I don't think the sites legit, i mean 79.99 for Halo 3 legendary? No way thats going to happen, no one on this planet in their right mind would sell a game in which 15,000 copies are being made for 79.99. Espically when most places sell it for 100.00, 90.00 yes 79.99, no

So, what exactly is in this 'Legendary Edition' that is worth 79.99?

A bonus disk?

It sounds like a publicity stunt: They sell it for a significantly lower price, they dont make tons of money (or, they loose money on the special) but the free advertising and word of mouth helps them make other purchases to get a foothold in the business.

Hello Cheap Ass gamers. My name is Tony and I am the owner of Liongames. IT is a little bit frustrating reading some of the negative comments on this thread. I am a new website and I have offered a deal on halo 3. It is just a promotion plain and simple. I have no problem if people say they don't want to buy from me because I am new. That is respectful enough for me. However getting accused of being a fly by night operation, or being called shady, or a big bag of Sh*T just isn't very nice in my book. I am sure that these people who made these comments never have done business with me, so I am not sure if those comments are called for. Building a good reputation is very important for a website business. If anybody has had a bad experience with me then by all means speak up. Let the world know. Please don't accuse my site of not being legit just because I am new and have offered a good promotion. After all this is what this forum is all about right? People want to buy from Best Buy at midnight. I cool with that. It sounds like fun to be playing halo at 12:15 am. People want to be Eb customers. I respect that also. I have a Eb games about 20 minutes from me in Avon CT. I have to tell you that while doing research for opening my site I was in there a few times. The manager there was Fantastic. He knew his games, he treated all his customers well, he treated his co workers well and up held company policy. I was very impressed with him.
I been in the video business since 1987 and been competing with blockbuster for a very long time. I am still around because I am legit and respect people and my competition. There isn't very many of us little guys left. I think that does say something about the way I run my business. Any way good luck to you all and thanks for hearing me out. Tony

Hello CAGs. My name is umcthomas and I am the owner of a Chevy Malibu. IT is a little bit frustrating reading some of the comments made by a newly subscribed user about the authenticity of the website in this discussion. I have no problem with people promoting their new businesses. That is, I am happy that a new business owner will discuss his business with the public because that shows he (or she) is making an effort to build a customer base. However, when a business owner makes his very first post on CAG to claim his (or her) site is authentic, it just raises the eyebrow of shadiness that much further. I am sure offering such a good deal, and maybe at a loss, is a good way to get a few new customers to make a purchase so you have people who will let others know you are a legitimate site. If, however, there are very few people who have used your site yet then you cannot prove yourself by challenging people for to provide negative feedback. I am and will continue to be a customer of those stores I know. I am happy you are cool with me.
I have been playing videogames since 1982 and have been a Blockbuseter customer since 2007. I am still around because of moderately good eating and exercise. I am legit and respect people in general. I think your first post to this forum says something about your credibility on this site. I hope you do have an older account you will now post from so we can see you have some staying power. umcthomas

My biggest thing with these sites is they don't offer a telephone #. It just seems to be a fraud when you can't even offer a # to call. If this was a legitimate site why would they not offer a #? Can anyone fill me in on a reason for not doing this simple thing that would seem to build credibility?

Liongames:

While I disagree fundamentally with the tone this discussion has taken (and agree on a very basic level with the premise of small businesses "fighting" larger corporations), please take some time to recognize and perhaps correct what are, at least in my perception, the very legitimate concerns raised in the thread, most notably the lack of a contact phone number on your site. Again, I'm not agreeing with the tenor of the discussion, but rather saying that if you want to assuage worries and earn trust, it behooves you to take the extra step and address the more substantive concerns in a thread that is somewhat laced with aspersions and paranoia. Thanks.

Zoarster. I agree with you 100 on all accounts. I am not happy with the tone of the conversation either. I was just trying to say in a very polite way when people post something that may shed a bad light on a website, that 1000's of people will read ,it would be nice if they had actual proof before the comments were made. Having said that I want to apologize to everyone for not choosing those words carefully enough. My wife and I really worked hard putting this website together, so I felt a little bad about reading some of the comments posted.

