I thought this guy seemed to get the game better then others that had reviewed the release from Japan already. (http://www.insertcredit.com/reviews/ac4/) Mainly because he seems to have followed the series until this point.
A bit old, but I thought I'd share for those interested and who haven't seen it.

I'm looking forward to this game regardless of reviews unless they are really terrible. I haven't played an AC game since AC3 so I'm looking forward to this one :D

I'm definitely looking at getting the game. I liked what I've seen in videos. I definitely feel like playing a mech game right now too.

Just curious, how many frickin' Armored Core games are there? It seems like every time I'm in a game store, I see another AC title I've never heard up. I think I've counted up to at least 5 on the PS2 alone.

Each new AC game seems to get lower and lower review scores. Mainly because the games dont really innovate and continue to stick to the archaic control scheme. I happen to love the series tho, and if you can come to grips with the original controls style, thats the best way to play imo. Believe it or not this is one of the games that makes me wish I had a ps3.

That should be "Armored Core: Project Phantasma"; Philosoma is a 2-D shooter for PS1.

hahahaha, thanks. =p I wrote that at work and couldnt devote 100% to remembering the name. I remember Philosoma, I think I have it, but alot of my ps1 games are boxed away somewhere.

I'm going to go with Nexus for being the better one.
Nine Breaker doesn't even have a story mode, so you probably want to avoid that one.

What? Why should I? It says "CG Intro" at the top of the page I linked.
And the gameplay is actually like the intro, but the visuals aren't. You can slide across the ground/sky, side bursting out the way of incoming rockets, jumping off buildings, and slash at enemy robots in the game too.

You would really go with Nexus? I'd say Armored Core 3 and Silent Line or Last Raven. I didn't like Nexus for the sheer fact that you overheat so easily and no blade tracking or whatever its called.

Maybe 3 would work. I disliked many of the missions in Last Raven though.

This game looks cool.. I tried the demo on the 360 and I am now thinking I will have to grab this next week when it hits the stores. I have never played an AC title but after trying the demo I am hooked. Can't wait to throw this in my PS3.

I rented it. I had fun while I had it. Hated all the load screens but they went by fast. Sooooo... many details in this game. If you love tinkering with every piece of your AC then this is the game for you!

I just played the 360 demo and I'm really impressed. I've never really tried any of the big mech games (beyond Mechwarrior on the PC and Zone of the Enders on PS2)... but this was hilariously fun.
Funny thing is, when I thought about buying it (before I tried the demo), the Gamestop employees panned it as worst game ever. I find their conclusions to be quite wrong...

AC games are either love or hate. For some they take to much time to get used to while others, either know how the game should go or enjoy learning the skills to pilot and tune everything.
Wish the PS3 had a demo too so others might have the same reaction you did.

I used to enjoy some obscure turn-based mech games on my amiga (hex grid and all... and played ever-so-briefly "Titans of Steel" on the PC)... and for those games (along with my jr. fascination with Battletech) it pays to be into the details. That's why I liked Front mission 3 and 4 so much, I guess. ( I really need to get back to playing them...)
For pick-up-and-go games, AC ain't it. :) That's probably the thing that scares people away... but in reality it's half the fun... And it's not a chore like some games in the past have made tinkering...
I'm definitely picking this one up after work tomorrow. :)

I'm thinking most reviewers are either looking for the "accessible to the masses" (read: dumbed down to nothing) AC game, or they're just not the right kind of folks to be playing a mech game where customization is king...
Thankfully there was one PS3 copy left at the local store.. ;) I noticed the 360 case had two used copies and no new ones. Guess they aren't familiar with the series. Shame, though... it'll probably be labeled as schlock and no other similar games (much less a sequel) will show up on the 360 (I could be wrong though...)
I wasn't familiar with the game either, but when I read about it, I kept asking myself how I could've let these things slip by. :)
It's the giant robots... they're the keenest! :-)

AC is an acquired taste, and it has been for years and years. Either you get it or you don't. People feel "left out" if they don't, but don't rag on the game.

And that's a shame... I don't get GTA, but I am not going to pan the game because I don't feel included in the target audience for the game...
The Romans had a saying... "On matters of taste, there is no argument"... or something like that. ;)

I love all things giant robots (see avatar for proof), and as such, love the AC series. The gameplay is farely mindless shooting, with some annoying as hell "protect the _____" missions, but the customization is amazing. Seriously, for the most part, the only reason to play missions is to earn cash to buy cooler parts for you mech. I so want to buy this for my new 360, but judging from previous entries in the series, it is so niche that you should be able to find it used within a few months for really cheap.

Just played the demo... I love the game, but I just don't like the controls. on the ground is fine... but in the air... its difficult to control the mech. I wish this game would have used the same exact set up that Z.O.E uses...

Remember it is a demo. And like most demos you can't change the controls. Though in the retail version, I'm fairly sure you can change the control schemes. Kind of remember playing around with the settings when I had the game here.

I love the demo now, so now I must get it. It's funny because I get an S/A on the PS3 demo, while getting a B on the 360 demo. I can see which console likes me more.

the firing buttons should definitely be switched with the weapon change buttons so you can shot and aim at the same time. So hard to move while getting a general lock on to shoot, but then the enemy moves out of your lock on and you gotta adjust again.
game looks like it might be decent, though I'm still not sold on it yet. Probably just not my kind of game.

i played the 360 demo...got a B on the first mission...then they give you the water one and the desert one...i could not beat them..i tried the water one 3 times and the desert one twice...i think i could have beat the desert dude given a few more tries (his health was going down fast but he was lightning quick)
anyway, seems like a fun game...i think i'll get this in either a trade now or i'll wait for it to drop in price

The desert one was manageable if you switched up mechs until you found one that worked , but I couldn't beat that water level for anything, still the demo did its job, sold me on the game.

See, that is why they need to release demos BEFORE the games come out. :)Yeah, but I understand why some devs do release the demo afterwards, since they can release a demo of a finished product, instead of some beta version with flaws (that could be serious and hurt people from buying it, like the Forza demo).
