Yeah...hopefully these will be up "officially" in the next few weeks so that 25% code can be used to its full potential.
AVS is organizing another HD DVD buy day on Transformers Day (10/16), so if you're interested in participating that's something to keep in mind as well. I'm not really into that kind of stuff but I have no problem with others doing it.
....this hobby is REALLY starting to get f'ing expensive.

Tell me about it. I stopped buying games regularly due to my overall spending. But playing the catch up game (Before Best Buy starts sending back some of the older HD DVDs) is almost as bad.

So what's everyone banking on being the Christmas sellers?
I'll just toss in my thoughts
Warner Bros: Harry Potter (Gift set or otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised if there's two commercials. The DVD release and one specifically for high definition formats on certain cable channels. I'm positive Warner is banking on it to sell high definition this Christmas)
Dreamworks/Paramount: Shrek the Third (I was leaning towards Transfomers, but with an October release...I don't know if it'll have the staying power on high definition. Regular DVD probably though)
Universal: Bourne Ultimatum (Not the most family friendly release, but the new Toshiba's handing out Identity, I'm sure it'll sell fairly well - atleast 50,000 first week out)
Speaking of Universal, do they really any new day and date releases to announce outside of Bourne? I don't visit the movie theater often, so I can't really remember anything big this summer that hasn't been announced.

They already announced Knocked Up, Evan Almighty and Chuck & Larry. Those are all pretty big.
And then there is The Kingdom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0431197/) which is rumored for a late December release along with Eastern Promises (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0765443/), Mr. Bean's Holiday and Balls Of Fury.
- edit And early 2008 is going to bring us the "guaranteed slam dunk" American Gangster.

Didn't see a direct answer so I would like to ask 2 questions.
1. These HD-DVD imports from xploitedcinema.com; will they work on a US XBox 360 and a US 360 HD DVD drive?
2. On the F4 one listed above specifically, are all of these deleted scenes/extras the same as what's on the extended edition regular DVD that came out right before Silver Surfer? The color of the packaging and the artwork on it, plus the list of special features, seems to be the same. If it is I will get it but if not I will pass.
Thanks in advance.

There is no region coding on HD DVD. This is another way in which HD DVD is superior over Blu-ray.

I haven't gotten a chance to see the whole movie, just opened it and checked out a few scenes. I have the DVD extended edition and I haven't seen that one either so I don't know how it will differ. I believe that this one is just the standard movie...not sure about what's in the deleted scenes yet.

Triple layer HD DVD approved for production (http://www.screendigest.com/online_services/intelligence/video_and_dvd/updates/vi-060907-ec3/show)
I really don't care about the capacity difference between the two competing formats. If something has to be on two discs so we can get extras, I couldn't care less. Still, this would finally get rid of the annoying talking point about there being such a difference...and yes, give Disney, Fox et al more incentive to go neutral. I hate even saying that because I don't see it happening anytime soon, if ever....especially in Fox's case. But I guess if I didn't mention it someone else would.
I'd honestly rather see them put their effort into the 34 GB disc that has been worked on, as that seems a lot closer to reality and would allow more wiggle room for lossless audio (not that space for that has been a big issue in the past, but it would be nice to have).
Still, looks like good news. Also, everything I've seen has said it should be compatible with all currently available players, including the first-gen ones.

I'm sitting here watching Land of the Dead and it is quite possibly the laziest put together HD DVD ever.
I realize it was also one of the earlier combo discs, but...shit.
Side A contains the HD movie and commentary. Side B contains the SD edition and ALL the extra features. I know some combos have some features on the SD side only, but I've never seen all features on the SD side only (I have heard they do exist though).
Moving on, the usual Universal menu. I know some of their earlier HD DVD releases didn't have clips running through the background (Pitch Black or Riddick springs to mind - I can't remember which one), but at least these releases contained some of the score running through the menu. Land of the Dead contains a Yoda Theme inspired knock-off. I'd swear its a generic Universal filler song that you may hear at the movie theater during the previews.
All of this is disappointing because the transfer is pretty nice. Not reference quality, but a fairly large jump over the SD release.
Not surprisingly, its actually one of the cheapest combos I've seen to date. Best Buy sells it for $30, which is standard for most Universal combos. Usually, the $30 price tag with my wife's discount means I get it for $26. Land, however, was under $23 (amazon.com sells it for $24 which is cheaper than usual as well).

