Just keep in mind people, that if you use 3rd Party Component Cables, and your PS3 dies out... it voids the warranty and you can only renew the warranty for $150.00 US dollars.
Supposedly, it's always been that way? Wow, talk about retarded.

I believe it, don't console manufacturers typically say they won't honor a warnantee if you use 3rd party accessories (accept licesnsed ones)

ok so even if this is true does the ps3 have some sort of spy cam on it that can detect all the cables being used and then they secretly phone that information to sony and they in turn screw you. I smell ........a lie or a retard being too honest for his own good.

The case with third party products is, if Sony licenses it, meaning they approved the product, then it won't void your warranty. However, if you get a third party company's product who Sony did not license, and it breaks your console (I mean a flaw in it that causes damage to your PS3), Sony might not fix it.
Most third party products, like the Guitar, PIU pad, Logitech Wireless controller, etc. have a stamp saying "Official licensed by Sony", meaning that Sony approves of the product.
I plan to buy component cables for my PS3 (if I don't get an HDMI compatible TV), and when I do, I would not buy third party unless I saw "Officially licensed by Sony".
WOW! Great job Sony! What a scummy way to cover your losses on the sale of the PS3.If Sony didn't license the product (they will license stuff that definitely works and they fully test), I could see why they would do this.

It's nothing like that, the guy probably told the rep that his cables weren't first-party when they asked. They have no way of telling beyond that.

This is nothing special. All manufactureres do this if you claim it. The guy was stupid enough to say he was using a 3rd party cable.
This is just more morons trying to attempt to make more Sony bashing news.

Exactly. However, even if you could prove that there were 3rd part cables, you couldn't, however, prove it blew your processor for example.

its 19.99 cheaper than other 3rd party.Yeah, that's why I will get it. :)
The part has to actually cause the problem and Sony has to prove it.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act: look it up. It covers just about everything.

They can't, there are very few of them left and they need to make up for the ones that ditched.

That is complete, utter B.S. and just something made up by another un fanboy...Sony would have no way of knowing what/whos cables you are using. There is zero difference between cables... and finally, mine is warranted through Best Buy anyways not Sony.

It's not a lie, this guy was just dumb enough to divulge the fact that he was using a third-party cable.
