Sign me up for 40 copies please.

Seriously though, where did this come from?!?! Seems like an awful lot of work to just be someone's little home project. Could it be a mod of something else? The little display thingie on the proton pack's handle looks kinda like a big gun I've seen somewhere else...but I can't place it.

A Wii version with a Proton Pack Wii remote addon, please.

Seriosuly, this would be like the greatest game ever for the 8 year old in me. Who am I kidding, the 8 year old in me is out more than the 24 year old. ;)

you know...the idea of a Ghostbusters games sounds surprising good to me.

I think it works better than Jaws Unleashed.

My god. I'd kill kittens for this game! Ugly kittens, that is.

Please, somebody make this game possible. Especially for the Wii.

What's with the logo? Do they not have the rights to it yet?

From the small amount shown, this looks fantastic! The first gameplay movie looks a bit bland though.. but I'll keep my hopes up!

This definitely needs 4 player co-op, though.

My god, that would be great. Four 25-30 yr olds, four controllers, many beers, and some great times!!

I'd like to know the story behind these also - while the first video shows gameplay that appears about as exciting as your average James Bond title, it does show promise - that's not a bad place to start.

joystiq picked up the story and i'd imagine gamespot will cover it in a "rumor control" article once they hear about it. then we might have some indication as to what these videos actually are and where they came from.

Anyone else thinking, after this has settled, that an Elebits-boss style gameplay as opposed to Gears of War style would fit the feel of Ghostbusters better?

Seems like hunt-them-down and wear-them-out would be more true to the concept from the movies vs the running around shooting everything.

it does have great potential , as someone said earlier , the proton gun does seem familar , and i cant place it either?? What gave it away , is the way the character is holding it???

I believe you mean: "Whoa-oh-oh-OH! ......nice shootin', Tex."

I would buy a Wii to play this game with that controller.....to crank up the sound and hear the proton pack charge up....

Then again, I would prefer to play it with nice graphics, so I guess the Wii wouldn't be the best platform to support such a title.

I was reminded a lot of Ghostbusters when I played Elebits, so I'd definitely prefer something more like Elebits than Gears of War. (Is there something unique about Gears of War? I haven't played it or read reviews, so my totally uneducated impression is that it's a well-done third/first person shooter.) I'd love for this to be on the Wii and with multiplayer.

Ghostbusters on the Wii would rule. First the wiimote is that black thing with the blinky red lights that locates the ghosts. It can vibrate and make eerie noises. Then when you find the ghost you pull out your proton gun the way you draw your sword in zelda and then use the wiimote to blasts the ghost. The nunchuck can be used to throw out and deploy the containment box dealy...

Wii-mote: moving proton pack
B Button: shooting proton pack
Analog: movement
Z Button: launch trap

also a ghostbuster needs to be killed off.

Two days ago, Slovenian video game developer, Zootfly, sneak-released a couple of videos onto YouTube, sans explaination - best guess is that they amount to them expressing an interest in a Ghostbusters game (as they featured concept art in a company precis - see below for the art.)

Currently, as PC understands it, nobody holds the licence to make a GB game, so it’s not known if this is some pre-hype before pursuing the license or a publisher, evidence that they just aquired the licence, or are just doing it to show off their love of GB.

Whatever the case, it’s pretty darn sweet. Big thanks to Kingpin, Robert Knippels, and the gang at the GB message boards for spotting this

They also have a concept image you can check out if you click on the link.

I would like one based on the cartoon characters rather than the movie characters. Didn't like the movies but loved the Saturday cartoon.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd on the cover wouldn't sell video games.

Very true. Sony Pictures and SCE are two different brances of the company and Sony Pictures isn't forced to sell game licenses to SCE.

No Spiderman is the property of Marvel Comics, which is licensed to Sony. While Activision held the game license.

Marvel might own Spider-man but that doesn't mean he or any of the characters are all lumped in together.

They can break it down into groups or single characters and dish them out to different companies if they like. "Here, you make an X-men game" and "Okay, you can do a Spider-man game" and so on.

The funny thing is that I have played and beaten two Ghostbuster games that I can think of. There was the one for the Sega Master System based off of the first movie. Then there was the side scrolling Ghostbusters game that came out for Genesis that had nothing to do with either movies or the cartoon. Anyone else remember these titles?

According to chud.com (and probably countless other sites by now), it's a sort of sly cross-promotion for ZootFly's TimeO game, which would appear to use the same mechanics. So it's sort of an in-house, promotional pre-mod, if you will.

On one hand, I hope it lights a fire under some rights-owning asses, but on the other hand, it saddens me to see so many people ec(toplasmic)static about what they've seen. I know it's just conceptual footage, but it seems so dour and humorless. Maybe that would change with the rights being acquired. Either way, comments all over suggest that kids (that probably haven't actually watched the film...or liked everything but the humor) prefer this sort of Ghost Recon (ahem) game. And that's the worst part of the whole story, even if it's entirely expected.

This isn't about putting shape-shifting robots into a live action film. If you make a Ghostbusters game, you'd better fuckin' keep the spirit (rimshot) of the franchise included. To use another Bill Murray film quote from the early-'80s, "And that's the truth...Ruth!!"

I wonder if the original folks invovled in the movies would want to have a hand in crafting a story for a possible game.

01-16-2007, 08:40 PM
Actually, I'm getting senile in my old age. I meant to quote Murray's "And that's a fact, Jack!" The "Ruth" quote is from Sam "The Man" Jackson.

A lot of you may want whatever Ghostbusters game you can get, but trust me, if they crapped out some focus-grouped-to-death compromise of the premise of the movies and what 'the kids' like these days, you'd be very, very sorry. I could do with soundalikes doing the voicework, but never a straight-faced take on one of the greatest adventure-comedies ever.
