I think it's the packrat in me that's drawn to games where you collect things...

Anyhow, I know there are a lot more out there than the typical Pokemon, Animal Crossing, etc. I'd been interested to hear other games you guys have enjoyed that have a collecting element... either DS or GBA... and your opinions of them

Anyone?

I collect what I love,... Atlus games have a special place in my heart. For GBA, Ninja 5.0 I think is my rarest still sealed I think.

My sealed Panzer Dragoon Saga, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Alien vs Predator on the Jaguar are my favorite games, so they sit at the echelon. Even if they were lousy games, they are still some of the rarest games to be sealed, and worth quite a bit.

I think he means games where collecting is part of the playing experiece.

Some card games like Lost Kingdom and Culdecept have a collecting aspect that is alright.

Probably my favorite games like this are the Dark Cloud series. They both have a ton of weapons and items to create and find that can take you a long time to complete.

Right, though I'm a she ;) I have never been able to get into the card types of games... but I will definitely have to look into the Dark Cloud games... the "items to create" bit makes it sound especially intriguing! Thanks! :)

Sorry for the gender mixup. Dark Cloud 2 is better for the item creation. Basically you take photos of mundane things around the world and then use the photos together to create new things.

Looking at my shelf, the DS Castlevania's have some collection in them, the first one collecting souls (the last GBA one also had this), and in the second they seem to record which items you have gotten. Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime has quite a bit of things to collect and combine to add to your tank.

I like collecting the toys and games in two of the Wario Ware games, Twisted and Touched.

A few things. Mario Party Advanced has a "gadget" collecting aspect to it. Contact has item collecting. Super Princess Peach has the puzzle collecting elements. Monster Hunter is another good collecting game (though it's a PS1/2 game).

agree on the castlevania games and contact as having stuff to collect. Lost in Blue also has you going around picking stuff up. It's generally needed for consumption or for making other things (weapons, traps, stuff for the cave) but there's a good bit of the same stuff that you collect every day. Incidentally, one of my favorite ds games also.

yeah, rocket slime was badass, or the dragon quest game for ps2 both have the alchemy pot so collecting things is a pretty big part of the game. I cant really think of any others that I really like off the top of my head...

The Banjo games by Rare are good. The latest one is Grunty's Revenge on GBA (with 2 others on N64). Hopefully we get a Banjo 3.

Atelier Iris has a heavy collection aspect...
oh you specified DS or GBA...
the Pokemon games are gotta catch em all - obviously
all Castlevania games have some sort of collecting aspect. Especially the first DS one and the last GBA titles. They have you collecting enemy souls which is oddly addicting and time consuming.

Demi Kids also had alot of critter collectin going on, but wasnt as good as others in the genre. Worth a look though if all other options are exhausted.

Ignore Dark Cloud 1, its painful. Opt for Dark Cloud 2 instead! Oh, they are PS2 games by the way.

As for DS/GBA:

Castlevania (the lastest 5, Circle of the Moon( GBA), Harmony of Dissonance (GBA) Aria of Sorrow (GBA), Dawn of Sorrow (DS), Portrait of Ruin (DS): These are action/platformers that have you jumping around slashing and whipping zombies, skeletons, demons, and the like. Very fun and a hell of a lot of items/soulsj/etc. to collect

Mario 64 (DS): There is only one thing to collect really, and that is stars, but there is something like 140 to collect and it takes quite a while to do it.

Kirby: Canvas Curse (DS): This is a really really fun game that has a lot of different line designs and characters to unlock if you collect a bunch of the medals.

Nintendogs (DS): There is a crapload of different toys, apartment designs, etc. to collect in this game. You'll probably get tired of it though

Feel the Magic (DS): It takes some work but you can unlock all kinds of outfit and hairstyle designs for your in-game love interest.

There are probably many more, but thats all I can think of now

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow has a lot of souls to collect, it took me a long time to collect them all.

Kirby Squeak Squad: you collect 120 treasures throughout the game.

Oh, in that case, my favorite collection games were:

Super Smash Bros. Melee
Animal Crossing
Ultimate Muscle
Final Fantasy 9
RType Final

and sadly, I was a collection freak in World of Warcraft, having every recipe for every trade I could get... paying hundreds of gold on cooking, etc... :(

Skies of Arcadia, LoZ: Windwaker and Phantom Dust were pretty fun to collect in too :)

EDIT: DAMN IT!! I need to learn to read :(

DS and GBA? ok :(

Castlevania.... yeah yeah
Nintendogs
Meteos
Animal Crossing
Harvest Moon
Metroids... the map area, energy tanks and missiles :) of course

Might I suggest a Hamtaro game? The one my girlfriend always played is called "Ham-Ham Heartbreak." There is always a ton of collecting involved, and they are surprisingly fun.

Oh yeah, the Hamtaro games are apparently addictive to females, I have a friend that plays them constantly. I played a bit and its pretty good quality. I recommend Ham Ham Heartbreak and Rainbow Rescue. It is also the most ridiculously cute game you will ever play. Nasuea inducingly cute.

Another good one would be Klonoa: Empire of Dreams or Klonoa 2: Dream Champ Tournament. Great puzzle/platformers with stuff to collect. Also ridiculously cute.

New Super Mario Bros. has a collecting aspect in it as well. It took me a lot of effort to find all of the star coins (maybe that's just because I'm not that great at the game though). All in all, it's an incredible game, and although the main game was fairly short, I spent a lot of time collecting the star coins.

Also, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap is good for collecting items. I haven't played it in a while, but I remember having a great time trying to collect everything in that game. Maybe I'm just a huge Zelda freak, but it absorbed a lot of my free time when it first came out.

I know some people didn't enjoy Super Mario 64 DS' control scheme, but I actually thought it was a great game (especially since I never really played it on the N64 back in the day). Collecting all of the stars is fun, and isn't an easy task.