The earlier released combos are all like that. At first they could only do a single layer of 15 GB on the HD DVD side. As a result the HD side was barebones and all the xtras were on the DVD side. Some other ones I can think of are Unleashed and Mummy Returns. Of course, they've been able to do 30 GB on the HD side now, so this is no longer a problem.

Saturday Night Fever has been delayed indefinately, which isn't too surprisingly considering it was going up against 10 other release next week.
And I've noticed some news sites are picking up on the Warner Brothers "list of coming soon's". So I think today we'll see two possible scenarios: 1) Warner just pulls the site till it gets fixed. 2) confirmation these titles are coming within the next six months to a year.
I'd prefer the latter because I was planning on picking up Phantom of the Opera for my wife, but the site has a listing for the Special Edition of it. The only thing I noticed different was the shorter running time on the SE.

NWShttp://img292.imageshack.us/img292/3383/dreamgirlzrh5.jpgNWS
I found a half off coupon for Adam & Eve so I figured why the hell not for $24. It came in a normal HD-DVD case (2 discs though it came with the DVD version) with a foil wrap slipcover. The box says it was filmed in 1080p but it doesn't look like that big of a step up.
I scanned a few scenes and it is a definitive step-up from the upscaled DVD version which was plagued with tons of macroblocking and grain. Not exactly what I was expecting but again for $24 it's not half bad.

In other news....
Warner going HD DVD exclusive? Lets hope so :bouncy:
Warner Bros is considering a "lucrative offer" to back HD DVD exclusively in the high-def disc format war.
That's according to an article in today's Los Angeles Times.
Warner Bros. is now releasing titles in both Blu-ray and HD DVD and the studio has preached that the two-format approach has led to increased sales of such titles as The Departed.
But the surprise departure last month of Steve Nickerson, Warner Home Video's senior vice president for High-Definition, has raised speculation that the studio may be reconsidering its policy. Nickerson was an outspoken booster of the two-format approach in the high-def war.
The Times writes that "Hollywood insiders" say Warner is "mulling over a lucrative offer that could bring such popular titles as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix into the HD DVD camp." The newspaper doesn't say, but the offer is presumably from Toshiba, the leading backer of the HD DVD format.
If Warner were to endorse HD DVD exclusively, it would follow similar exclusive endorsements last month from Paramount and DreamWorks. (Universal is also backing HD DVD exclusively while four major studios are supporting Blu-ray exclusively.)
While a Warner switch would seriously boost HD DVD's chances in the high-def format war, the Times reports that the Blu-ray side is also busy trying to line up exclusive deals with studios and retailers.
Wal-Mart, the newspaper said, had set a mid-August deadline for deciding which format to keep in its stores; it now carries both players. But Toshiba supposedly offered a large promotional budget to support HD DVD sales in a recent meeting at Wal-Mart headquarters.
Wal-Mart would not comment on that, but told the Times that "it would be good for the studios or somebody to make the call (on the high-def format war.)."

Read this. Amir doesn't know anything about it, and is looking into it, it may not be totally true.
Either way, the only people it really hurts is NL. They can choose to charge a premium for HD discs, or force people to buy the SD version. It's their loss.

"Since we sell to independent international distributors, we have to be more sensitive to their release dates than a major studio," Lasorsa added. "But for second-party acquisitions to which we don't have international rights, we will be day-and-date on all three formats."
Basically, so they don't want to sell the region free HD DVDs until their international buyer's theatrical runs are up. Kind sucks, but atleast it won't affet stuff like LOTR.

