Awsome thanks! If this thing doesnt retain or go up in value I am NEVER buying a collectors edition again. Iv been burned on everything iv bought recently and im only buying this for collectors value(not for sale value but just to own a cool RPG extra)so it again will be extreamly dissapointing to see this be another thing that within a month is selling for $20 less.

Thanks OP! Been waiting to grab one when they came in FedEx to my Target, but either they got put out last night on a late shipment (no idea why it would happen) or they are still not there. Ordered one from BB just in case. =)

Yeah, I knew it's worth something, but I just bought it out of impulse. And it appears that the markup is going down.

Ya after listing fees and the other expenses you might make $2 or $3 selling this on ebay at this point. Im not concerned with selling this for $200 or anything(though that would make it tempting). I just want it to unlike recent things like the KH2 guide and FFXII Guide/CE game actually be worth SOMETHING making it a good collectors item.

From your experience, is BB.com a bit slow with sending the email order confirmations?
I'm not used to such a delay, though I am sure they are getting hammered. Even so, the Add to Cart button has been there for an 1 - 2 hours, so they must have a good deal of stock.

Something has to be weird since they are still in stock. Either it's not as limited we though, or we might be getting a lot of cancellations.

hehe again why I posted here saying I was worried. Damn nice collection but if they print 3 million of these its worthless.

I'm tempted to order another one for profit, but the fact that it's still there worries me as well.
That, and my Amazon copy still hasn't arrived yet (Thursday, apparently), so a backup would be nice...
EDIT: A quick look at Ebay seems to indicate that the profit factor isn't really happening right now. I'll pass on this one.

Not surprising it's not very profitable right on ebay now, they're still in stores. Like the original CE, Blizz has stated that they will never reprint it though, so it is almost certain to increase in value as time goes on.
I've seen the original CEs being sold on amazon for several hundred, although I'm sure they werent produced in the same quantity as this CE. Either way, I have one copy for myself, not really out for profit on these :)

Well take it as you will since its just a quote from someone on gamefaqs. Someone there just said that blizzard commented that the CE would run 10% total of the first shipment of the BC and then thats it, they will not produce them again. This doesnt mean it will happan since again companies have recently shown its very profitable to them even if annoying to us to call something LE/CE but then release shitloads of them.
Hopefully this is correct though. Even if blizzard released like 4 million copies of the BC 10% of that isnt enough to drive value down.
I think im going to keep my order and hold on to this taking the risk. One of them I take HAS to pay off hehe.

Exactly.
You people need to look at long term value on this one.
Every copy of the CE sold is one that will never be sold again since the thing has 0 resale value once you open it up and use it.
If this never happens, it goes back to the store. Win / Win!

Again, I think all of us ARE thinking long term value and realizing right now there are alot of copies of this around. However that doesnt gurantee that the company wont put out more or that the print run isnt bigger then we though. Recently we have seen lots of rereleases of games like Rez and Gitaroo Man which ruined value and we have seen lots of things release as Limited or Collectors items and be worth nothing. Look up KH, Castlevania or FF's recent releases....they are worth jack. The PS3 is also on peoples minds right now.
Again im betting this will be worth something in the long run. However, its not a gurantee and I think all of us have a right to be nervous after how much collectors and ebayers alike have been getting burned.
And how are you going to take it back to the store when it will take a few months atleast to really determine if it will retain/grow in value?
Roufuss
01-17-2007, 01:59 PM
If you're buying this for a forever sort of long term collector's value, then that's retarded.
This thing will be worthless the day Blizzard makes a World of Warcraft 2 and nobody plays WoW anymore... people are getting it mostly for the in-game pet. Chances are the artbook will be available seperately to buy in a few months (ala the original WoW CE). This thing isn't timeless like the MGS 3 LE.
They won't reprint the CE for Burning Crusade, ever. They never did for the original WoW, and if they did, I think half of that 8 million player base would rush out to buy that. And Blizzard LOOOOOOOOVES $$$ so if they haven't reprinted it yet, they never will. Same with this one.
The CE is awesome if you're a WoW fan though.
I just picked up one through BB.com to make back up the costs of my original one.

Never posted here before so be nice :)
WoW is probably going to be around for at least a few more expansions if not more. To my knowledge Blizzard has never reprinted any of thier collector's editions.
When the next expansion rolls around there will not be very many Burning crusade Ce's in circulation anymore, so the prices may be like what we are seeing on the CE's for the original game.

