I don’t know if these posts are complete BS (which is 100% possible) or if these guys are being genuine. I really am hoping for the latter. Three testers for Sonic and the Secret Rings have posted some blog entries concerning their playtime with the game. From what they are saying, the game will definitely kick ass. They appear to be having a wonderful time with it. I really do hold hope that this could be the first real “great” fully 3d Sonic game. If Sega feels this way too, they are smart to let these guys talk. On the other hand, Sega could be trying to salvage sales of a new 3d Sonic title after the disaster that is Sonic the Hedgehog (Xbox 360, soon to PS3). Take a look at one of the posts below from Alan and Adam, two QA testers for Sonic and the Secret Rings. Follow the link afterwards to read up on another tester’s opinion.

We’ve been working on Sonic and the Secret Rings since it came in for testing in mid December (you may have seen the backs of our heads in Justin’s blog entry back on Dec 14). We’ve been playing SSR day in day out and we’re still not bored.

We may have completed the game a hundred times, but we still love the challenge - trying to beat each other to get the top times on each mission. There are more than 20 hours of really tough, really fast gameplay to be had. In fact I think we can safely say this is the fastest Sonic game yet.

SSR has a completely original story, loosely based on the Arabian Nights book (with some bizarre twists) and features you’ve never seen before. This is the first Sonic game to include a kind of RPG element, as Sonic levels up with experience points. The higher your level, the more skills you unlock and the faster you go! By the time you reach level 60 you’ll be running so fast your eyes will bleed. The game also looks great, not that you’ll get a chance to appreciate the scenery at the speed you’ll be running.

The Wii controls work really well. This is no port; this is a true Wii game, designed from the ground up with the Wii remote in mind. And finally, if all that wasn’t enough, there’s loads of fun to be had with the huge selection of awesome multiplayer mini games, which make great use of the Wii technology.

This is back-to-basics Sonic. It’s all about speed, the way it should be. If you remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with great nostalgia, we think you’re going to love this.

I really hope these PREVIEWS are truthful. Almost all of the previews have been positive...which could mean nothing but...The good thing is that this is a game that was designed specifically for the Wii from the ground up. It uses a fixed camera which has been a major problem for Sonic in the 3D space. The screenshots look pretty good. I don't think I would even be looking at this game at all if it wasn't for Sonic Rush. It would just be nice to have an original Sonic game hit the Wii and be a solid exclusive...it might help push other developers over to the Wii if it sells well enough. LET's fucking go SONIC!

I hope it does turn out well. However, what's with all the hate towards all the 3D Sonics I hear now? I still think Sonic Adventure is a great game (though flawed somewhat). Sonic Adventure 2 I will admit is a much more flawed title.

That's good news, I do want to get Sonic and the Secret Rings, but I was worried it may go the way of other 3D Sonic games. Hopefully there is truth to this.

The Adventures were good with some flaws (I'd actually disgree and say that 2 is the superior game ;) ), but things have just gotten worse rather than better.

Shadow the Hedgehog. Need I say more?

Yeah I think its just been the gradual decline that is upsetting. Not too mention the addition of new and useless crappy characters. I'm psyched that the Wii game is Sonic only.

I really want this game to be good, but I know better than to get my hopes up about a Sonic game nowadays.

I'll reserve my judgement until I get to play it myself.

No, I'll grant you they've been in decline and the X360 version is unplayable, but people don't say this or that Sonic title, but say ALL 3D sonic titles, and I disagree with that. Just my opinion.

Oh, and I agree with you that Sonic Adventure 2 had better Sonic levels, but the rest of the game wasn't as good in my mind. :)

Yeah, most people forget that Sonic Adventure was a pretty decent title for it's time. All the others blew chuncks however.

Also, any and all other Sonic characters not named Sonic, Tails or Knuckles can go straight to hell.

When I read that last paragraph my eyes started to tear. Damn I hope they are true because sonic 2 was my 2nd favorite game ever.

I will have to rent this before I buy. I am sooo wanting an awesome sonic game, but with Sega's track record over the last few years I won't blind buy their games any longer.

Hope it ends up being good, but hard to get excited given Sonic's 3D track record.

Sounds like the game won't be worth $50 to me either way though. Really need to quit buying launch consoles. :D

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'll take it as honest opinion since he name dropped Sonic the Hedgehog 2 specifically. I cant fucking wait

The adventure games were fun for the sonic/shadow parts, but the tedious jewel finding missions sucked ass. As did the shooting levels with tails/eggman/the robot. Don't even get me started on the fishing levels.

Yeah good call....I will probably just wait for some reviews or CAG opinions but I won't be buying this day one.

I'm instantly sold on the Wii game now.

Sonic only? No more shitty made up characters?

Sold. Fucking sold.

I dont know how many times I've said that, and have been burned. After Sonic Heroes, all sonic games are at "Rent Status" until 6 games from now, to make up for all the lost money.

Sonic on 360 and PS3 had bad feedback at last year's E3 while the Wii version (titled 'Sonic Wild Fire' at the time) was supposed to be really good. So expect this one to be the best 3D sonic game in the last eight years.

As 3D platformers go, the Adventure games were pretty decent. But the issue with Sonic is that it's always going to be compared with greatness of the Genesis Sonic games. Nothing lives up to the good old Genesis carts. Sonic and optical media just don't get along! ;)

Well, I'm giving this one my attention now because it's Sonic ONLY... no more of this "let's play as 18 different characters in a Sonic game" bullshit.

Devotees of Sonic CD may disagree ;)

Well I'll wait to play it....It's not like Sega testers are going to say anything awful about their game anyway.

That link just reeks of guerilla marketing. This is nearly as bad as Sony's PSP website. The marketing companies that create these abominations should really learn what normal people talk like.

Maybe if they make a sequal, where each level you switch automatically. That is to say the game is as good as they say.

I remember when I blindly bought Sonic Heroes and Sonic Battle for GBA at launch. I said, "I can't wait! Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were awesome!" I even told this to the Best Buy cashier and she smiled along with me.
I stopped smiling when I played Sonic Heroes.

I enjoyed Heroes much more than SA2. SA1 was a great step into 3D for it's time, but SA2 did nothing new, and forced the player into some of the most frustrating platforming I have ever played. As for the Shadow game. I had bad feelings about it the moment they announced the name... Sega has to learn not to give into a new age Sonic fanboy's wet dream.

While Rush was great, it felt more like the Advance series, except good and with a catchy soundtrack.

I still wait for the day that I see Super Sonic playable during normal stages. The last time that happened was what.... Sonic R? I can still feel the sunshine...

Fingers are crossed for Secret Rings.
