I recently updated to the newest version of Yahoo Messenger and despite disabling it in the startup through MSConfig, it keeps coming back as a startup item. What are the other options of disabling an item at startup?

I notice in the Command line under System Configuration>Startup, the executable has a tag of "-quiet" at the end. I went to the actual program file, but I see no way of editing that line. And as I said, even after editing it with MSConfig, it stops loading, but once I restart the computer the next time, it's there again. Thanks.

Dunno if this will help, but have you tried checking your Start Menu -> Program Files -> Startup folder? There might be a shortcut there.

A few ways.

1) Download StartupCPL, (http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml)which gives you a nice dialog box of your startup files. You can disable/delete them through here pretty easily.

2) Start->Run->type in "msconfig.exe" and go into the Startup Tab and disable them there (not as user friendly as the first suggestion). Seems like you've tried this though.

3) Do as Aberforth suggested by going Start->All Programs->Startup and deleting things in there.

4) Most annoying way would be to go into whatever program is starting up and hunting down the "don't load at Windows startup" option, which the programs generally have.

As far as the -quiet thing goes, I'd imagine you could edit a .ini file or some other kind of initialization file, but to be honest that's just conjecture on my behalf and I'm really not sure.

I'm assuming you did disable/unchecked the option "Automatically start Yahoo Messenger" in the option. Also make sure the Yahoo shortcut isn't in the Start>Programs>Startup folder. If you've done all these and it still launches at startup, the easier way is to not mess with registry but instead uninstall Yahoo Messenger and redownload the newest version and install again. I just installed Yahoo Messenger myself and I was able to disable it from launching at startup only unchecking it in regedit.

Oops I guess I'm just repeating what everybody have said :)