Weinstein better get off their asses and release this as soon as possible on HD-DVD.
The dead have risen. In a sale that once seemed as slow as a zombie, the Weinstein Co. snapped up North American and Mexican rights to "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead."
While R-rated horror movies didn't perform well at the box office earlier this summer, Weinstein's "Halloween" bucked the trend with a record-breaking Labor Day opening. The latest sequel to Romero's 1968 horror classic "Night of the Living Dead" premiered late Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival and spooked out crowds.
Weinstein paid $2 million to $2.5 million for the rights Tuesday after several offers were considered, including some for video-only distribution. The Weinstein deal includes a theatrical commitment.

Diary Of The Dead is already in the can/completed and I doubt George would have signed another contract that took away creative control from him.

I remember they were saying Land of the Dead was to be a trilogy. I guess not now?
As far as I know, it wasn't. When Romero lectured at Full Sail in Orlando (2006 maybe? I can't remember), he didn't really seem overly happy with Hollywood's hand in Land. He wasn't as abrupt as Savini about ills of Hollywood, but you got the vibe he didn't want to do anything with a large budget/studio support ever again.
To take it slightly off topic, Romero is a work horse. He pulled two shows that night at Full Sail and was still willing to shoot the shit with fans at 4 AM. Not too many 65+ year olds I know could do that.
If only there was less "Um. Do you hate Zack Synder for remaking Dawn?" or "Don't you hate fast moving zombies?" questions at those things. To actually hear him discuss his career about being on the edge of Hollywood is extremely interesting. I only regret I didn't get him to sign my Dead DVDs, video tapes, and copy of Road to Fiddler's Green xbox game. A Dawn of the Dead print though will just have to do.

A brand new documentary which traces Jimi’s remarkable transformation from obscurity to his triumphant U.S. ‘debut’ at the Monterey Festival.
- THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE: LIVE AT MONTEREY: A SECOND LOOK

Shrek The Third 11/13:
'Shrek the Third' will hit HD DVD November 13 day-and-date with the standard-def DVD version, in a feature-packed next-gen edition brimming with exclusive content.
Supplements mirroring the DVD version include nearly a dozen featurettes, lost scenes, a DreamWorks Video Jukebox and theatrical trailers.
Exclusive to the HD DVD are "The Animator's Corner" picture-in-picture commentary featuring storyboards, deleted scene pitches and technical goofs, "My Menu" customizable character menu skins, and web-enabled features to be made available after street date, including a "Shrek's Trivia Track," "Donkey's Digital Coloring Book" and more.
Tech specs may disappoint, however, as DreamWorks has opted to not support high-resolution audio with 'Shrek the Third,' with the disc including a Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround track (1.5mbps) only.

I have players for both formats (360 add-on and PS3, hooray Goozex, hehe), so I can get whichever has the best PQ, but I imagine they will likely be identical. I'm mainly interested in it as portions of the movie were shot locally to me, in my hometown (Hagerstown, MD) and surrounding areas (Antietam Battlefield and Sharpsburg area, which is within 15-20 minutes from my current home), so it will be nice to have a movie with local scenery in HD. If anyone else is curious, here is a list of all the filming locations: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0279111/locations
Warner uses the same VC-1 video encode for the both their BDs and HDs. I think the only exceptions are the first few Warner BD titles like Training day.

Yeah, they are usually really good with that which is why I skip the foreign Amazons most of the time.
Usually 3 for first class, 2 media mail or 5ish for priority.

My Amazon movies haven't even been touched. If the 1-800 number is right, my 360 should be back next week.

Yeah, I can't wait to marathon through them. I've never seen 2001, Eyes Wide Shut and The Shining so I'm in for a real treat.
Good news about them.
Seems like Eyes Wide Shut is going to have both the rated and unrated version on it, A Clockwork Orange is a confirmed 2 disc with the full-length documentary O Lucky Malcolm in HD and Full Metal Jacket has been "remastered in 1080p high definition!"

