I am gettin my wisdom teeth pulled in about a month. Anyone have any suggestions ie. what should I eat after, and how long am I going 2 feel like shit etc.... All I really know is they put me 2 sleep and pull them out and I am going 2 feel like shit and barely be able 2 eat 4 a long time. I am gettin them pulled really early, i am only 16 so none of my friends have gotten theirs pulled.

2 is only one character longer than to. And unless you are pecking, it is definitely no faster. Anyway, you will be sore for a couple of days. Mine were pretty bad, and I vomitted up blood the first day.

Wisdom teeth are suposed to hurt alot, they'll give you probaly codoine and mabye oxycodone. I'de very much sugest staying away from oxycodone (they shouldn't give it to you but i've had friends whose doctors were dicks and just pescribed it to them).

I had 6 wisdom teeth pulled a few years ago (I had an extra pair. Lucky me). It was not as bad as I thought it would be and I didn't get knocked out. I just had nitrous and novacaine. It took about a week until I was able to eat any real food but much longer until I could eat anything I wanted to. My jaw only hurt for about 3 days after that, it was fine.

I still got mine intact. I refuse to let a dentist remove my wisdom. Why are you getting them removed anyways?

When I got mine pulled I was 17 I think (I am 20 now). I don't recall too much pain (meds to take care of that), but if you don't want your face to swell, ice like crazy. I used frozen peas, and I kid you not, for 45 then 15 min break for a day and a half, and I had no swelling. My best friend couldn't stand the cold and in turn looked like a chipmunk. I remember at first eating jello and pudding, and then moving on to macaroni. At first anything you don't have to chew is nice. I know I was able to go back to school on Tuesday, it was a long weekend and I got it done on the Friday. Sorry I can't remember how long it hurt, it was a few years ago. Good luck!! :D

EDIT: Also, I got all four out at once. I was knocked out and all, and I remember when I woke up I couldn't stop crying because I was so embarassed that I was drooling and I couldn't do anything about it, haha. A lot of bleeding.

They knocked me out when they pulled my last one. I remember sitting in the chair, then waking up in bed a few hours later, groggy as hell. My wife said that I was so out of it I couldn't lift my legs into the car, and then on the way home, I kept asking her where we were going.
I was given Vioden, and it helped. I also didn't swell up much, and was only off work for two days. I was able to eat softer foods right away, and within a couple of days, could eat whatever I wanted. Never got sick either.

I had 4 taken out. The day before I took some anti inflamitory stuff, they took them out, then that night, I was fine. No swelling, the next day I was eating normally.

Make sure you're well stocked on liquid foods that don't require any chewing and don't have to be kept too cold since that will be a problem, too.

I'm among that small percentage of the innately wise who are born without those traitorous things, so I've never had the problem you're facing. I did had have extra teeth farther forward and enough disarray that they pulled four of those before putting me in braces when I was 12. From what I'm told the teeth I had out are much less difficult for the surgeon and thus much less arduous for the patient.

Kids today don't know how much easier they have it if their teeth need straightening. My neices told me they'd recently gotten braces and pulled back their lips to show me. I had to get very close befor eI believed them because the damned things are practically invisible. Pretty nice compared to the big metal bands I had wrapped around each tooth for almost three years that made me feel like Winslow in 'Phantome of the Paradise.'

It looks like it! I even had stitches that disolved, so I didnt have to go back to get them removed.

well I've had 4 removed, it took two trips and two teeth each time.
They told me that I could eat milk shakes after the procedure. Also they told me to eat the milk shake using a spoon because sucking from a straw could cause more bleeding. I was in a really crappy mood for like 2 days after each procedure.

I had them done like 4 years ago and if I slap my face a few times I can still feel one side of my face a bit numb. The info I read about the procedure told me that was a posiblity. But I've learned to live with it, I can totally ignore it and feel fine.

That is a good point alot of these were probably a while ago. I am going 2 a private oral surgon to get them pulled (thank god for insurance) so they will probably be in with the new technology and experienced and all. I was thinkin about gettin them pulled at the dental school but I am goin private oral surgon

I'm lucky - my mouth is so damn big, I don't need to have mine pulled. :D

In any case, though, I've still got one coming in...and it hurts. A lot, actually. I guess I feel your pain, but to a much lesser extent.

