Another rare case of a release date being moved up. Only three more weeks to see if this is as dismal as the last few iterations, or as good as the positive hype.

One week closer to me not buying it!

Great news. Unless we hear something absolutely and unequivocally TERRIBLE about it between now and then, I'm buying it.

Yep. Where are the reviews? I've never bought a Sonic game in my life, but this one looks fun.

I had my decision made for me with my $17.08 preorder from PCConnection, but I think that's dead, so I'm back to the waiting game.

I understand the skepticism, but I kind of liked Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. I'm willing to give this a whirl once the price comes down. I like that they're limiting it to a rails-type system to preserve the speedy "feel" from the 2D original.

Damn I so want this fucking game so badly. I have been craving for a kick ass sonic, oh please don't make it suck...

I'll grab this unless the reviews are horrible. I understand the low expectations since Sonic has sucked for almost 10 years. I'm optimistic since Sonic Rush on DS is terrific.

Wow, really this soon huh? I'm stoked. If this flops, Sonic Team loses any trust they had left.
I did see a video of this playing in EBgames and the graphics look SHARP. For a Wii game at least-- very very good looking Wii game though.

Sweet, this may end up making a huge difference for me as the store where I have this preordered may no longer exist in March! This just might be the ticket to me getting this with my existing credit. If not, I will probably have to wait for a price drop, though I'm not sure my kids will let me do that as I already showed them the gameplay videos and whatnot ;). If my store doesn't get it in I will base a full price purchase somewhere else on the reviews. (Well, I'll base my preorder on the reviews a bit as well - if it gets panned as much as the 360 Sonic I'll just cancel my preorder).

Ironically Sonic Team isn't making this game. That's part of the reason why hopes are high.

Sonic Team didn't do Sonic Rush, and it was the best Sonic game since S&K. Please, let the same be true for Secret Rings... please...
Although, it amazes me that people still clamor for a NiGHTS sequel, knowing full well that Sonic Team has just pumped out crap title after crap title in recent years. It's sad, really. :(

Apparently he contributed a little bit to Sonic Adventure, but that's it.
The frightening thing is, this game was originally going to be a port of the 360/PS3 version. Though this one isn't guaranteed to be better, at least it can't be any worse.

One has to wonder if Nintendo got some playtiem with an early version of the HD Sonic and said, "No, listen, guys. We will help you use the remote and make a real game. Don't bring this crap over to the Wii."
You know, I'd really like to see what a 1st party Nintendo developer could do with Sonic. They did such an excellent job capturing the feel of the original SMB in NSMB that I'd have to image they could do at least as good as Sonic Rush, if not better.
Can we have a real 2D Sonic on the Wii somtime? Please?
Oops! I did it again.

Honestly, I'd like to see 3D Sonic really nailed out of the park at least twice before another legit 2D Sonic game on the home platforms. Hopefully Sonic TSR will be the title which finally establishes the formula for what is nailing a homerun of a 3D Sonic title!

This looks to be the first true Sonic game in 3D, meaning that the core gameplay experience is running as fast as you can while avoiding obstacles. None of the 3D sonic games replicated that mechanic, instead opting to leach off of Mario 64.
It'll be interesting to see the scores.

You never know what goes on behind closed doors. Could be completely plausible.
I agree about handing off the reigns. Everyone has pretty much written the franchise off already so the only way to go is up.

Looks good, but no way I'll buy for more than 20 as it's sure to be a pretty short game.
Not to mention I was never the world's biggest Sonic fan, even before the recent 3D debacles.

They briefly show some multiplayer in the video - looks Mario Party-esque. I was hoping for something a little more substantial than minigames for this one. Don't get me wrong, I like minigames - but we already have Rayman/Monkey Ball/Warioware, plus Mario Party on the way.
Hopefully there's more to it than what appears on the video.

This game looks really good. Of course, if the controls are asstacular then I guess that isn't saying much. But honestly, it looks like there are at least parts of the game that are going to be fun. Hell, I'm going to try and get this. Maybe I will use my GGC and Reward Zone credits on it to soften the blow...

Well the fact that it even has a multiplayer component, even if it's a mini-Mario Party clone, is still pretty cool. I would much rather the devs concentrate on making a good single player game with tight controls and camera than waste their time trying to make a "substantial" multiplayer mode. As most Sonic fans already know, multiplayer is the least of our worries...

Hopefully there's more to it than what appears on the video. It's fine with me, actually. I don't expect much if any multiplayer out of a correctly-done Sonic game, so the thrown-in minigames will work.

By more substantial, I meant maybe incorporating some aspects of the main game. What I'd like to see?
1. Obviously, races through some of the levels from the main game.
2. 1 person running through as sonic, and the other 3 get to be the bad guys. I haven't thought about it too much, but this is what I'm picturing: the bad guys get a set number of points. They use points to put enemies in Sonic's path, make the ground collapse in front of him, etc. If Sonic dies, the bad guys win, while if the bad guys run out of points, Sonic wins.
Minigames mean developing new content rather than building off the main idea. While this can be both good and bad, I don't really envision Sonic as a mini-game type game. If the main game is as good as it's being hyped, why not build on it?
Now I'm extrapolating a lot from the few seconds of video - there could be minigames + the modes I mentioned above, which I'd be fine with.
Oops! I did it again.

I just picked up the two Sonic Adventures for the Cube and am going to replay them (played them both long ago on the Dreamcast) in anticipation of Secret Rings. I beat DX (SA1) today. I remember why I never really replayed that game after I beat it, it's almost painful in places. But, there were definitely moments of, "You know, a game just like this would be fantastic!" -- the same thoughts I had when I first played it. I was hopeful for SA2, but then we ignored that hope and made those silly shooting levels and horrendous emerald-hunting levels. Ugh.
Sonic in 3D has always had promise, but the methodology has just never worked. Replaying these games, and reexperiencing all that is wrong with them (and enjoying the parts that are fun, because they do have some good in them ;) ) has made me more convinced that the choices they've made in Secret Rings are the right ones. Now, will the execution live up to the theory? Here's hoping.

Here's hoping.I feel the same way, I liked Sonic Adventure for the DC (Sonic in 3D is cool but they have to do it right and SA did some things good and others meh), but a more redefined sonic game would rule and Secret Rings looks like lets take the awesomeness from the previous SA games and exploit them so this game is good. I have very high hopes for this because it looks awesome.

I think his point was that since Nintendo is outsourcing their own games (read: lack of time/resources), they wouldn't have time to work on a Sonic game.

Going by the new treiler, so long as Sonic's entourage is relegated to minigames only, then this game has a decent chance at not sucking.

Some new impressions. Be warned, there's some spoilers about the very last level toward the end (3rd to last and 2nd to last paragraphs). Nothing major, but I did read 1/2 of them and know a little more than I'd like to.
The lack of a life system and a good challenge sounds good to me. If this game can be about as fun as Excite Truck, that will be wonderful, and major step forward for the franchise.
