With Resistance: Fall of Man (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3140599) done -- but new content next month, as another territory joins the Chimera fight, wouldn't shock us -- Insomniac Games has turned their teasing attention to the next Ratchet & Clank game, which will fall, as per usual with the franchise, exclusively on PlayStation 3. But, when can we have a look at it? Sooner than you think, actually; on the EGM Live!* (http://podcasts.1up.com/) podcast, the crew confirmed they'd have the next-generation sequel in their pages next month.
And not just a lame teaser, either. Screens. Details. The whole deal, man. Check back for more soon, but in the meantime, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (http://www.1up.com/do/gameOverview?cId=3149865) ships on PSP next week.
I cannot wait to see how the game looks so far. I believe this is refering to the April 07 issue, not March 07, as I have the issue right here and don't see it mentioned on the cover or in the table of contents anywhere.

Edit, New Update: We now have a name for Ratchet and Clank 5, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction."The name Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction works on many levels. It signals a new era for the franchise, ties into the game's story, and includes one of our signature subtitle double entendres." -- Brian Allgeier, design director, Insomniac Games
The issue of EGM should be sent out soon and be arriving early next month, so the good details will be known by then. I can't wait for my issue to get here.

Damn. Now, I love Ratchet and Clank, however, it is no way good enough of a series to make buy a PS3 right now.

Ok, because the game isn't coming out right now, or next month, and probably not the month after that.
Maybe you'll be ready then.

Alright, let me rephrase that, 2 games (Resistance and Ratchet and Clank) do not justify a $600 purchase for me.

hopefully it's sweet--I love the series, and it may be the thing that pushes me to buy a PS3

I love rachet and clank series. This game is going to have a difficult time making to greatest hit due poor system sales.I might bit on it on release date if game turns out really good
I've never played a game in the series, though they did look pretty cool.

The first one I played was Ratchet & Clank: UYA and I loved every single minute of it. A few months later, I picked up Going Commando but couldn't get into it - just too much more of the same thing. Maybe the polish of next-gen graphics could get me into the series again.
That podcast was hard to listen to on many levels. My first EGM podcast and it will also be my last.

When I toured Insomniac studios in Cali they were working on the game. Before they led us into each difff room they went ahead and shut off monitors / covered up drawings, etc.

Same experience. For me, after the first one, every other was the exact same game.

We already know that Insomniac can make good games on the PS3.. (ex. Resistance), just another great game to add to the collection... I just hope that it's really really heavy on action...

I disagree. They need to add back in heavy platforming like UYA or GC and get rid of the focus on combat like Deadlocked.

I can't wait. Ratchet & Clank is the best 3D platforming series ever (along with Jak) and it crushes Mario in every way. This is one of the big reasons I spent $500 on my PS3.

I've played every Ratchet and Clank game and I agree with mcgavin27.
They need to go back to the platform stuff more.
I enjoyed Deadlocked but it didn't realy compare to UYA.
This may help justify my PS3 purchase.

If Sony said they were bringing out the PS3 and making no games for it you would have bought it. That's what fanboys do.

I'm all over this. I know Sony wanted a first party exclusive shooter to launch the PS3 and everything, but I really would have preferred to play another Ratchet and Clank instead of Resistance. Resistance did make me happy, because after you beat it you unlock new weapons during your second play through. A few of them are very Ratchet and Clank-ish. For instance, the first of the new weapons are the Reapers - a couple of submachine guns that auto-target in a very similar fashion to Ratchet's starting gun in UYA or Deadlocked (can't remember). Still, I would have been happy to trade that drab brown and gray for some Ratchet and Clank.
I really loved the Ratchet and Clank series. It probably helped that I played each one at least a year after its respective release, and thus paid $15 or less for each one. I also played them in order. That's really important, because while each game is good in its own right, there's just no going back once you've played a more advanced game in the series. See Tony Hawks 1-3. While the mechanics of each game are basically the same, I think Insomniac made progressing through the series uncommonly rewarding. Every game had a new weapon set (way more than can be said for other shooters that release sequels years apart), a completely different way of upgrading weapons, and a completely new, well developed story. The first two sequels even checked your memory card for data from the previous game, and opened new weapons or unlocks based on what you had previously achieved!
I don't normally take the time to replay a game, but somehow Insomniac makes it happen. I think I played through Going Commando twice, Up Your Arsenal 3 times, and Deadlocked at least 3. And Deadlocked wasn't even that good. The environments were a big (HUGE) step back, but the weapon upgrades are the definition of rewarding. I tell myself I couldn't possibly get into an MMO because it's just endless grinding, but man, if grinding equaled turning varmints into increasingly explosive sheep, I'd have to hand over my bank account and key to my door.
So, I'm looking forward to this. It might be because of the obvious PS3 drought and my need to make that $600 purchase a little more validated, or because I'm simply hypnotized by Insomniac's particular methods of polygon destruction, but I'll probably be paying whatever full price they ask for this game upon release. Please be soon.

This, virtua fighter 5, resident evil 5, the fact that I like the ps2/ps3 controller better for tony hawk, and oblivion may be enough to make me get a ps3. But then again, virtua fighter 4, resident evil 5, and oblivion are all on the 360. Damn, maybe if ps3 gets a better DDR than the DDR Universe scheduled for the 360, I'll go for the ps3.

This game will be a return to the platforming portion of the series.

Damn, maybe if ps3 gets a better DDR than the DDR Universe scheduled for the 360, I'll go for the ps3.If Sony has a DDR developed by KCET instead of KCEH like Universe, it will automatically be a better DDR unless KCEH finds a way to fix timing and loading issues (that has been a problem in all four Ultramix games and never resolved).
If Sony said they were bringing out the PS3 and making no games for it you would have bought it. That's what fanboys do.
I'll put it this way. I feel Sony's first/second party games are the best by far. They alone sold me on PS3. If PS3 had NO third party support, I'd still love it. However, that's not the case (if there's a multi-platform game, I will always buy it for PS3).

So which of the ratchet games is the best? I played through most of the first one a long time ago, but lost interest in the series after that.. isn't deadlocked more of a halo style shooting/vehicle driving war type game? What about online play? I might want to try one of these games someday again!

I liked Going Commando the best, but they are all great games.
As for online, only Up Your Arsenal and I think Deadlocked have online (and Size Matters for the PSP if you're considering that).

The first three are the real R&C games. Deadlocked is more of just an arena-style battle game. Not bad, but more of a spin-off than part of the official series to me. And they're all a blast and worth playing. It's a shame this series doesn't get more of the respect it deserves.