I also want to say that I have learned something this week. I really do understand people having to protect themselves. I realize I am under a microcsope here and I realize the phone number is a big issue and I am going to address that in the upcoming weeks. The reason I never put a phone number down is because liongames is a part of my video stores. I didn't want people calling one of the stores and having the employee answer the phone Age of Video. Which is the phone number near the top of the post. The other issue I was concerned with was teaching 20+ employees everything about Liongames. An employee that works one day a week is not going to be an expert on Liongames. Being that it is wintertime in Conn. I am really never away from my computer for very long periods of time. I figured email would be the best way for people to get a hold of me. At this stage of the game I want to deal with every customer personally. That is how I started with my video stores in 1987. So I am taking the same exact approach with Liongames. That is the reason for the phone number not being posted yet. I am still learning and making changes every day. I sure 10 years from now I still will be learning. Once again I am sorry if I came across in a way I shouldn't have. I am trying to gain people's trust and not offend them.

I was the one who posted the WHOIS information, mainly because we've had plenty of scammers/spammers show up at our doorstep with deals that are much too good to be true. I wanted to give my users an out if they ordered from liongames.com and ran into issues with the order. Having the phone # from the WHOIS info isn't a preferred solution, it's what I had to work with.

On first glance, this deal for a limited-production item that's $20 off retail price and ten months off from being released, yeah, that sounds like more of the same. Which is why people have been a little harsh with their commentary, they're trying to make sure people aren't out $80 + shipping. We have a tightly-knit community that looks out for one another, so in situations like this where the deal appears to good to be true, people get suspicious.

I do suggest you put up a contact phone number, and staff it with people who can resolve issues you run into. That would go a long way with making people less concered with thinking they're going to get rooked.

Having a tight community is a good thing. I belong to a few myself. It may take a few weeks for me to set up, but I will take care of the phone number issue. I think your right that the fact the legendary edition is limited raised more concerns. The truth of the matter the legendary and collectors editions were after thoughts for me. The main part of the deal was for the regular edition. then I thought I will offer $20 off for all editions. Thanks again for the advice. I will take action on it.

Actually I am still looking into that. I did get some emails from Canada. The biggest problem is the expense of tracking. The post office doesn't do delivery confirmation out of the USA. I would then maybe have to register or insure the pacakge which would wipe most of the savings out for the customer. In this case the game price may be low enough that shipping to Canada may be worth it.

Well...Reputable or not, how does a small home town company guarantee the pre-orders on a limited item? Lets just say you get a ton of pre-orders for the Legendary edition, but they only ship you two? If you are legit you would obviously send everyone's money back, but I don't know if I want to chance the possiblity of missing out on the limited edition all together.

This is an excellent question. I had a conversation with my distributor yesterday about the possibility of allocations. We came up with a very conservative number that we feel would be safe to sell before I make that edition no longer available. They may have more information after march 1St and I might be able to sell more after that date. I checked last night and I found most retailers still accepting pre orders on the legendary edition. Like I said my number is very conservative. I don't see myself selling this version for longer then another week. When I get more information about possible numbers down the road ,I would then put the legendary edition back up for sale at that time. Last thing, I am a small hometown company, but I do spend good money with my distributor, and have been a good customers for many years. I do have a fair amount of pull with them. The other nice thing is they have a very good relationship with Microsoft. So I confident I will be okay.

It is good to see that you came forward as a representative of your business. If it wasn't painfully apparent by the name of this website, we tend to be a rather particular group of shoppers :)
Of course, the harsh reactions shouldn't be too much of a surprise: You're a newcomer amongst the avalible businesses and you're already making a pretty large offer. Very easy to be skeptical.

I do believe it would be very easy to be skeptical in this case. They fact that this group has very smart shoppers is actually a good thing for me. Sometimes people may took a look at a deal and say impossible and just dismiss it without putting any thought into how and why. There are plenty of good reason this deals makes sense for both my customers and me.

First of all I sent an email out last week to every customer explainign to them that i will not be updating the website with the halo tracking numbers because the shipping program sends out an email automatically with the delivery confirmation number. if my correspondence gets block or ends up in your trash bin there is not much i can really do. I always get a bunch of emails back that are automated spam filters. I cant respond to those. Now as far as ups orders go people dont receive the tracking numbers and I dont update the site for this reason. I dont get the tracking numbers until the day after the item ships. in the case of halo and all ups orders should be getting there today so in a few hours there wont be a need to update the tracking info. In the case of the legendary editions everyone is scheduled for a street date arrival except for 2 packages. One warehouse didnt ship 2 pieces for some reason and I caught that early today and those tow pieces went out today and those people should get them tommorow. If you ordered the legendary edition you didnt get what you paid for you got a $50 discount. I honored my price even though i lost $30 for every unit I sold. Gamestop sent out a recording saying you owe more money. If you want to check on your order shoot me an email with the details and I will look it up for you.
