View Full Version : Most annoying video game enemies?

I've been playing some of the older Castlevania games, and these damn Medusa Heads are incredibly annoying.
Really now, does any game have any enemies more annoying than these?

The monkeys in Gears of War suck all kinds of ass, ecspecially the exploding ones.

Those roadrunner things on Wood Man's stage in Mega Man 2.
That escort mission in Zelda: Twilight Princess is a bitch and a half. Thats kinduva collection of enemies, coming together to form one massive suckfest. I'm about to just give up and have someone else beat it for me.
More traditionally, I hated those big green things in the original Resident Evil. (I think they were called Hunters).
edit. Yeah, these things:

Tonberries.
Hit them, and they wave a lantern at you.
Let them get too close, and they "doink" you with a spoon-sized knife, and you DIE.

How are The Flood annoying? The parasites go down easily with a rapid-fire weapon, and the combat forms are so shotgunnable. Now, the carriers...
Anyway! My most annoying? Chain Chomps from Mario 3 were pretty bad, with their random movement. Headcrabs are quite annoying, as they have the habit of popping up after a good ten minutes of puzzle-solving and platform jumping after you've dropped your guard. A lot of Metroid Echoes enemies were annoying, as they were just too damn durable. But the most annoying enemies come in the end of KotOR I. Curse you, infinite respawn!

Playing Megaman 2 this morning reminds me of this.
The most annoying enemies are any that fly at you just higher than you can jump and shoot and then come strait down on your head while your cant-shoot-up stupid ass is stuck against a wall waiting for a brick to appear.
O, and the teleporting wizard from Super Mario world that shoots the playstation buttons at you.

ARCHERS.
In nearly any hack 'n slash/3D action game where you don't have an effective long range attack, archers PISS ME OFF.
The best examples I can think of is Drakengard 1 & 2. I loved both games, but there were instances where you could mow down a whole army on foot or using the dragon, just to be destroyed in like 30 seconds by 3-5 archers!
Also, Medusa heads and the Flood.

Not neccesarily an enem, but the frickin' rotating spike towers in God of War. I've never been so pissed at a game.
Also, the green/black ninjas in Ninja Gaiden (xbox) with the exploding shruiken. I also hated the machine-gunners in the original NES Ninja Gaiden.
I totally was thinking Medusa Heads as soon as I saw the title of the thread.
Although, I do remember those Ninja Gaiden eagles were a PITA too, but I play a lot more Castlevania and the heads are always a nuisance.
Wraiths in Oblivion are up high on my list too.

The most annoying enimies I could think of is any man like creature in Zelda II.
Horse Head
Skelengtons
Kings Knights
Dark Link.
Stalfos doubled headed Horse man
Anything that can sheild and puts up a fight in a tight spot. I would be in a corner for hours trying to get threw.
The only other time this occured would be Sparkster where you would have to fight your rival in a Boxing Robot and cling together at times where mostly you or the oppenent would die.

Imps in the original Final Fantasy. Nothing pisses me off more than walking to some town only to be attacked by nine of them. You receive next to no experience or money, thus making the battle a complete waste of time.

I doubt many of you endured Bloodrayne 2 like I did, but if you did, you might remember how annoying the ninja vampire chicks that show up in the park level were. You have to grab them from behind and whip them into the blades of downed helicopter. After dying about 25 times trying to get past this level, I finally enabled a health cheat so that I could continue on.
BTW there's also a cheat that's supposed to make Rayne more jiggly. Of course I tried it in the interest of science but didn't really notice any difference.

Malboros from the Final Fantasy Series...
What, you don't like getting hit with the Bad Breath attack and then being completely unable to do a damn thing as those stupid things finish you off, slowly but surely?
Me either.
Ran into them for the first time in FFIV Advance today, and almost cursed audibly (which would have been bad, since I was in my office).
First one that came to mind for me was Seymour in FFX, because I got to the point where I'd see him show up and think, "Fuck, I've gotta fight this idiot AND listen to that fucking annoying voice again?!?"

Original Zelda: Likelikes, Pols Voice, Shadow Hands (whatever the things are that send you to the front of the dungeon)
Any battle in Smash Bros Melee where you have the difficulty set to very hard, and you have to do a team battle, with a totally worthless CPU teammate. Allstar mode somewhat counts into this as well, when you have to fight 2 and 3 enemies at once. In all cases, you get surrounded and just get pinballed back and forth.

I think those guys are called Floor Masters. Or Wall Masters. One of those two.

You can trick the CPU into killing itself quite well on most levels. Yoshi's level is particularly good for this - just hang out in the middle and dodge a lot. Enemies should break right through the floor and into the abyss.
However, one has no such luck in the Pikachu + Pichu Event Battle. That's a battle that made me HULK SMASH!!! my speakers.

Aaahhh, hahahaha, I remember running into the first one on the first level of SMB 3.
I was like....whoops:roll:
I also second the vote on Angry Sun for SMB 3 as well. There were 3 ways for me to avoid it, one was use a star on the level and pop it out of the sky, use the P feather so I could just fly through the level, or just dash like mad ^^. I once killed it by sliding =D, did it by mistake too :bouncy:

That sonnuva bitch Sun. He's usually a minor annoyance, but on one of the last levels, he is absolutely unavoidable. You have to jump across a huge chasm by hopping from musical note to musical note. The notes/blocks act as trampolines, so you're flying all over the place, and you're supposed to somehow land on a tiny square while avoiding the friggin' Sun. After losing a number of lives (and a Hammer Suit), I just flew over him with a PWing.
You know, I think this deserves discussion: what the hell do you call all those things? What do you call the PWings/Feathers? The enemy Sun? Those clam-things that you can jump on with Kuribo's Shoe? The big squinty-eyed fish? The wee-turtles (Save me from the wee-turtles!) with the blue shells?

The thing was small, darted around randomly, was almost impossible to hit, and would just sit there taking 1 point off of your life until you managed a lucky shot.

I am currently stuck at the beginning of act 3 thanks to the huge group of them near the factory entrance...I wasn't thinking they would be a problem since they certainly weren't very difficult in casual, so I didn't put much thought into which weapon to keep at the end of act 2, but now I really wish I had the shotgun and not the longshot.

The last boss in Clock Tower 3 is a total nightmare.
The game's controls aren't great, the camera angles are wonky, so most of the boss battles were easy to alleviate frustration.
Then they amp the difficulty to "near impossible" for the final boss and it ruins the game, because the last thing you remember before quitting in frustration is how much the controls sucked and how you will never play another crock tower game again.
