I saw another PS3 in the wild today at a very busy Gamestop. The clerk was telling some one that they'd had 2 of them for a couple days now but everyone that comes in is only looking for the Wii or the DS Lite, neither of which they can keep in stock for more than a few seconds. We may actually see Nintendo get back some major console market share this year.

I'm a little nervous for Sony...I don't want them to do bad because it would be bad for the video game industry as a whole to lose the competition. Demand for the PS3 seems to be dropping fairly quickly compared to demand for the 360 last year.

I was refreshing the page about every 5 sec, was in the chat room, and watching my e-mail. All of the sudden someone in the chat room said they were up. My page just kept showing the "available 12/29..." then it switched to the OOS message. I received an e-mail alert around that time as well saying there had been a stock change on amazon.com. I never even saw the add to cart button. I had my one-click purchase account ready and waiting...

I saw the PS3 20GB system available about an hour after it was listed but I never tried to actually click to buy it...

wii - no one knows exactly but under 30 seconds is legitimate.. it appears that amazon spread the server load amongst multiple servers (hence people receiving 3-4 different product update text when they refreshed), and a vast number of people didn't even get to see an add to cart button.

There's no way it could have been there for 30 seconds. Seriously, we're talking seconds, and less than the time it takes you to refresh and then load a page. Gone.

Someone on fatwallet at 11:39 posted that the 20gb was able to add to cart but it was OOS, so under 40 mins for the 20gb.

ETA: The actual SOLD OUT text for the Wii did not appear for a considerable amount of time after the first report of a CAG in the chat saying that PS3s were available. Amazon was clearly splitting loads between servers. You guys think that if the product was available for 30 seconds then had you refreshed in that period you would have seen it. This is not the case - I'm sure X amount of people refreshed and got it whereas you did not. One of my friends talking to me via AIM saw the button/got his about 20-30 seconds after a CAG in the chatroom proclaimed it was up (I told him to refresh when the CAG announced and he got it after a few refreshes a result). This is a result of server-load balancing.

Thats the thing... by the time the 60GB version sold out alot of people added the 20GB to their cart for the hell of it, but never actually went through with the purchase.

In short:

Wii - 5 seconds (one-click is your friend)
PS3 60GB - 5 minutes tops (premiered at 11:02, died at 11:07)
PS3 20GB - outofstock/instock for at least 30-60 minutes.

I think the Wii's went up about 9:00AM PST. Seemed like that was the time when I got the in-stock e-mail and when the person in chat said it was up.

The 20GB was up for a LONG time. I'd say more than an hour, but maybe it showed up as OOS during that time.

Hey guys...I'm trying to find out how long each of the systems were available before they sold out. I want to update the front page.
From reading the thread here, it looks like:

Wii - approximately 5 seconds
PS3 60GB - 20 minutes
PS3 20GB - 60 minutes

Is this accurate?

The 60GB PS3 was a few minutes tops. By the time I checked out with my 20GB it was gone. The 20GB was up for quite a while. Could have been 20 minutes. No way was it an hour though.

Reason came over me again and I canceled my 20. I want it, but I have literally dozens of games to play through (thanks to this site!) before I need it :)

Yeah, but that one had an audio problem. It made popping noises in the menus (although seemingly not in games, but I didn't want to take a chance).

I got mine on Amazon at 11:53 am yesterday. :D

I am still in shock that I actually got one on that sale. I refreshed off and on those 2 hours before it was posted. It shipped same day and should be here Wednesday.

I received my 60 gigger from Amazon today (Prime overnight shipping). I was pleasantly surprised to see that it contained a copy of talladega nights.
