Heya--

So i'm temporarily departing from the Wii, by which I mean I sold it to another CAG and am waiting for more games to come out.

I can't check this for myself since I can't get in to the Wii shop here at school. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure whether VC games and points added to your Wii account stay on the console after you format the system. Also, I plan on backing up the VC games to an SD card, will I be able to copy them back onto my new system? thanks for any help cags.

(checked the FAQ, didn't see anything.)

(checked the FAQ, didn't see anything.)I don't know about the points but the VC games do not stay on the console. Second the VC games are tied to the system so you will have to rebuy any VC games on your new Wii, why don't you just leave the VC games on the Wii since you are selling it to another CAG, just get rid of your mynintendo account?

my credit card info is on the wii, so I have to format it. and I have a ton of stuff registered at mynintendo-- that would suck if they ran a cool promo for that and I had to miss out.

are you sure I'd have to rebuy the games? I thought there was some way to get them back.

You might be able to call Nintendo and work something out, but the VC games are tied to the console, so it won't work on a different one.

You might be able to just wipe the memory and then load the games back on there from the SD card and that way your credit card info isn't on there. Then just add a little to the price and you're not losing much money and the CAG gets the games.

The prescribed method for this (in the case of your console breaking, same need) is to call Nintendo and they'll untie your VC games from the old console (make sure you write down the serial number) and tie them to your new console.

Not sure how they handle it in this case where he is just selling it and has no new console right now to tie them to though.

This WILL NOT WORK. I tried once before. There's no way to get games off the SD card.

Jesus... Nintendo sure made this a bitch. I don't see why you can't just cut ties from one Wii, format the system, and then tie a new Wii to your account and re-download it.

Or if they want to be stingy with their bandwidth, let us back them up to SD card and transfer that way like we do with Miis and saved games. As it is, there's no effective way to back up your games or transfer them at all.
