mrs. shipwreck has been playing this game religiously since she got it for Christmas, but every couple of hours I hear a shriek that I've come to identify as her game freezing up. Looking around at a couple of other forums, it looks like this is a common bug with the game.
Has anyone heard of a non-buggy version of this game out there? Apparently, she has never lost too much progress, but I'm not sure how the save system in this game works, and I'd like to get her a non-freezing version of this game if it is out there.

I think this like Bubble Bobble Revolution and Age of Empires DS is one of those "we'll fix it, really!" type games. If something like Lego Star Wars 2 never got re-released, I seriously doubt Harvest Moon saw a re-release.

Maybe they should have tested the game before releasing it! What a shock! I'm sur ethere are many people who would willingly test it for free. :D

Quality testing for a horrible game means playing a horrible game for quite some time. That's why a crap game tends to remain crap. I'm a bit surprised that Harvest Moon didn't get delayed though to get fixed. The only game remotely like Harvest Moon DS is Animal Crossing and even then, they're two different beasts.

I'm sure someone is willing to test crap games. About a million people bought a PS3, so that's a million testers who like crap games. :D
maybe they fixed it for the european version? They fixed some bugs in the euroepan version of Age of Empire DS (but not all of them)

Good call, I'll have to look into that.

Ha, Mrs. Shipwreck.
Anyway, the game should not free every couple hours. Some carts of this game freeze more frequently than others, and there are some activities in the game that will increase the chance of the game crashing, but even that seems to be random. Your wife seems to have the worst case scenario. Mine has frozen about twice, but in the exact same spot (reading books off the bookshelf seems to make it freeze for me but not always).
My only recommendation is to use both save slots in the game, alternating between them. There are numerous posts in other forums for suggestions on how to avoid freezing as well, but they aren't 100% effective.

Natsume ported the second version of HM: DS, believe it or not the first version had a lot more bugs and more serious ones at that. Natsume just translates the game. Aside from language reprogramming, they don't alter the game in any other way (Marvelous is the actual Japanese developer of the game). Natsume is a very small company, and it was either release the game as is or not at all.
I doubt the European version of the game will be any different from the US one.