I've used all three USPS options and trust me you don't have to worry about it getting damaged at all.
My media mail and first class package(s) were sent in a bubble-wrap envelope and then they wrapped a priority envelope around my movies.
Priority is usually sent in a flat rate envelope.
Every time they showed up just fine.

Next is decent. If you like Nic Cage you'll enjoy it more than if you don't. HD DVD picture quality is much more detailed which makes some of the cheap CGI more noticeable.

Final specs are in for the highly-anticipated HD DVD debut of 'Shrek the Third (http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/shrekthethird.html),'
Expanding upon the picture-in-picture video commentary feature found on other HD DVDs, the "Animator's Reel" will not only present an entire alternate version of the film in storyboard form, but it will further utilize the format's HDi technology to offer a "contextual seamless branch" to lost scenes and other content.
'Shrek the Third' is also set to push the boundaries in terms of what's been offered as web-enabled content on previous HD DVD releases. DreamWorks says a number of additional exclusive features will be made available for download the day the disc hits stores, including a full-length subtitle trivia track, a movie guide with files on characters and talent in the film, plus an interactive coloring book feature that allows you to digitally paint your favorite scenes.
As previously announced, the disc will also provide users the ability to customize their own menus based on famous 'Shrek' characters. Once customized, the user's menu will become the default menu for the disc, even after it has been ejected from the player.
Additional features identical to the standard DVD edition of the film are set to include audio commentary, multiple making-of featurettes, deleted scenes sand more.

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the US HD DVD release of Battlestar Galactica (2004) Season 1 on 4th December 2007 priced at $99.98 SRP. With the 12 colonies of man virtually destroyed in the climax of a hundred-year war with the Cylon Empire, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) gather up the few humans left and embark on a journey to find the mythical planet Earth, not realizing that the Cylon robot is no longer a recognizable enemy. Battlestar Galactica is a complete re-imagining of the 1970s series - upping the ante on the action, adventure, and drama that made the original so popular.

Really?
My HD-DVDs queue is doing pretty good. All of the Heroes set is "available" while Knocked Up is long wait.
Anybody use Netflix for HD rentals? Wondering if I should go that route for stuff I want to watch, but not necessarily own...

Whoa...that does sound fucking sweet, first time I got excited over additional features. I'll wait for a Shrek Trilogy HD DVD set though. hopefully it comes out around the same time.
Defintately. I hope they release the whole trilogy on HD DVD at the same time, just like the HP boxset.

I've been with them for almost a year (when I bought the HD DVD 360 add-on) because no one locally rented HD DVD's. So far I've been pretty well satisfied, I've received one disc that wouldn't play all the way through out of 65 rentals.
There is a 'mail' facility here so my disc only take 1 day to send in, and 1 to get a new one (ie. I mail it Monday, they get it Tuesday and send me a new one for Wednesday) so it's quick.

well i guess you could say it is similiar to star trek. A sci fi series set in space, where the humans have alien enemies. A bold captain looking out for his crew. I have never really seen any of the star trek tv shows, so I could be wrong. BSG is a sci fi series that was made in the late 70's early 80's. It was a cheesy show that had a cult following. Sci fi channel redid it a couple of years ago, some of the writters/producers behind the new bionic women were behind bsg. This new redo of the show is a lot more serious darker look at the bsg universe. It is also a lot more character driven. It is an excellent series. If you watch 12 episodes, 2 or 3 of them might be ok to bad shows. The rest are usually top notch.

ohh, if you do get season 1, you should also the mini series that proceeded it. That is why the did the series, as the mini series was so popular. I don't know if the mini series comes on season 1, or if it is even in HD. But if you start watching bsg, start with that. Much higher production value.

without ruining it. keeping it as simple as possible. its set far in the future. man has left earth long ago to travel/explore space. only they keep traveling farther and farther out until eventually earth is just a folktale. the settle other planets, have fleets of warships & space jet-fighters etc.. create robots to do their menial labor. keep improving them until the robots rebel a la terminator. and then thats where the story begins. its got miraculous undertones & is heavily based on conflict & a struggle for survival. thats about all i can say w/o giving away the plot. just a note, if you dont watch it in order it doesnt make much sense at all.

