Just saw this - http://www.ebaymainstreet.com/federal/sales-tax/

This would really suck. From what I can tell, this would mean that you'd have to collect tax from anyone and everyone that buys something from you on eBay - according to their specific states tax rate, and then send the tax to that state.

That would sure make selling on eBay/Half/Amazon a real PITA....

And how many people would actually do it? Sure, half a dozen douchebags will collect the tax, but they won't actually go through the effort of sending it to the correct state. Hell, I wouldn't even do it.

Yeah I wouldnt do it. Im not a big time seller on eBay so It isnt that big of a deal. Im not gonna collect 50 cents here and there and waste a stamp sending it to the state.

Most if not all the stuff I sell I already paid tax on when I bought it. Why should I be doubled taxed just because I choose to sell it.

I wont collect it, and if eBay implements a way to "make" you collect it I wont use it anymore. What a scam.

Fortunately in Canada you have to have 30,000CAD a month revenue before you have to charge GST.

Sounds like if this goes thru, its not just going to ebay that is affected - tax free sites like Amazon and Buy.com will have to start charging the tax too

This will hurt amazon and all of them a lot more than ebay, I suspect most ebayers wont bother and states wont go after them, with the exception of major sellers.

That would be horrible . I think a lot of people consider one of the adavantages of EBay and online shopping having no taxes.

I hate the way the tax systems are set up. Last year in tax class we were talking about how if you live in a state that charges say 6% sales tax and make a purchase in a state with a 5% sales tax, you are supposed to pay the extra 1% difference to your state yet if you made a purchase in a state with a 7% sales tax, your state won't give you the 1% extra back.
