The only common problem I've heard about with DCs is the random reset during play. Maybe you'll be lucky and it's just the cord. There are sites out there (I imagine) that focus on things like console mods and/or repairs. They'd probably be able to help more than CAG.

Power supply is fried.

You need a new Dreamcast. It will be much cheaper then having it repaired.

You can find a replacement power plug for the Dreamcast at Gamestop/EBgames in-store, but that maybe just mine.

I think the original Xbox and PS2 use the same power cable.

Not the power cord, the power supply. The thing inside the machine that moves the power around the machine.

It sounds like it's toast. 90% of the time, if a machine will not power up, that's the problem.

Thankfully, Dreamcasts are relatively easy to replace, and cheap too.

A new power supply is defiately easy to replce. I think there are only about 20-25 screws in the entire Dreamcast, at it is.

You are looking at a couple screws and it slides off the connector pins. It's super easy to replace.

As for getting the replacement, that's got a lot of options.

You can pick one up from a pawnshop, if they still have any. You can maybe find one at a local swap meet and use it for parts. You could even hit one of the local gaming shops and see if any of the guys behind the counter still have one at home and are will to part with it. You could try ebay for a PSU, they show up now and then. There are all sorts of place to find them, it's just the looking part.

I do have to agree that a whole DC will most likely be cheaper than trying to get just the PSU from overseas shop or trying to get it repaired.

Hope that helps...

Yeah, replacing the powersupply is easy but why bother? Unless it's a limited edition machine (in which case opening it and replacing any original parts knocks the value out of it) what's the point? Just get a new machine. Go to garage sales. I see them all the time for under $20.