And to think I passed on getting this because I got burned on the Warcraft 3 Collectors Edition. Now don't get me wrong, I bought it to play it. But when 2 years later when I still saw the Warcraft 3 CE available for 29.99, that put me off.

The first one isn't indicative of value, even though, historical data is all we have to work with here. Unfortunately, the original probably had far less prints, and many people did not anticipate that the value would explode like it did. Now, people who wouldn't normal buy this game to resell (or at all) are in the loop, which causes the game value to plummet like a rock (at least initially).
For reselling purposes, there will be several huge buyers of this title, which will keep the value down in the future because those large buyers have so many extra copies lying around. Better information will lead to less or no profit margins because the market for this game has become more efficient.
The people who want to play this should definitely buy it. Price speculators beware of the long term time horizon (at least 6 months) or a negative return on their investment.

eh the eBay market of these things dropped to nothing, from $200+ to $100+ on launch day, and now its going at +$10 over retail =) gotta love those people who camped to make a "profit"

This has become a huge problem, recently.
I actually see where you're coming from. Nobody was buying the original WoW CE in droves to resell it, but now everyone has Ebay fever with this new one.
I might actually just cancel my order, I've got one copy, that's good enough for me. I didn't think about the people on SD who are buying 20 + of the game at a time. But I also want to keep my order in case this is an error and Best Buy gives me a $5 coupon.

There seem a good number of them going on ebay now for less than retail, even half, within just minutes to go. I guess the increased supply has glutted the market and too many folks elected to do 1 day auctions for a quick buck.

Not sure about the error part, I'm pretty sure they have an "online-only" stock that they may have held for today for whatever reason.
However, I agree with you on the secondary market BS--how many out there are buying multiple copies in hopes of repeating the original WoW CE's resale success? STill, IMO, it's too early to tell what's going to happen. The original CE took a little time to heat up because it was somewhat of an unknown. It will be a couple of months maybe before we find out how much in demand this is really going to be. And the secondary market did claim the original CE in the end regardless...

Not even close.
Once this is opened and the cd key used, it's not resellable, so eventually the number of copies on Ebay that are brand new will be very very very small.

I love the way people in this topic on both sides are acting like what they have to say is a fact. There is no history of things like this retaining value....nor is there one of loosing it. In this case it really seems a crap shoot. End of story.

Im just going to take it as a sign. If it backorders it for me then this was a bad investment, if it doesnt then awsome im getting a CE that is going to retain value. And hey, my fiancee just called and said she got a $300 a month raise and a promotion so I can afford this! WHOOO

I doubt they'll ever get anymore in, so that's the end of that. It'll linger in backorder hell until they cancel it for us.
It being backordered dosen't mean they'll ever get anymore in, so it's not a sign of anything. From numerous dealings at BB.com I know this one to be true =/

I question its Ebay value as being nothing to be honest. The first was does insanely well. Remember, this is a one of kind collectors edition for one of the worlds most popular games. New people will pick it up and become addicted each day, so 2 months down the road when new people become obsessed with this game they will not have been able to get a Collectors edition because they werent a fan then. So there will awalys be a demand for something that is extremely limited. Dont be suprised if these are worth 200 again soon. Heck, store one on the shelf for 2 years, if WOW keeps growing which it probabyl will, I bet you can get 400. Then again the value of the first game was that it was a FULL game, this is just an add on. Dnno, if you want to sell, wait a month or a couple weeks until this overload on ebay goes down. Teh value can only go up, this isnt PS3 or Wii.
Mine's says "Status: 1 item(s) - Order in process of being fulfilled; Usually ships in 0 - 1 days.", so I guess I'm set. This was actually not that bad a deal because they only charged a flat $2.49 shipping/handling fee and this CE set is over 6lbs. GS.com wanted to charge me about $15 for shipping/handling.
So now I can actually open my CE this time as this will supplement my amazon pre-order.

Got mine today and all I can say is wow....I thought the box would be HALF this size. It really makes me want to open it and see whats inside but I know that would ruin both the collectors value and resale value....gah! *turns his head and stares at the box* Im deffintly going to have to put this right back in the UPS box and put it in the basement to forget about for awhile or im going to end up opening it.
Edit - Thankfully its in good condition too. Corners have some damage but its very small damage hardly noticable on first look. Was annoyed to see yet another company ship loose like that...but o well alls well that ends well.