Woah woah woah. Where did you get this? Do you have any sources from the writers that this is true? I think those are your own assumptions. I think that is entirely false. It is never said what the time is in the show, for all we know it's far in the past. That's one of the allures of the show is wondering who these humans are and how they are related to us. Especially with it's religious overtones. Infact, many people speculate that the show will end with them arriving at earth 2,000 years ago and Baltar becomes a prophet or is Jesus. It certainly seems to be setting him up for something like that, especially with his changing appearance.
Nearly all the technology in the show is similar to ours now, except space travel (no laser guns).
I would say the only similarity BSG has with star trek is that it takes place in space. But BSG is much more of a military drama set in space. The reason it's worth watching is the acting and writing are top notch. Especially the writing. The story is extremely interesting and very intense. I've never felt such a sense of dread and hopelessness from a TV show before.
But seriously.... Heroes is a good show, but go watch season 1 of BSG, and then watch an episode of Heroes. It feels like going from Empire Strikes Back to Phantom Menace.
But don't take our word for it, even Cheappy D himself is a big fan, he's always talking about it in his podcast.

I couldn't believe how Conservative some aspects of BSG are. Thank God a friend told me they weren't endorsing hardcore Conservatism. You see some of this in the doctor killing the patients who are anti-traditional medicine and the torture aspect in one episode as well. That shit was really hard for me to stomach but maybe I'll give it another chance based upon what my friend said.

In BSG it is really how you look at it. They don't really push a specific party political message down anyones throats. ie the concentration camps...some looked at the cyclons as the US, invading a country and taking over to make things allegedly better, and the humans as those in iraq, where they used terrorist attacks against there aggressors, and they didn't want to be ruled by someone that isn't them. Other looked at it where as the cyclons as terrorist, with there sleeper cell mentality, they have done there own suicide attacks. As for the torture, it isn't like conservatives are the only ones that do it and I really think you are stretching it with the doctor episodes, both nazi germany, and the USSR both had no problem removing people from society. I think the great thing about this show, is that people with different points of view could look at the same scene differently.

I totally agree with you. And I would have to strongly disagree Sarang01 (who should learn to use spoiler tags).
I know people that stopped watching BSG because they felt they were pushing a liberal agenda a little too much.
That's the beauty of the show, how many ways you can interpret the story.
And for the record though -the writers (much to my dismay) are very much hollywood liberals in real life. So it's very interesting that anyone would accuse BSG of pushing a conservative message. If anything, they are trying to show what liberals perceive to be the horrors of conservativism, imo.
The beauty of BSG is that they address issues that no other show could ever get away with, but they get away with it because it's a SciFi. The show makes you question your beliefs. It makes you see other points of view that you had never considered. It's a real mind fuck. That's what I love about it.
Strang01, you need to keep in mind that the show isn't pushing any agenda. It's holding a mirror up to society, is all. It's showing the good and evil within everyone. The characters are real, they have real feelings and real reactions to things, that are sometimes shocking, stomach wrenching, or disgusting. But that's how real people are. Writers don't just write characters doing things they agree with.

