Got a new machine for x-mas, also got battlefield 2. runs perfectly on the low video settings (no skips or what not).
I am just wondering, if BF2 works for me, what other games would I like that I could get to work?
I like shooters, action adventure, and maybe some RPGs (love KOTOR). I'm thinking of picking up call of duty 1 now that its cheap, but thats the only thing i really have in mind.
Any suggestions from CAGs? I can't say i really follow the PC gaming market, so some help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recommend checking out Sid Meier's Pirates. It's one of my favorite PC games.

Just what I was thinking. But I would recommend Dreamfall: The Longest Journey and Pirates!, well any Sid Meier game really.

you can check if your pc can run the game if you know your specs at my site if you'd like.

I recommend getting Half-Life 2 if your computer can handle it.

I know that whatever battlefield 2 is, it barely meets the requirements. I'll look up the specs in a min.

With those specs do not expect to run anything recent. That video card is extremely low end, it even eats off your low amount RAM, 1 GB is a minimum. Your processor is also very low end. Keep your expectations very low.

celron+built in graphics card with shared memory= crap
Spend your money on upgrades before wasting money on games. Better yet just play console games as over all you will get a better "Gaming" experience there then on your low end computer.

You should still be able to run Half-Life 2, though.

Ouch... those specs aren't that great. But if you can run Battlefield 2, then you should be able to run any other game that has similar minimum requirements.
I'd recommend HL2 (and the first HL if you haven't played it) if your system can run it.

find out whats the maximum amount of RAM you can have in your system, because you're going to need it if you want to play some of the more recent games out there.
With 1.5GB of RAM, you should be fine and be able to play a good amount of games...but not at the highest settings.

the specs are not too bad if he upgrades his RAM to the maximum...might cost a bit more than he wanted...but it will be worth it.
if it was bought from a major company let me know MillerTime I can fully see what your machine is capable of in just a matter of minutes...

There is a sticker right on it that says memory expansions up to 2GB, I think i'll drop my x-mas money on that.
BTW, I wasn't expecting to run oblivion on it, I was just wondering like what are some older games that I'll have fun with that will work with my specs.
Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions everybody!

cool.
Upgrade the RAM to 2GB, and don't upgrade to Windows Vista...trust me it will help you when you try to run games.
I'd also suggest getting a smaller Hard Drive @ 60GB but at 7,200 RPM at the very least.
those 2 will speed up your PC vastly. THIS IS a DESKTOP? or a Notebook? sounds like a Laptop to me...

Yeah its a notebook. Is upgrading a notebook kind of easy? or is it a pain in the ass?

Galactic Civilizations II is my recommendation.

Max Payne 1 and 2
MP2 may push your system but I'm not sure what the specs are. MP1 should work no problem at all.

If it's a notebook, then don't expect much of an improvement in gaming just because of more memory. In fact, there isn't much you can do to improve your gaming potential.

notebook=fucked
But then again my expectations are a little high with the rig I have. Just up the ram when there is a good deal(below $50 for a gig stick) and then you have pretty much upgraded everything you can.

ok.. well if it can run BF2.. and can't upgrade.. what are some good games I can play?
Again, No PC knowledge here when it comes to the games, so.. yeah. Thanks for the opinions so far. I think i'll just stick with BF2 and 1942 for now, maybe some other stuff.

I am also a bit of a PC noob...
Why did someone suggest a "smaller" HD like 60gb?
I understand that 7200RPM is good for fast drive access, but
why can't a 200gb HD work as well?
And doesn't the graphic card really make a difference with games?
I put in a graphics card (Radeon 9200) so I could play DDO.
It plays but is not smooth. I think I need a faster CPU - I have 1.80 now.
Anyways, thanks for the info!

Well you have to understand that 200GB Notebook Hard Drives were just released...and from what I have seen they only run at 4,200RPM. I only suggested the smaller 60GB Hard Drive at 7,200 RPM because he seems to me to be a light PC gamer...60GB would suit him well. A 60GB 7,200 RPM HDD over a 80GB 5,400 RPM HDD any day of the week when it comes to gaming.
Graphic card makes the biggest difference when it comes to games, he has an integrated solution because of his laptop...he can't change that one even if he wanted too...on ANY Laptop.
2GB of RAM
7,200 RPM HDD
that Video Card = Pretty GOOD Gaming...just don't expect to run Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter on it.

pain is the ass.
if you plan to upgrade to vista please understand that it will hurt your ability to run games SEVERELY due to the HOG that it really is.

I definately don't think that notebooks are something you really want to invest in for the purpose of gaming, so I don't know about dropping your Christmas cash on a memory upgrade as I don't think it'll help compensate for the low-end video card and somewhat slow processor. Not a bad computer for computing, though.

Congrats on your new computer. I reccomend Wal-Mart games, minesweeper and freecell