Honestly, my mouth never hurt at all after my wisdom teeth were pulled. I bled like hell all day and night, though. Plus, they gave me some cool ass meds that made me feel really good.

I really can't remember what kinds of food I ate, but I know that they let me keep my teeth, and I would show everyone when they came over. For some reason, they thought it was really gross.

I guess I am going to wait till the summer quarter is over and have them do it during my vacation time.

I had to have my wisdom teeth removed at 18, because they were messing up the alignment of all my other teeth. So it was remove them or have hideous teeth and render 2 years of brace wearing useless. Out they went.

Worst thing to eat after the removal...anything with rice and beans in it. Oh yeah, and forget spicy Thai food.

I'd rather have my wisdom teeth removed again then have to wear metal braces ever again! Wisdom teeth remove=one month of pain vs. braces=years of pain. Kids are so fucking lucky nowadays, with Inviseline braces.

I had 3 of mine pulled 2 years ago, suppose to be 4 but the Dental Surgeon said the last one is fine to stay. I was asleep and when I woke up I puked a couple of times. It was painful for about a week, after 2 days I was already eating solid food..

Felt great after they were removed, I had fever on and off because of those bastards.. plus the hurt as hell..

I got mine pulled not too long ago...I had a awesome oral surgeon do it (dont let a dentist...ive heard too many bad things)...They put me out with a couple drugs and ohh did I feel good...they kept asking me if I felt anything (I should have been and I was) but I said no...so they kept feeding me more till I passed out...When I awoke it was awesome...I tried and tried to stay awake cuz it was like being stonned except 10 times better...I then was prescribed oxycodone and didnt have to worry...They hurt for around three days and then stopped and just my jaw was sore...Plan on eating shakes and soup for a while...and rent ALOT of movies...because you wont want to move...I watched abunch of movies and I hardly remember them...but damn was it fun...especially when one of those "Color my World" commercials came on (M & M)...the colors were amazing...I would do it again...and I may have too

I'm 30 and I havent had mine pulled yet. The last visit to a dentist was to remove an old double tooth that had finally givenup trying to be the dominant one and craked, he then sec me up for x rays and said I had wisdom teeth beneth the gum line that he wanted to remove (I remember they tried to poke out once or twice about 5 years ago but they just stopped moving and things went back to normal) I was supposed to set up an appointment with the surgeon for a consultation but after the tooth extration and the cleaning a week later and x rays the week after that I really had no desire to go back.

I'm kinda glad I dont have a job so now I can say I cant afford the proceddure if he calls wondering where I am. I have no pain in my mouth and I like to keep it that way.

My brother just got his pulled today. My mom got him painkillers and stuff just in case. It apparantly depennds on how their in. Like for some people the teeth are easy to pull but for some they need to dig into the bone to get them out.

That's what he told me but if they arnt doing anything why would I need to have them removed?

I have a particularly wicked bone structure in my lower jaw, the dr said it was evidence that I form bone kinda fast so at this point it's too late to do anything about then that wouldnt require some major surgery on my mouth but if I dont have to I'm not gonna.

I had mine done in '90. 4 of them, all impacted.
I was sore for a couple of days, living on popsicles.
Word to the wise, if they give you Percocet, RATION it! A half of one and a couple of beers is a great way to waste an evening.

The big thing is infection. Make sure you take the antibiotics religiously, and if you're a smoker, use the patch for about a week.

It wasn't too bad, a bit sore afterwords, my Oral Surgeon used laughing gas (on me) it didn't make me laugh, but I remember getting really paranoid.. "Why are all these people looking at me, what do they want? whats that noise I keep hearing" Weird stuff, didn't feel a thing nor care at all what they were doing.

I realize that this is a pretty old topic, but I am getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth out tomorrow (two on the bottom are impacted) and my coworker's wife is also getting all of hers taken out soon, so there maybe some other newbies who are interested. We are both around 30. An oral surgeon is doing mine, and I will be knocked out (which is a good thing given that I am very skittish around dentists due to some bad experiences when I was younger). I was put on antibiotics for about a week when I came in with a toothache, but that was a couple of weeks ago. I was told not to eat or drink anything from midnight tonight until the appointment (3 pm) tomorrow, and that is pretty much it. I rented super size me to get my mind off of eating in the meanwhile...

