before this became a 4.99 deal game I didn't hear squat about it, I've played it, but I'm wondering is this the most overhyped gamed because of a clearance sale ever?

then you must not spend much time on these boards. There are so many topics about Disagea, people were making topics about it not being rare and such(before the reprint)

It's hyped because it was nearly a rare title (because Atlus is a bunch of cheapasses running a publisher, and ships games for a small period of time and stops randomly), so the perceived ebay value of it is fairly high. I should think its actual value will drop like La Pucelle did after the Target clearance/sale.

Disgaea is the best SRPG I've ever played.

OK I'm not trying to be a smartass but what is nearly a rare title (that is a good definition I think as that is what I would classify it as after the last few days)

It was nearing rare status, then it was reprinted. The eBay value was starting to shoot up because it was getting more and more difficult to find new or used anywhere.

A game that you can find if you look hard enough, but is not easy to find for the common man. Like Rez, Gitaroo Man, other games like that.

I dunno about REZ and Gitaroo Man, I haven't found them anywhere in Miami.

This is backwards. If you look around and check dates on messages and articles online you'll see there was a lot of buzz for this title among serious gamers.

Disgaea and its recently published in the US predecessor are very well rated but suffer from being Very Japanese and strange on top of that. This makes for a product the big publishers won't touch and an opportunity for a very small publisher like Atlus. Atlus doesn't have much capital and a single bad decision could ruin their whole fiscal year so they have to be very conservative about their production quantities. One of their earlier titles by the same company who created Disgaea, Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure on PSone, was a very poor seller. The first time I ever saw it was when I bought it for $10 from a Wal-mart. I recently sold it unopened for $100 on eBay. I hadn't touched it in two years and was shocked to discover it's current value.

It's probably not worth Atlus' trouble to get some more Rhapody's made but Disgaea is overcoming its non-mainstream nature by word of mouth and web, so Atlus will keep trickling it out one minimum production run at a time.

They're often hidden away in faraway unsuspected places. The TRU stores around here couldn't give away Gitaroo Man at $9.99. If you were really hard up for it I could take a look. Likewise, the TRU's in this region usually have Rez but I've resisted due to a persistently high price.

No one has addressed the real issue about the game...the fact that it is overrated.

Its not that good of a game. RPGers just like to think they are cool playing eclectic hard to get games.

Agreed. It's decent, but nowhere near as great as everyone makes it out to be. Who really put so much time into that game to get all their characters to the maximum levels? It would require well over 100 hours.
