camera w/ a 1 GB SD card for my dad. And I got him a couple shirts.

Bought my mom a necklace, a sweatshirt, a new bed set with a blanket pillows sheets, etc. and the new monopoly here and now edition. (Which I really want to fucking play, they replaced all the old pieces and properties with current day versions. No more thimbles and ships. Now it is motorola razr and toyota prius pieces. And marvin gardens has been replaced with madison square garden.)

Bought Guitar hero II and an ass load of clothes from eastbay.com and from foot locker for my 2 little brothers.

I also have 2 cousins living with me that are 6 and 7 years old. I bought them a DVD player and some DVD's. Then a bunch of kiddie toys. For the girl got her an e-z bake oven and some dolls. Got the little boy some Legos, nerf balls, and a GC memory card since I gave them my cube when I got the Wii.

Then just a couple other misc. small things I can't remeber.

Absolutely nothing.

I did give one friend a card, but it wasn't nice by any means (well, the card design and such was nice, having been designed by Strell, but I printed it out on a normal sheet of paper and accidentally bent it during delivery), so it doesn't really count as a gift, which usually have monetary value or thought put into them.

Well, here's my list of gifts I gave:

Thermal hoodie from Craftsman in Navy Blue to my Dad because he needed to replace his old one.

Gave my mom an Envision 15' Flat Panel monitor because she wanted a new monitor and never got around to buying one after getting a new computer months ago.

Gave my girlfriend money to help pay on her car note and car insurance for her 2002 Chevy Blazer LS.

That's it so far and I will probably end up giving money to my nieces and nephews if they ask me for something for Christmas.

I gave my girlfriend a Canon A530 digicam (Thanks for the help CAG!), as well as the mandatory plushie and card. I also, with the help of a friend, rolled up a bunch of paper balls and hid $100 worth of $1 bills in some. She stayed up all nite looking for all of them XD

I still haven't finished shopping for my parents though, but that's cuz I only had time to go to Best Buy last nite >_> I'm thinking of getting my pops some new kicks and paying off some of my mom's shopping cards.

bought a silver PS2 for a friend who loves to watch me play video games (i still owed her $80 so i figured this paid it off....besides, FYE had a rebate, hehe)
for my other friends, i bought a japanese segatoys idog for a friend who keeps asking for a puppy, a usb missile launcher, the 20 questions electronic game thingie where you play against the computer, one of those less-well-known chess-like board games for my geeky friend, a french press set for someone who's been thinking of buying one for the last year, a stylus that i imported from japan for my friend's ds, CSI seasons 1/2/3 (also included my friend's 21st birthday in here) for my CSI obsessed friend, and nice pens for the ones that i'm not very close with.
got my mom and her boyfriend a coffee pot since they love coffee but are always drinking that instant stuff. got my dad a coffee tumbler that stays warm when you plug it into the cigarette lighter since he's always carrying his coffee mug into the car and spilling all over the place.

yes, i put a lot of thought into the presents that i buy for everyone. the problem is that i got starbucks cards from 4 of my friends and a random not wrapped dvd that still had the price tag on it from another (aka last minute buy). next year, i'm just gonna buy gift cards for everyone.

Unfortunately I didn't give as much as I wanted to as my cash supply has been running dry. Thank God for credit cards, and since I've recently been hired by Comcast I was able to get a few things:

Brother #1 - new RAM for his computer and a 1 gig SD card for his new digital camera

Brother #2 - Call of Duty 3

And then as a "family" gift I bought a DVD recorder and some blank DVD's.

Man, that sucks. What I wouldn't give to be young and greedy again.

I'm 20 and I feel the same way.

Mom:
- Outdoor decorative snowmen display that she wanted ($25)
- Pig slippers (she likes pigs; $5)
- Fleece pull-over ($13)

Dad:
- Pizza Maker ($30, was $25 off at work!)
- Flexible Drill Bit Extension-thingy (hard to explain; $8)

Sister:
- $20 gift card to Old Navy
- Paris Hilton Perfume ($28)

1.5 year-old Nephew:
- Giggling Elmo Chair ($25)
- Dump Truck with Duplo Blocks in the back ($8)
- Elmo's Christmas (a DVD; $7)
- Elmo slippers ($6)

3-month-old Niece:
- $20 or so in clothing

So in total I spent about $200 (definitely more than that after you factor in taxes and crap). That's by far the most I've ever spent. It was really fun watching my nephew open his presents, though. That little guy is adorable.

Yeah. I actually found the website for it in a magazine (OPM or Game Informer) and was looking at it with my wife back in November. They had 2 different variations of that sword. The one I originally linked to and a second one which is 1 foot longer. The problem with the bigger one is the hilt doesn't have as much detail and intricacy in it as the samller one. That's why I asked for/got the smaller one. Now I'm looking to try and get the Sephiroth sword to hang opposite the one I just got. Oh yeah, and that Buster sword... damn heavy. Can be wielded, but you'll feel like you just finished bench pressing a few sets.