Well as a Vegan as well as someone who believes in Organics and natural medicine some of these Sci-Fi shows bring up fears of mine. For ST TNG for example the idea this will be completely replaced by something artificial that isn't necessarily healthy and may be worse, see replicators and their medicine. <spoiler> In BSG I would agree the Doctor episode is a reflection of what most of society thinks of our kind in the Western world. Rather what the medical industry has brainwashed them to believe. This is with very big help from the Pharmaceutical Industry.</spoiler>

I see. Interesting. Well ok then.
As someone that isn't a Vegan, and believes organic stuff is way too fucking expensive for whatever marginal benefits it gives, let me just say this: What are you going to do when it's discovered that plants are sentient? I've always felt that just because we can't relate to them, doesn't mean they aren't. ;)
Just giving you a hard time (mostly).... But really, you have to accept you are in a small minority and can't get too offended by tv shows catering to the rest of us. Besides, I believe the ship in BSG that had all the gardens for growing stuff got destroyed, so they don't have much choice. I mean really, if you were on one of the ships in that show, and had no garden, what are you going to live on? What will you use for medecine?

Depends what type of Organic product. I totally understand from the point of processed product or dairy and meat but then one must understand everything that goes into creating that to begin with. Now if you're talking Organic Flour, beans and grains I would argue the extra cost is VERY low. I would say on the base level it's Organic vegetables and fruits that have the worst chance of biting you in the ass costwise. To this extent, my suggestion is to grow those as well.
In terms of the garden bit I was thinking of Trek and the replicators. I don't know if I can reasonably answer your question as medicine is idealized on those shows. Here on Earth with bias added one must consider things like Chemotherapy as a treatment to cure people of Cancer and somewhat compromise their Immune System as well. This is so Big Pharma and the hospital can have on their hands a marginally well person who will somewhat reliably come in for treatment of a sickness with Pharmaceutical drugs. Then you have Stem Cells as a way for Big Pharma to treat the big uncurables, be they Genetic or otherwise. The purpose of this is so Pharma can patent it unfathomably somehow and make money off it. This is obviously done since a naturally occuring plant from the Rainforest you can't patent and make money off of.
I would argue these Sci-Fi shows portraying medicine do it in a bright light. On the other hand I am more cynical. I respect and recognize the idea of "First do no harm." but our medical industry has forgotten that. Now to make myself clear I am NOT saying that the Physicians don't believe in that.
Seeing more Sci-Fi shows with a Green touch would be very welcome, providing a counter balance. As far as I know Voyager and Enterprise do it though I think there was one show that really focused on it though the name escapes me. Well, it does moreso than the former two.

I'd like to go with an LCD just because the image seems to be better on those or at least the ones I saw.
Also I've read about alot of issues on the bigger DLPs like image "smiling", color wheels being fucked up and other scary things.
Although if you have a suggestion, I'd be willing to listen to it.

Best I could find for a brand name TV (don't want any of these generic offbrands if I'm paying this much for one) is a 32" 720P Toshiba for $720 shipped. Which is why I kind of figured that for only $280 I might as well go from the 37 1080p especially if I can talk the people down a bit at Sam's.

Also, I have 1080p and I'll admit that it is nice to have, but the picture is not THAT much different in 1080i. I would look into DLP personally, more bang for your buck (if you want a bigger TV).

Shit how many newer Universal shows would fit the HD DVD crowd. "Eureka" seems to be right down their alley. Fuck only old catalogs and new release movies. Instead of trying to put out so many extra movies this year with Universal's cut and paste bullshit they should've lessened it. Universal focusing on their strengths and HELPING HD DVD by proxy would be releasing "Monk", "House", "The 4400"(IF Universal), "Eureka", "The Dead Zone", "Journeyman"(show seems ok so far), etc. It amazes me Ken Graffeo doesn't see the potential here or not enough money is being paid for Universal to put their real WEIGHT behind it.

How could you forget "Psych"? I'd buy that on HD DVD in a heartbeat!

I like eureka and all, but was it a big seller on the dvd side of things? I doubt it, as it had mediocre numbers for sci fi channel to begin with. In all reality, if it didn't sell on dvd, why would they put it on hd dvd.

