Price at release: $60
Price currently: $20 (TRU)
CAGvalue: $$$$ (each $=$10)
Synopsis: It's like the good old days where TR didn't suck.
I know it's 8 months old, but I just got it. While I haven't finished playing Tomb Raider Legend yet, I can tell you it is a steal at $20. Easily worth $40, possibly more, but we'll call it a $40 game for right now. The puzzles are back and as good as I remember (TR on PS). I never got into the series due to the shooting aspect of it, but it seems it's very easy to lock-on to enemies and you don't die as easily as I may (or may not) remember. There are eight levels in all, not including a very impressive Croft Manor bonus 'level.' Everything is complex enough that you might need a walkthrough, but not so hard as to severely frustrate you. Checkpoints are dispersed in fair distances, and usually occur right before you might fail a challenge or come upon enemies. That's very handy, because there are quite a few times where you will miss a ledge or jump into the abyss because you didn't have the camera in the right position. Once you know how that works, you usually don't have too many problems.
One thing I didn't like at first were the interactive cut-scenes. You'll have to push three specific buttons at specific times to get out of the danger the cut-scene represents. Now that I think about it, it's a nice touch. A good way to present danger without making you give up control of the character.
+Pretty good controls, aside from a couple of instances
+Voice acting is great
+Great visuals
+Deep levels, great story (flashbacks included)
+Blows the last few games out of the water
+Time trial mode offers replay value
-Initial price point - should have been $50
-Grenade action could use some work
-Driving missions can go on forever if you don't kill everyone
-Absolutely no online mode
Conclusion: At $20, there is no reason not to buy it, if even just for the achievements.
