My Live account has been having problems signing on and when I test connection it says IP failed. My wireless is fine and it connected after about an hour of trying last night but now it won't connect again. Tried unplugging the modem and wireless router and restarting 360 a million times but nothing. Anyone else having this problem? I'm using the older original xbox wireless black thing but it's worked for years on both systems.

Is anything else (a computer, another 360, etc.) using the network at the same time? It's possible that your 360 is being kicked off the network by something else over-riding its access.

That happened to me about a week ago and I solved the problem by addressing the 360 its own unique IP. I haven't had an issue since.

Either give your 360 an IP address you know isn't being used on your network and isn't reserved for DHCP, or let the address be assigned automatically by DHCP.

I have the same problem using the Xbox wireless adapter as well .
I think I usually unplug the adapter to fix it .

I hope that works for you .

Thanx everyone.

How do I find an IP that I know is not being used and assign it to my 360? Are you saying to take off the "automatic" in network setup for the IP and do "manual" and enter an IP? Where do I go about finding one?

Where do I go about finding one? Yes. What you need to do is type in your default gateway into a web browser (it should be either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and you'll be able to access your router. You'll need to know the user name and password, usually it's just something like admin / admin. You may need to look up the default username and password for your router. Somewhere it should say what address range is being used for DHCP, make sure you set the 360's address outside the range (my linksys router's DHCP address range is 192.168.1.100-192.168.1.150). Also when putting in the IP address into your 360 you may also need to include the subnet mask and default gateway. Your subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 and you should know your default gateway from getting into your router.

holy shhh complicated. I will give this a try tommorrow thanx. Why has this happened now since automatic IP on the 360 has been fine for so long?

I'm not sure. It's possible that this fix might not work and your 360 wireless adaptor or the LAN port on the 360 is dying or dead.

so try to set the IP outside the range? If my range is from .100-.150 then set it at .151? I have a Linksys also so my #'s are the same as yours.

Yes. DHCP is used to automatically give IP addresses to devices on the network, so if more then one device has the same IP address it will cause serious problems.
Good luck. Hopefully you don't have a bigger problem.