Anyway, I hope that it won't be too painful because I am older, but we will see.

The only thing that bugged me about my teeth being pulled was the blood. I just swallowedtoo much of it, and while I didn't opuke, it did make me quesy for a day or so.

I still have a baby Tooth though. One of my incisors. It'll probably fall out in a decade or so and I'll have to get an implant or bridge or something.

Anyone know how much it cost to get all wisdom teeth pulled? How many wisdom teeth are there? I think I'm growing the last one of my wisdom teeth. I don't want to pull them out partly to see if I can take the pain (it was really painful having wisdom teeth growing) and partly to save some money for being a cheapass. Are there any use for the wisdom teeth?

I dont know how much it would cost but insurance usually covers that. But people usually have 4 wisdom teeth, but I do know one person that had 6 and had to get all of them pulled on the same day.

I didn't read any other posts except for the first one, so if this has been suggested please dis-regard.
I had all 4 of mine taken out at the same time & never had any pain afterwards. I never took any painkillers, etc...My suggestion, take a ton of vitamin C before you go in. You have a month to do so, so you might as well get going ASAP. Good luck.

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled the last week of July this year. I hated post-op so much. Before the surgery though, the Valium was good as hell lol. Anways the IV knocked me out the whole time so I didnt feel a thing. But im telling you its after the surgery thats the worst. Like someone mentioned earlier, use cold packs like crazy, then switch to hot packs during the second day. Also make sure you bite down on your gauze or whatever youre using to collect the blood with great pressure or else itll bleed so much. I didn't bite on my gauze at all so it kept bleeding. When I woke up the 1st night after the sugery my shirt was soaked in blood. Not pretty.

Insurance should cover it i think it is around $2000. If ur insurance won't cover it or something check around at dental schools u can usually get them pulled really cheap there

For an oral surgeon to do this: about $330 per tooth for the extraction plus another $350 (?) for the anasthesia. I was conscious during the procedure, but did have laughing gas and an IV sedative (plus IV novocaine). Insurance is definately a good thing, although I exceeded my maximum allowance for this year ($1000) in one visit and did have to pay some money out of pocket. I just got mine pulled yesterday. I do not have any pain at all from the two non-impacted teeth which were on my upper jaw, however the two impacted teeth on the bottom jaw were a different story. Because I waited to have this done until I was older (28), the nerves in my jaw were really close to the tip of the roots for the bottom teeth. It was more difficult for the surgeon to remove the teeth and he said that I will be swollen for a couple of weeks afterwards. I was given penicillin afterwards and a narcotic/acetominophen painkiller. The painkiller just knocks you out, so you can't drive while taking it.

I regret not doing this earlier since I'm sure that my lower jaw would hurt alot less if the surgeon could have avoided hitting the nerves. I am skittish around dentists (although hopefully am over this after yesterday's experience) and put it off until I got a toothache and a dentist told me that this had to be done.

Thanks to all for the advice. I did have some problems with bleeding, although not as bad as you. I had the surgery late in the day, so I used the gauze for a few hours then took it out when I went to bed. I definately swallowed some blood and felt a little nauseous afterwards.

The bleeding was mostly gone by this morning, and I was feeling dizzy from not having anything to eat or drink since dinner on tuesday. I have been sticking to things like ice cream, jello, etc. for now.

I got mine taken out last year when I was 19 during the middle of my school year (October). I was knocked out but woke up during the procedure.

If you don't swell up, it's not bad at all. I only swelled up on the top left (I had all four taken out at the same time).

So, the one side really really hurt, but you'll live through it. My bf really really whined when his were taken out, but I ate fritos the next day (I was hungry). I had them taken out on a Friday and I was back to school Monday BTW.

Some people naturally do not have wisdom teeth (my brother included). I did though and specifically went to the dentist to get X-rays because my jaw was hurting and one wisdom tooth was poking through (then receded and poked through again).

Well, my dentist is a moron and never called about the X-rays. He thought that I didn't need them taken out. Hello? They were coming through sideways. Needless to say, I had them taken out by an oral surgeon. I'm glad I did it. I used to have horrible neck cramps and now I don't get them anymore.

When in doubt, just get those things taken out. They cause more trouble then it's worth having them in.