I'm sure they'll all show up over time. Heroes by itself got 2 acquaintances to go HD DVD.
Sopranos is great on HD DVD too. very crisp vid & audio. Seems the newer seasons are coming out before the older. I can only assume that's because it's harder to master the older material.

I didn't mention Burn because it's FOX.
Ryan you realize I've stopped buying most shows I'm interested in on DVD because I know they've been shot in HD or film. I KNOW they're going to double dip me so why buy the DVD's, because if enough of us it might happen? No thanks, I don't feel like getting fucked with a double dip.
How about we send request letters and show we're willing and desperately want some of these shows on HD DVD but won't let them double dip us for this to happen earlier either?
Seriously most of the stuff I want on HD DVD no one is offering or in the case of "Weeds" Season 1 they're halfassing. I'm interested in some premium channel product, "Epitafios" in HD, "Dead Like Me", "Huff" and "Weeds". Past that you have the WB stuff like "Smallville" and "Supernatural". Also I want"Popular" in HD, "Angel" or "Buffy" as well if Weedon had it shot on film or HD. Now you have Universal shows like "House" and "Eureka" and maybe "Monk".
The shows I want desperately are foreign one's like "One Percent Of Anything" and "Delightful Girl Choon Hyang". Also "Cheer Dance" would be great as well.

I totally agree with you, but I highly doubt the avg consumer knows this. We are posting on a message board about HD DVD's. My brother has the 360 hd dvd add on, he doesn't post on message boards of any kind. If he wanted eureka on some format, and he walks into a big box store, he would get the version available. I just don't think there is much of an audience for a show like eureka for HD DVD format on the store shelves. Burn notice and psych both had much higher ratings so there is probably a bigger potential audience for it on HD DVD.
Are sci fi shows shot in HD. I know bsg is coming out in hd dvd format, and has aired on the universal hd channel. But I have never seen any other sci fi shows in hd format on tv.

Well I hear BSG is being presented in 480p on Universal HD but has been shot on 720p. Personally I'd like to know what idiot doesn't shoot these shows on 35 mm. instead. I want my shows at 4000x2000 if possible. Only if they can't afford 35 mm. film and have a choice between HD and VHS then HD. I mean even if the budget is threadbare and they might be able to do it, do it because it will pay off in the double dipping. I can't wait till 2080p is an option, then I'll be happy because film res. will be standard.

the guy who penned the seires is a member of fuse entertainment which is on the fox lot. that doesnt mean fox owns rights to the series, it just means he (Mikkel Bondesen (http://www.variety.com/profiles/people/main/40020/Mikkel%20Bondesen.html?dataSet=1)) wanted his own production studio to shoot it. USA ordered & greenlit the series; & that usually means they own distribution rights.

Shooting digitally and on HD has other much bigger benefits, such as cost in production. Keeping things digital from end to end saves a lot of money and time.
I disagree with you however, unless we expect screens as big as the movie theater, I think resolution is just about fine as it is. I'd rather see other advances such as higher framerate before higher resolutions. I think most people will notice 90 fps more than 2048p.

Considering I plan on getting an SED at a 100" size it matters to me. And don't mention to me projectors, they're shit picture quality wise. I believe fixed displays will have always sharper pictures though.

I can't believe you just said that. Wow. What was the last projector you saw? At school science class? My projector throws out a sharper more vibrant image than any of my friends HD sets. That includes my uncles $7,000 70" Toshiba dlp, and my friends 70" Bravia. And my screen is only 100".
So you are essentially saying digital cinemas can't compete with the picture quality of fixed pixel set-tops?
Well I can see your logic is way out there, with comments like that, but I will just say that 1080p is more than enough resolution all the way up to 120-130". But it really depends on how close you plan to sit as well.

SED is pretty much dead in the water IMO.

After all of Sony's BS about "Target choosing Blu-Ray over HD DVD"...Target now has the Venturer HD DVD player up for preorder through Target.com. The downside is that the player was expected to be sold at $199.99 though the $249.99 tag could be a placeholder price.
