Hey everybody,

I have a samsung (lnr238w) 720p LCD TV that can also accept 1080i signals and scale them down to 720p.

My question is, will the ps3 scaler downscale 1080p/i signals to 720p for me, such as when I'm watching a blu-ray movie or playing a 1080p/i game?

Or, for movies, will it simply set the output to 1080i and rely on my tv's scaler to scale down to 720p? Or will I have to set the output to 1080i manually?

For games, will all games support 720p, including those made for 1080p? If not, how will the scaler handle this situation?

thanks

The PS3 lets you choose the resolution you want to output. I have a 720p/1080i Samsung, but I set the PS3 to output at 720p.

So your best bet is probably to let the PS3 downscale and output at 720p.

QFT. I set my PS3 to output to 720p on my 32 inch Samsung LCD. Works perfect and looks GREAT to me.

In my experience it's always best to try and match the native resolution of the set as much as possible, in this case that'd be 720p. However keep in mind that currently 1080i and 1080p are the only Hd resolutions the PS3 can output Blu-ray movies at. The latest update may have doen something about that though (doubtful), so I'm not 100% sure.

I have a samsung 32 inch CRT TV and I have my ps3 set at 1080i. Blu-Ray movies look perfect (except Click - that movie didnt look good on my tv).
