I started this up today and right off the bat, it says hold O and move the d-pad to move the camera. This seems to me to be the most absurd way of moving the camera I have ever seen. You literally have to stop what you are doing to just move the camera to the correct angle. Am I missing something here or is it really that screwed up?

Something sounded fishy as soon as I saw it drop in price so fast and the lack of word/hype for it. Glad I didn't get it now.

It's similar with other games like Prince of Persia Revelations and Grand Theft Auto (both use L instead of O). But the problem with Essentials is that the camera never moves on its own so you constantly have to manually adjust it, it ruined the game for me.

It doesn't cripple the game the way you may think it, really. I was pretty impressed for a handheld game.
That said, I think it's a "greatest hits" of other SC titles, so there isn't any original content (you'll want to double check me on that). It's like a flashback episode of a sitcom in that way. Fun for $20, but totally unnecessary if you've scoured the other 4 games.

About half the game is new content and half is levels from other games. I've played all 4 of the others and love 3 of them (Pandora Tomorrow sucks), but the controls ruined Essentials for me. The alternate control setup is better (push D-pad down to toggle camera mode, then move the camera with the face buttons), but it's still pretty bad. It's the only PSP game I've played that I've had major problems with the controls.
