Just as the topic says.
A guy I work with (well, he comes in to take over when my shift is over) told me tonight that he got his hands on a launch 360 a few weeks back. It's apparently red-lighting and he's already dealt with the M$ runaround bullshit. He then offered it to me for what he bought it for... $50.
I'm not sure of the flashing patterns, so I can't tell where the problem lies, but that brings me to the question, which is dumb, but I'd still like some input... Should I drop the $50 on it?

Sure.. you could always sell it for parts for more.. or pay the $140 fee and get it repaired for a total of $190.. 3 red lights is a hardware problem. If it's four lights flashing, it means the audio/video is unplugged

if you buy it,don't they have a warranty that MS added?or did this happen early 2006?

The extended warranty on launch systems expired. Whether or not it is still covered depends on the build date. If it was a launch system like he claims, MS won't cover it.

u could always go sell it to gamestop for like $75 cash or like 110 credit
(systems in working order are around like $185 store credit price, figure take off like 80-90 for refurbing price)

Picked it up today. The flashing codes are 0020, unknown problem. Go figure. Now what to do with it...? Ebay it, trade it to GS, or....?
Controller, AV cable and power brick are good though.
EDIT: I gave MS a call and talked to a guy who was so Canadian, I almost couldn't understand him. Try as I might, they won't cover it and told me it'll be 139.9x. Blah...

You can sell the power brick alone...for like close to 100 bucks.

190 for a XBOX 360 is a gread deal and then the 50 dollar two year extended warranty makes it 240, still a great deal

Still a good price with the repairs. Did it have a hard drive?

Yeah, this guy made every Canadian I know sound 'normal' (local dialect). I'm not exaggerating either. It's almost like talking to someone from the bayou.
And this was a core system. All it had were the console, cables, and wired controller.

Hell, I think that's a great deal.
Have them repair it, and you have one cheap Xbox 360.
