Started working at the new Bend, Oregon Gamecrazy today. Worked 11 hours, on my feet about 10.6 of those hours. My fucking feet hurt and I'm going to go play some god damn Maximo.

On the very plus side, I get discounts on almost everything :D :D :D

I touched a copy of Mega Man X3 today. I almost wet myself. We've also got motherfucking Steel Battalion and like all this cool shit I didn't think I'd ever see in a store in my town. Holy shit this is cool.

Just need new shoes now.... :( or maybe I should start gellin'

like a felon

I've got friends who work at Sony North which happens to be in Bend. I was out there about a year an a half ago. Nice town. Went to a club out there called I95 (or something like that). Funniest thing in the world seeing a redneck line dance to techno music.

Club 97. I've never been there but I hear it's really shitty. Poopy. Like, from a butt. If that kind of shit really goes down there, I know I'll never set foot in that place.

You're feet will get used to standing.. but if you stand with your feet straight ahead and inline with your shoulders you put alot less pressure on your feet. Good posture also helps alot (it also helps you look presentable to your boss and customers).

I give you about 2 1/2 to 3 months before you get sick of something, be it videogames, people, or the job in general. If you end up enjoying it, then well, good for you. Just don't be surprised if one day you go in and think "I can't believe I thought this was going to be sweet."

If anyone with a retail job thinks the job is sweet after a fwe months.. I'd be amazed. Retail work is horrendous, that's why very few people stay in it for any length of time. Although wholesale sales.. that's decent work.

Feet hurt? Welcome to retail. Customers suck? Welcome to retail.

I've been working for Hell-Mart for the last two and a half years, which was originally supposed to be a year off from College, and then going back. I still have yet to go back to college (although I plan to someday) and I've been stuck in this repetitive because It's hard to quit/leave the joy of parents that spoil me :P

Anyways my feet hurt for MONTHS when I first started retail, and I didn't make the matters any better when I was "bored" on my lunch and 15 minute breaks by walking all over the building. Overtime you will get much more use to it and may even groan at the thought of sitting down all day, cause t hat's what you do when you get home, or atleast I do ;)

Customers are going to be a pain, but you also develop immunity to them. Your gonna get use to hearing a snob here and there and just shrug it off. Eventually It's going to take a pretty desperate/angry customer to irk you, and that's when you need to succumb to the customer and let them do whatever, unless they are totally abusive then you need to get a manager. I get one complaint every four months at work (aka someone goes to a manager) so I know im getting a hang of this customer service job ;)

Anyways I'm off to work myself. Good luck with your gamecrazy job. The closest thing I can get to that job is electronics at Wal-Mart, that's where I work.

I've worked at a Taco Bell for about a year, a few years ago. Feet hurt, job sucked. At least I get to work with games, you know? And I have decent hours (6PM-10:30PM), unlike my previous job (2:30AM-6:30AM). So I actually get to fucking sleep!!

You know how hard it is to sleep during the daytime in summer, here in Bend? Sometimes it gets to be like fucking 90 degrees in my apartment... thats some hot shit when your cats start to get lethargic. So yeah, I see this as a good thing... more sleep, less money spent on games (if I have to buy retail prices... like with the FUCKING COPY OF DISGAEA WE HAVE... god I hope I get to that before anyone else, cos I get 10% off too). Sure, my feet will be hurting and some customers will be dicks... but I've been doing this kind of stuff for years. Taco Bell for a year, ISP customer service for a year and a half, Amazon.com for a few months, a god awful phone company for a month or two.. yeah, I'll be fine, especially with part time hours.

SNES version, and it's $30 I believe. Pretty good price for cart only, I think. Wish I had $30. Anyone want to give me a loan? ;)

What really sucks is one of the guys from Vancouver, WA that came down to help open the store (who is a little weird... he's loud and obnoxious, thinks he's cool.. the works.. if he toned it down a bit, then you know, great, but...), he put it in the hardware case so people will see it more often. It's probably my fault, though.... when I saw him pick it out of the box, I pretty much said, "Holy shit! Mega Man X3! Do you know how RARE that is?"

