Yes, I already have the original bulky SG-1 season sets, but with CC selling the slim packs for $17.99 each, it is very tempting to "upgrade."
But I was wondering if there were any differences between the "bulky" sets and the slim packs besides the obvious size
Thanks,
-Brian

I picked up season 9 today as far as I can tell the only difference is they are missing the little inserts that tell the chapters.

I have all the fatties also and was thinking of upgrading, I'm still considering it.

The packaging is the only difference. The discs are exactly the same.
I've got some 9mm double slim packs i could sell you for each season if you want to slim down this set. Otherwise, i'd save the money.

They seem to always be part of DeepDiscounts B1G1 sale, so id wait for one of those. Combined with google checkout at dvdplanet before made it even sweeter (like $130ish for all 9 seasons)

True enough, in fact I think they were part of their most recent BOGO sale during the holidays.
However, I'm only interested in the first eight seasons (season 9 = jumping the shark) thus totaling around $144. Plus, if I get the cash back from trading in my "bulky" sets at GS, it will knock the total price down to around $80
That's why I started the thread - to make absolutely sure the slims were exactly the same as the "bulkies" before I traded in my sets

My understanding all the slew of issues, wrong version of eps, skipping, quality is all same as old one. At this point I just going wait for HD/BR or digitial D versions.

I've gotta ask the same thing. Richard Dean Anderson is fine, but Ben Browder is better actor than RDA ever thought about being. On top of that, Claudia Black is hilarious, and they're finally far away from that "Sam has a boyfriend" crap. Beau Bridges isn't perfect, but he's a serviceable replacement for Homer.
The Ori are, admittedly, out of left field, but at least they're powerful enough to challenge SG1. Their other major enemies were nearing the point that they weren't offering a believable challenge to our heroes.
Now, if you want to argue that the show should have ended shortly after season 7, I'll probably agree with you on that.

Last month I sold my first eight seasons for about $140 on eBay, and these were the fat packs. You'll get more for it on eBay than trading it in.

I love Ben and Claudia, but I'm a big Farscape fan. Although, I still prefer Hammond of Texas. I'm just glad we're done with the Stalker Pete episodes.

I was hoping S9 would introduce the Furlings as major element. I've only seen the first half of S9 so I don't know if they did.

OK, first, let me address the cast changes. Yes, I like Ben Browder and his character of Mitchell, but this entire thing is akin to "The X-Files" when Duchovny left, and was replaced with Robert Patrick. I liked Robert Patrick and his character of Agent Doggett, but the whole point of that show was about Mulder's search for his sister and the truth (granted I think everyone is still a little pissed about the cop-out they did with the ep that depicted what truly happened to his sister in season...7?). Jack is the leader of that team and when he was promoted to General in season 8, I was a little leery because now he wasn't going to be going on missions. But they managed to pull of a passable season (one of my fav eps is when he was writing the letter to Hammond during all the craziness). When they added Claudia Black I started calling the show "Far-gate." I think if they had recruited actors not associated with sci-fi, the cast transition would have been a little more palatable
Apparently, they employed the same writers as "V - The Series." Remember in "V - The Miniseries" and "V - The Final Battle" the aliens spoke with a "reverberating" voice. In the TV series, suddenly they lost their electronic effect and spoke normally. I do not believe that any explanation was given (could've been a side effect of the "red dust" but that's really strecthing it).
Now on SG-1, once again, you have aliens (Go'auld) who spoke with a "reverberating" voice through eight seasons (albeit more menacing than the "Visitors"). Suddenly in season 9, it's discovered, "Oh, we don't really have to talk like that." WTF? I declare Shenanigans on the writer/staff member/etc. who made this decision. I was also reminded of "V" during the ep when a group of Jaffa fly a ship from....the planet with the doomsday weapon on it, land it on the roof of a building on Earth, and storm the offices looking for Ba'al.
Also, Valla gives birth to the woman who will lead the Orai to victory. Five minutes later the kid is about 5 years old, later a teenager, and finally adult. Again, it's just like "V - The Series" with Elizabeth the "Star Child." She grew at an accelerated rate until settling on about the same age as her mother
Yes the Orai are different and there have been a few eps that I actually liked (one of them was when an allegedly "de-powered" prophet almost "force chokes" Beau Bridges), but the whole King Arthur thing has been done to death. At the time of season 9's debut, it seemed that all forms of media were jumping on the Camelot bandwagon. If they wanted a new adversary, I was hoping they would bring back those aliens that commandeered the SGC and had those personal cloaking devices that enabled them to look human. Some did escape through the gate before the others activated their self-destruction devices
I can see people getting tired of the "Sam has a boyfriend"/Stalker Pete thing or the whole "will they, won't they" with Sam and Jack. But keep in mind that I believe there is supposed to be something going on with Daniel and Valla later on so we may have just traded in one alleged relationship for another one
Some would suggest I stop watching the show if I don't like it this much. Unfortunately, one of my curses is that no matter how bad a show gets, I have to watch it to the bitter end (as I have done with "The Facts of Life," "Night Court," and "Beast Machines"), so I'll watch the rest of this final season whenever they show it in....this month?
Sorry for the rant, I'm trying not to be a hater:lol:

All valid points, and i have complained once or twice about the aliens-say-their-gods bad guys, but not nearly "jump the shark" moments.
The second half of Season 10 doesnt start untill March.
