When I saw the 1989 Best Buy ad, I decided to try to find an old Babbages (Gamestop) ad that I had. I dont remember the games being this much, but if I remember correctly, Babbages was always $5-$10 more expensive than other stores.

$64.99 for WSBII for Saturn... Wow, that goes for like $5 now.

Anyone have any other old ads that they could post up here? This is kinda fun seeing how much stuff was back then.

Maybe 800 Wii Points for Kirby Superstar isn't that bad...

Babbage's did charge about $5-$10 over MSRP. But remember, at that time, you could bring back ANY game, after ANY amount of time. In/around 1997, I saw a guy bring in an NES Game with receipt, and they gave him his cash back.

I didn't remember the return policy, but back then I was like 10 so I didn't buy many, if any games for myself. That policy must have been insane!

Yep. I worked at Babbage's around that time for a year and a half and it was very surprising that the policy was hardly abused at all. And if somebody did start abusing it, word would quickly spread to all of the stores to just stop selling to that customer.

I paid $75 for Final Fantasy 3 way back when it came out. I think it was from walden where I had it reserved though.

I remember Jumping Flash... Battle Arena Toshinden...

But holy crap. I don't ever remember SNES games being that expensive. Then again, I've never been to a Babbages, or remember much of my childhood.

Also, what the heck is a "Nintendo Super Group"?

Think BB or CC will pricematch those floppy discs? Thats some good value right there.

I don't think these prices at Babbage's are THAT off from other retailers... I've got an old comic book that has an ad from Toys R Us to preorder Sonic 3 for $69.99 =O

Really? I didn't know that...

But still, those prices are nuts.

World Series Baseball II for $64.99? What a ripoff since it's a disc based game, I picked it up from EB for $2.87 new I think in 1999 with a free 3D controller as well (EB was giving them away for free with any Saturn game purchase)

Why is this in the deal graveyard?

Does some mod not have a sense of humor?

Thats what I was wondering. Cause my BB ad thread got moved here too, and I had it posted in the shopping discussions thread, which is the appropriate place for it. Whatever.

This reminds me of Software Etc .

"You better pre-order The Legend Of Zelda :Ocarina Of Time if you want a copy ."
"Oh really ? How much is it going to be ?"
"We don't knnow yet . "

Yeah right , I knew their price would be at least $5 more than MSRP .

"No thanks ."