Oh well. Hope we don't get a retro gamer in here before I get paid...

I work at a Winery (though we do sell other things, like Hummels and Precious Moments), and when I give out samples of our wine 95% of the people come up with the joke "Whats your favorite type of wine?" or something stupid and they think its funny and they are the first people that have ever come up with a joke like that. I give them a fake laugh and tell them what our most popular types are.
Im lucky that most of the time I dont have to give out samples, or else I would go crazy.
Edit: I forgot to say that im 17, which is why people find it so funny to see what kind of wine I like. They also like to ask if Ive been drinking some of the wine on the job. Ha ha ha I really want to get fired.

You only get a 10% discount? Both EB and GS give 15%.

Reality's Fringe
07-03-2004, 04:43 PM
Hey, they're all getting to be the same. 3 years ao the GS discount was 30%, then it was 20% a few scant months ago. Just wait, soon we'll get less of a discount than the people with the Game Informer cards.

10% on new, 20% on used. I wonder if Steel Battalion is classified as hardware, since we don't get discounts on hardware.

I'm sitting here thinking this job is going to suck ass. I'm not so sure I want to be there anymore.. god this sucks, wish I could find a job that I was really stoked to go to.

I remember when my husband used to work at Toys 'r' us. The paychecks were small but the employee discounts were like 20%, which was a minor blessing around Christmas time.

The only problem was that he a hard time coming home with a paycheck. Right now I have a garage full of boxes of action figures that he bought during his stint at Toyrus. We never really bought games from them though because their prices were high, even with the employee discounts. You could go else where and get new games cheaper without any kind of discount.

My husband thought the job was cool for a few months until he caught chicken pox (at 24! WTF?) from some kids in there. He quit after that, afraid he'd catch it again (his family happens to be a rare percentage of the population that hasn't built up an immunity to chicken pox yet). Yes, little kids in retail are nasty.

I really don't get the idea of "carpet bombing" people with wine samples. If a person came in looking for a specific type, like a Cab Sav, then it would make more sense to give them a couple samples... otherwise, it seems almost like setting pearls before swine... do you think the average Schlitz or Pabst Blue ribbon drinker even knows what to look for in a wine? Or some little trendy moron kid who does shots of Stoli just because it's the vodka they actually advertise?

You know how hard it is to sleep during the daytime in summer, here in Bend? Sometimes it gets to be like shaq-fuing 90 degrees in my apartment... thats some hot shit when your cats start to get lethargic. I actually enjoy working second shift because I'm a night person. The reason i dreaded school the most was because of the morning hours. I enjoy staying up till 4am, whether it's playing games or having friends over, or just playing games at other peoples houses. On my two days off I hang out on "normal" hours. But yeah anyways standing on your feet sucks, and your lucky your only part time. I do this forty hours a week and I might be looking into 60 hours a week next year after my trip. lol.

My discount sucks. 10% at Wal-Mart, and when we go Super Center on August 25th It can't be used on groceries, except for the ones all wal-marts carry. It can't be used on clearance either, wtf? For the crappy wages WE get paid we should be given a higher discount. I don't see why places like EB, GS and GC don't offer a higher discount, because in return they would be getting alot of their employees money, the money would go back to them. Those shaq-fuing bastards.

Are you equating Taco Bell to your current retail job in games? I hate to break the news to you but they aint even close. And guess what...I worked at Taco Bell for about 1 1/2 as well so I guess I know what I am talking about. Restaurant work is not nearly the same as retail. At least with food you get to eat every day. Even though pay sucks at TB...you never go hungry. You cant eat a memory card...at least I can't.

You've never eaten a memory card? They're very crunchy. Try one of those new 1019 cube cards. Quite filling, if I do say so myself.

Job is going to work out fine. Yesterday was much better than the first day.
